Best Picture: The Artist, The Descendants, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, The Help, Hugo, Midnight in Paris, Moneyball, The Tree of Life, War Horse.

The Artist has for the most part swept all of the awards for Best Picture, and it doesn’t look like the Oscar will be an exception...

Director: Michel Hazanavicius The Artist, Alexander Payne The Descendants, Martin Scorsese Hugo, Woody Allen Midnight in Paris, Terrence Malick The Tree of Life.

Once again this looks like another award for The Artist with Hazanavicius being the favorite,...

Actor in a Leading Role: Demian Bichir A Better Life, George Clooney The Descendants, Jean Dujardin The Artist, Gary Oldman Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Brad Pitt Moneyball.

Clooney owns any room he walks into and he will own this award...

Actress in a Leading Role: Glenn Close Albert Nobbs, Viola Davis The Help, Rooney Mara The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Meryl Streep The Iron Lady, Michelle Williams My Week With Marilyn.

You hate to refer to ladies as horses, but this is a two horse race between Davis and Streep. Streep won the Golden Globe, Davis won pretty much everything else. Rolling Stone says Streep is the favorite. Entertainment Weekly says it’s Davis. Put your money on Davis to take home the golden statue.

Actor in a Supporting Role: Kenneth Branagh My Week With Marilyn, Jonah Hill Moneyball, Nick Nolte The Warrior, Christopher Plummer Beginners, Max von Sydow Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.

Plummer looks to be a slam dunk here with the only possible upset coming from von Sydow...

Actress in a Supporting Role: Berenice Bejo The Artist, Jessica Chastain The Help, Melissa McCarthy Bridesmaids, Janet McTeer Albert Nobbs, Octavia Spencer The Help.

Take your mortgage, your latest paycheck and your child’s college fund and put it on Spencer...

I predict Obama will be hailed as a God and Sarah Palin bashed again.

A little poem I wrote in honor of the Oscars.

“Filthy Gorgeous”

Camera candy nose
Pyroclastic pose
Beverly Hills publicity
Her kitty’s named felicity

Do the Bentley boogie down
In that shaved Versace gown
Vesuvius Christmas wreath
Viral presents underneath

Walk that red carpet ruse
Marrying mortgaged shoes
Spaghetti string saunter
Sauced communists want her

Champagne celebrity schmooze
Collecting her psychic’s dues
Visions of pin-up hair
Her cleavage loves a dare

Bedroom studded glasses
Nonprescription asses
Paparazzi puckered lips
Pillow tops of Botox tips

She seduces colorblind nations
Undressing orphaned obligations
Designer hip dysplasia
High heel knockoffs in Asia

Behold the drama queen
A feudal minx of screen
Begging the homeless to dream
Because Oscar makes her scream

It’s hard for me to get excited about the Oscars. Yes there could be Sarah Palin bashing.

I never understand why so many Oscar nominated movies are not big blockbuster hits. They seem to nominate movies which few people have seen. Why tune in to watch to see who won an award for some movie you don’t know anything about?

The only movie I’ve seen was “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy”.

I thought Gary Oldman did a fantastic job. I was glad to see he was nominated for Best Actor.

Please no Meryl. Heard they left out all the greatest Thatcher moments and focused on her dementia instead. Sad. They got all the old people to cough up do Larson the theater, including my parents. I’m mad.

Viola Davis is gorgeous with a big personality. She was wonderful in the shell as modest, self-effacing Abilene. She did the role justice. Hope she gets it.

Cough up money to go to the theater is what I tried to say.

I saw “The Artist” a couple of weeks ago. While I enjoyed it very much, the plot was predictable (which actually was part of its charm, but still). Having a hard time with it getting “Best Picture.” I’m thinking “Hugo” or “The Descendants” for BP.

One prediction and one prediction only: Christopher Plummer will win Best Supporting Actor. An old distinguished professional who plays an old family man who comes out as gay in his last days. He’s a shoe in! Usually it’s easy to pick Best Actress: take the prettiest one (e.g. Charlize Theron, Halle Berry) who played ‘ugly’ and as a bonus, a sexual deviant. Don’t see anyone who fits those criteria this year.

How long into the broadcast before Billy Crystal takes a shot at Gingrich, Santorum, Romney, or all three? Ten minutes tops! Sarah too of course.

Amen, bro - I’d just as well handicap a circle jerk (which for all practical purposes is all the Oscar show has become).

She’s probably going to win it, thought I agree with you completely. People should recognize that even though Meryl Streep is an amazing actress, she doesn’t automatically deserve to win because she was in a movie this year. Viola Davis was great and this was only her first leading role. I hope she gets it, either here or Michelle Willams. Even though “My Week with Marilyn” wasn’t great, Williams pulled off her role well, despite not resembling her in any way. I think Streep is going to take it, but I hope people recognize that there are other talented women in Hollywood.

Here’s what would happen if you crossed “My Week with Marilyn” and Weekend at Bernie’s”:

Because 99.99% of blockbusters are moronic crap aimed at hyperactive 12 year old boys.

Some Oscar films at least try to be films that people over 16 with a brain can enjoy.
