Romney speech falls flat in Detroit

Mitt Romney spoke to several empty seats Friday in Detroit, in a speech that offered Democrats more fodder for their attacks and failed to deliver the major economic address his campaign promised.

Television cameras showed rows of empty chairs as Romney rehashed many of the policies and quips he'd used in previous speeches, made a few jokes that appeared to fall flat with the audience and said that his wife, Ann, drives "a couple of Cadillacs," which will likely give Democrats more ammunition for their depiction of him as rich and out of touch.

The former Massachusetts governor also repeated a line that has been the butt of jokes by late-night comedians — that Michigan has good-sized trees.

“This feels good, being back in Michigan,” he said. “The trees are the right height. The streets are just right.”The former Massachusetts governor also repeated a line that has been the butt of jokes by late-night comedians — that Michigan has good-sized trees.

What’s that? Some 200 people in a stadium? LOL

What a pathetic waste of money and the worst optics.

I got no problem with Rick being a signature dork. he has the right ideas, just not the pitchman he should be.

Needs to be advised by the Shamwow guy.

The perpetually outraged islamic filth were undoubtedly too busy celebrating the death of two American warriors and the desecration of British WWII War Graves in the wake of the burning of the trash known as the unholy koran. No time for inconsequental things like Obamney.

“Several empty seats” was actually hundreds of empty seats if you saw the video. And no one applauded. One wonders if those attending were paid by Willard’s PAC.

The trees without a single leaf are just right for him. He must love pot holes cause that is michigans motto...We have more pot holes than any other state...2 other mottos “We have 2 seasons, winter and road under construction” Or We have 4 seasons, June, July, August and Winter....I would be amazed if he took this state in the primary.....Detroit won’t vote for him, nor will Flint and the rest of the state thinks he’s stupid and stuck on it...

Well no Newt. The dynamic duo, Mitt and his other brother Mitt, have big plans to defeat Santorum first and then get Randie in as Veep.

Problem is that most dolts in this country won’t figure out the dastardly scheme and will think it’s nice that El Mitt gave one of his contenders son’s a job.
All in the name of peace and love.
Oh wait,. Romnuts will throw Rue and his son under the bus the minute the nomination is secure. I forgot that we are dealing with the liar from Massachusetts.
These rats disgust me. If I have to look at Ron Paul’s smirk for one more minute..much less listen to what comes out of his crazy lipless mouth.

It is astounding that the Pacifist brands another candidate a “fake” at a debate without being called out on it by one member of the MSM.

"....the worst optics."

You nailed it, Dome.

Effective Campaigning 101 informs even the dorkiest of dorks that you always book a speech venue with slightly smaller body count capacity than you expect to be filled.

If the bodies hang from the rafters, spill out into the lobby or out to the sidewalk or street, so much the better for effect.

What an "optic" blunder by Romney's staff in this day of instant transmission and publication of photographs.

See you on Tuesday, Mitt. Hopefully giving a concession speech after I vote for Rick Santorum.

Bring friends.

A good friend of mine is a political consultant and Santorum supporter, although does not work for him. I showed him the picture and he was just dumbfounded. He couldn’t believe it.

He thinks this was long planned in advanced as a “grand finale” rally for Romney before he knew he was in trouble here. It’s the only thing that would make any sense whatsoever.

This could have been done in adjustable room at Cobo Hall or the Rock Financial Place in Novi. Why a football stadium in a city that votes 3% Republican, that holds more population that all of the Grosse Pointes combined? Palin got 15,000 at Sterling Heights. Mitt was trying to fill a place that holds over 65,000. That’s not going to happen.
