Geithner: 'Privilege of Being an American' Is Why Rich Need Higher Taxes
Weekly Standard ^ | 11:00 AM, Feb 24, 2012 | By DANIEL HALPER

"That’s the kind of balance you need," said Geithner. "Why is that the case? Because if you don't try to generate more revenues through tax reform, if you don't ask, you know, the most fortunate Americans to bear a slightly larger burden of the privilege of being an American, then you have to -- the only way to achieve fiscal sustainability is through unacceptably deep cuts in benefits for middle class seniors, or unacceptably deep cuts in national security."

Is there enough room in Gitmo for the liars, cheats, thieves, and traitors in this Regime (top to bottom) so they can rot together forever?

This tax cheating, two-faced, hypocritical, weaselly scumbag (did I leave anything out?) doesn't
even pay his taxes at the current levels and now he expects us to believe he wants to pay more!

What is lost on this generation of dumbed-down young Americans is that at least two expressions have been converted by the Marxists in our land.

REPUBLIC has been converted to DEMOCRACY.

GOD-GIVEN RIGHTS has been converted to GOVERNMENT-GRANTED PRIVILEGES.

We have listened for the last forty years to the decline of the use of the word "republic" in political speeches, as a description of our country, and the elevation of the word "democracy," even by members of the Republican Party.

This is one very glaring indication of the blurring of lines between the two concepts as well as between the two parties. We are in a downward spiral of

democrat---

moderate republican---

liberal democrat---

more liberalizing republican---

more liberal democrat---

even less definitive republican---

Marxist-leaning democrat---

compromising-to-get-along republican---

Marxist Democrat---

unable-to-utter-the-word "Marxist" republican---

. . . and this is where we are now.

.....Say something noble like this, in practice cheat on your taxes....

Or supposedly donate your used skid-marked underwear and claim a deduction for charity on your income taxes.

"the only way to achieve fiscal sustainability is through unacceptably deep cuts in benefits for middle class seniors, or unacceptably deep cuts in national security."

So benefits to middle class seniors and the military are the only places we can make meaningful cuts? What BS! These clowns can really shovel it, can't they?

I expect a big campaign by the gov. to solicit extra billions from the Hollyweird crowd. I’m sure they’ll be happy to cough up the extra dough by selling a few of their mansions or fleets of cars and planes. An odd bauble or two. You know, the odd 100,000 Cartier necklace, or Rolex watch. Stay off coke for a few weeks. Heck, they can give up coke for Lent. The latter would accomplish two things: give the gov. extra money to waste, and cause a short financial depression for the Mexican cartels.

What if for the first time in your life you’re ashamed to be American, you feel betrayed by your fellow countrymen? What if you’re really disappointed in the 53% of voters who elected someone to uphold and defend the Constitution (the article that makes this the UNITED States of America) and that said person considers said Constitution a ‘charter of negative liberties’? Do you still have to work to support such a nation? I think not.

50p tax rate ‘failing to boost revenues’
The amount of income tax paid fell sharply last month in the first formal indication that the new 50p higher rate is not raising the expected amount of revenue.

“It should be known that at the beginning of a dynasty, taxation yields a large revenue from small assessments. At the end of the dynasty, taxation yields a small revenue from large assessments.

Zimbabwe was then Rhodesia, known for its racism.

But after Mugabe took over it became a racist free society where brotherhood, fairness and love for one's fellow man prevail.

It is now a multi-racial paradise on earth where white and black live in harmony and seldom is heard a discouraging word and the skies are not cloudy all day

the privilege of being an American

Does it occur to this harebrain that the "privilege" is product of America's CITIZENS, not its government? Why should the producers of that privilege have to lease it from a group that contributes nothing toward it? Government works for US, NOT VICE VERSA!!!

What he is saying is “Work hard and get rich so the Government can take it away from you”.

If it is such a privilege to pay higher taxes why didn’t Geitner pay his. Why didn’t Charlie Rangel pay his, why does Warren Buffet scream he needs top pay more while his checkbook is lying right in front of him.

The truth is ,whatever taxes are passed the super rich will find a way around them and if we paid a Billion dollars too much in taxes and it was left over it would not go to pay back the debt, these a-wipes would piss it away on something that would get them re-elected.

If it’s such a “privilege”, why is it so hard for the rich to give up that privilege and not have to pay taxes at all when they emigrate? Unless Tim thinks that being a slave to the US Government is a privilege...

Of course it is not a privilege to be an American. Leftist believe the government ‘gives’ us rights. This is of course wrong. The Declaration of Independence get it right we are endowed by our Creator with certain INALIENABLE rights. The left hates that idea. Hence the campaign to banish the Creator from the public square.

All humans should have those rights without it being a privilege.

"The Privilege of Being American"

the number of people renouncing their american citizenship to become citizens of other countries tripled after obamas first year in office

in his second year it doubled again

in the past any us citizen that wanted to renounce his citizenship could go to any us consular office and it required filling out a form

now they ask for a fee of several thousand dollars and levy an 'expatriation tax' before you can legally sever your ties to the us...

WTF. I am reminded of how the Jews and other merchants in Antwerp reacted to Spanish government. Because the Hollanders were in Rebellion against their Spanish overlord, these merchants moved their gold and businesses to Amsterdam. turning it from a fishing village to a major emporium.

So it is a privelege to just “BE” now, but it is a “right” to have others pay for healthcare?

Citizenship is not a privilege. It is a right by birth.
Governing is a privilege, and if in violation of the rules may be revoked by any means necessary.

Right. More stupid logic by the Libs. The Americans not paying taxes not only have the privilege of being a citizen, but they have the added privilege of receiving re-distributed income and benefits from those that actually do pay income tax. This is just an old big ‘pay-to-play’ scheme concocted by Democrats that solidifies their lower income and welfare voter block. I suppose that if treats can help train a dog, they can be equally effective for your average Democrat voter.
There are too many drones that will gladly sell out their liberty for the price of a condom.

This will continue to increase if upper income seniors are substantially ‘means tested’ out of social security. The reduction of Medicare benefits and rationing will also propel a wave of wealthy seniors into foreign enclaves with good private healthcare.
Perhaps this explains why House Hunters international has become so popular.
