Rick has gone from a ten point lead in MI to a 3-6 point deficit in a little over a week, and in that same time span has gone from essentially a tie in Arizona to 10-15 points behind Romney today. His national lead has evaporated completely.
Can anyone withstand the bottomless pockets of Mitt Romney?

Ouch is right. Romney is getting the attention now. UGH! Well as long as Santorum continues to lead and wins Michigan we are safe and our country will prosper. If Santorum does not win Michigan we could be in deep trouble. Santorum is our only hope! I think he will pull this out. American needs you Rick! Work hard the next three days!!!
Ouch. Little Rickie is collapsing before our eyes. How sweet. Whatever toy God gives to Little Rickie, he is taking it back.
Fixed it...
RCP Average 2/8 - 2/24 33.1 28.9 14.6 12.4
Santorum +4.2 Woo hoo!
Hang at the top, Rick! Beat Willard the Lib! The Conservative reinforcements are coming!
I wish the mods would make it clear what is appropriate for breaking news.
I usually post polls like this within minutes of them coming out, but the other day some random “admin moderator” took all the latest polls I had posted in breaking out and said
“Would you please quit posting everything to Breaking News?”
I wish it was clear what exactly is appropriate to post in breaking news
Polls are like arseholes! Everybody (seemingly) has one! We have one in the WH as I type...
I saw that the other day. Until they explain that then it will always be hit or miss. You are doing fine.
>>> Can anyone withstand the bottomless pockets of Mitt Romney?
I’m afraid there is one... Barack Obama.
Gallup rolling poll lags but it shows the trend. It’s only going to get worse for Santorum.
It’s a “fine art” posting in Breaking News and to have it stay; always use it sparingly. ...All I’m going to say. :^)
The Reverend Rick’s extremely bad performance in the last debate is now starting to show, as well as the steady media attention on the record and history of a candidate who has had little to none over the last 10 months.
Hannity threw softballs to Santorum to help Rick get off the social issues and back on economic issues where the voters are. Santorum went out of his way to continue digging himself a deeper hole on the social issues.
Santorum does not realize that it isn’t a question of whether we agree with him on social issues. It is a question of priorities.
Obama has his hand in my pocket to grab my money, not ...
Given that Romney is one the benefiting, maybe you could explain why that makes you so happy.
By all means, encourage him to keep talking about himself like he does. The more he does it, the faster we can get a real master like Newt in office.
Really, that’s good. Considering the average debate, most of the MSM and the Republican establishment working against him, Santorum is showing quite a bit of resilience. The WSJ had two hit piece editorials on him yesterday, and Fox carries quite a bit of water for Romney. Santorum was never a star debater. He holds his own, but I expected a major bump down for him after the debate. So far Romney hasn’t knocked him out, though. What’s critical for Romney is getting the “inevitable” mantel again. The media and the Republican establishment will be doing their best to create that meme again.
Rick gaining in Arizona? Wow!
American Research Group, Inc.

Likely Republican
Primary Voters Feb 23-24
2012

Mitt Romney leads in the Arizona Republican presidential primary with 39%. Romney is followed by Rick Santorum with 35%, Newt Gingrich with 11%, and Ron Paul with 9%.
In a similar survey conducted February 13-14, 2012, Romney was leading with 38%, followed by Santorum with 31%, Gingrich with 15%, and Paul with 11%. Support for Santorum has increased 4 percentage points since the last survey and support for Romney has increased 1 percentage point.

WOW! Santorum leads Romney 41% to 29% among likely Republican primary voters saying they will vote on February 28.
Santorum leads with 44% among likely Republican primary voters saying they are supporters of the Tea Party, followed by Romney with 34%, Gingrich with 18%, and Paul with 1%. Among likely primary voters saying they are not supporters of the Tea Party or are undecided about the Tea Party, Romney leads with 44%, followed by Santorum with 25%, Paul with 18%, and Gingrich with 3%.

Well, it was fun while it lasted. Nothing like having your enemy do your dirty work for you before the general election. Much can be said about vetting the candidates, but this has been particularly brutal...and a boon to Obama.
Are you just a newbie, or a newbie for Willard?
Agree. Why the glee over the supposed Santorum collapse? The person gaining is Romney.
I would get it if Rick’s decrease in numbers were coupled with an increase in Newt’s numbers, but they’re not.
It’s gonna take a miracle for Newt to win now.
In the meantime, I wish people would realize that a Santorum collapse only helps Romney and his little dwarf friend Ron Paul.
Mitt Romney has won, or will win, the following states:
New Hampshire
Florida
Nevada
Arizona
California
Virginia
Massachussetts
Rhode Island
Connecticut
New York
Vermont
New Jersey
Maine(?)
Your sentiments indicate that you'd like to give Michigan to Romney as well. Which just about wraps it up for Romney.
Your misplaced, dripping hatred for Santorum only contributes to Romney's nomination as the GOP candidate.
The dripping hatred for Santorum is all over this forum. And notice how many of the posts attacking him mention God or “Saint” or some other religious reference.
If this is what FR is becoming, I want no part of it.
It’s starting to look like Santorum is starting to tank, Soon, he will be going in the right direction all across the country, down.
I participated in a teleconference with Newt this morning... it was very enjoyable. Newt will make a great president for our times.
** President Newt Gingrich-”Our beloved republic deserves nothing less.”
Seems odd doesn’t it that conservatives here are so excited and happy with a poll that shows one conservative dropping 2 points, another conservative moving nowhere, and Romney gaining 3 points?
You are right about Santorum in the sense at least I had no idea of his spending record in congress. The more I learn, less I like him and quickly moving back to Newt.
But there is one bit of good news in the poll for conservatives:
TRIALHEAT CHANGE
Obama 49% -2
Santorum 48%
One of our conservatives at least is now polling even with Obama again. So there's still a chance conservatives can win in November. Maybe that is why you seem so happy about this poll -- it can't be that you are excited to see Gingrich stuck in 3rd place while Romney rises back toward first.
Every news story is “new” when it first comes out. If you look at what has historically appeared on “breaking news”, it’s been things that were significant events, like a nuclear plant breaking, or a big shooting, or a major announcement by a candidate.
Look, just because people don’t like Santorum and don’t want him to be their president, doesn’t mean they “hate” the man.
** President Newt Gingrich-”Our beloved republic deserves nothing less.”
I know the difference between hatred and disagreement, thanks. The religious nature of the attacks on Santorum are a dead giveaway.
But isn’t that poll before the miracle of the debate, after which all polls will show Newt at 110%, and Romney and Santorum in negative numbers, as the other half of the country registers to vote just so they too can pick Newt Gingrich, the Great.
Actually, it’s a gift to romney. All polls show Ricks votes won’t go to Newt, but to Romney. Mayber your Paul supporters, which means your a romney supporter, so this is ok with you?
We are heading for a lost. The media keeps up the trickery;embedding in people’s minds that Newt cannot win etc. though, knowing he could beat Obama and take on his radical agenda. Build up Rick/ move us away from the strongest person. Once, Rick is out of the way, full steam ahead. If Newt is not the candidate, one can assume, the worse. People are being played about Newt. Newt has the experience. He tells the truth about Obama. The others try to stand up/but they are not at Obama’s level to even show the difference of theology. Even Romney boards are saying they need to watch for a comeback from Newt. Rush has picked the wrong guy though he is helping Romney-I know people don’t see that. The media is winning and playing this like a fine instrument. We have split the vote to stop Mitt, never uniting after Perry dropped out. The soc cons cannot win by themselves. I pray Newt makes it/if not, we are screwed to have a fight with the radicals/I am sick of playing safe with a weak person or a weaker person. It is so dumb that Americans are this uninformed and just seem to want go along without fighting like hell..sorry..I just want to battle with the radicals/tired of them. I can see Newt turning around things. I hope convention gives us Newt or another fighter-but we know who that is..only 2 people I can think of who are reformers (Sarah and Newt, the real kind) Is there anyone else? Paul, demint, Christie, Jeb, Get real. Newt and Palin, get this done.. This time, she would have the other running mate defending her vs. McCain keeping Palin in her place/saying what she could or could not say. The media put her in hell-she may not want to relive it due to her love of family.
That’s because I have a theory that many of these so called freepers that are disparaging Christianity in their references to Rick Santorum are really MITTbots who instead of promoting him (that would get the the easy ZOT, are instead taking cues from their master and carpet bombing him on FR and forums like this)..
I agree. I have to keep reminding myself it's Newt's supporters that are saying these things, not Newt himself. Newt's my second choice, but his supporters have almost turned me against him. They remind me of the Palin bashers who couldn't resist the temptation to criticize her every move.
Rising slowly, but rising: Newt.
????????
So, with Michigan, Romney will get 14 states (if you include Maine), and that seals the deal? There aren't 57 sates, but there are a lot more than 27.......
If you insist on mocking God, take it to the Democrat Underground. They will love you for it.
Believe what you want. I refer to him as Saint Ricky and/or a televangelist, but I certainly don’t hate him.
I see Santorum as a man with certain qualities, but not as a man I want leading this country and not a man that can turn this country around, quickly and intelligently.
Frankly, he has shown me reasons not to trust him. His performance in the last debate was horrible.
It is possible that he could win the nomination, although I doubt it, but I do not believe he has any chance of beating Obama.
** President Newt Gingrich-”Our beloved republic deserves nothing less.”
I believe what I see.
It isn't one state = one delegate. The more populous states (CA, NY, FL, MA, NJ, VA) have more delegates
It works out to about 35-40% of the GOP delegates are going to go to Romney from these 14 states. Romney just needs to do OK, not necessarily win, in some of the states that allow delegates to be apportioned in line with the number of votes, such as Michigan.
Well enough... I believe in what I see in your Ricky and he will not be getting my vote.
Have a nice day......
** President Newt Gingrich-”Our beloved republic deserves nothing less.”
...is beating your Newtster like a drum on a shoestring budget. And the debates are over, which means your Newtster is dead in the water.
Take care!
Breaking news is when something out of the ordinary is taking place. Polls are part of the political season.
I do not think you will be around here long newbie. I doubt that you are a spokes person for God.
” I try to remember that when I post, but don’t always succeed.”
Well, that’s true of a lot of Newt supporters too, myself included.
We don’t hate Rick, we just don’t think he’s up to the task anywhere near as well as Newt is.
