Posted on 02/25/2012 6:57:31 PM PST by nuconvert
Sen. Joe Lieberman is leading a congressional move to push U.S. policy toward a more belligerent stance against Iran by urging President Obama to take action to "prevent the Iranian government from acquiring a nuclear weapons capability."
The key policy change would shift the U.S. objective from preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons to that of preventing Iran from having the "capability" to make the weapons.
The resolution is sponsored by Lieberman, Sens. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., and Bob Casey, D-Pa., and signed onto by Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., and 28 other senators.

Liebermann needs to press a resolution refusing any shoot down order directed at Israeli planes by our Persian Gulf task force. (I believe we have a carrier group in the Gulf or nearby.)
I fear a covert message in JCS Chairman Dempsey’s statement that Israel hasn’t decided to strike Iran.
Bah, humbug. Iran will negotiate and negotiate and negotiate, until it has the bomb.
Iran will launch its nukes WHILE IT IS “NEGOTIATIATING”
to the cheers of the Mullahs and Obama and the DNC.
Not if they detonate in NYC or DC. Then Obama and the DNC will be very upset, because of what that might do to the elections in the next cycle.
“Not if they detonate in NYC or DC. Then Obama and the DNC will be very upset, because of what that might do to the elections in the next cycle.”
If that happened, Buckwheat and the DNC will all be shopping for new underwear after they crapped their pants while hiding under desks. God help us if we ever get into a real fight.
And the Iranians are moving the centrifuges to the holycrap city Qom. It's like bombing Mecca - not that I have a problem with that either personally, but if you thought the sandmonkey's were upset over a few burnt science fiction korans, wait until we start bombing Qom.
Might be a good time to admit that islam is the problem and bomb them all to hell.
On February 5, 2012, President Obama invoked the NDAA, which authorizes the use of military force, and issues an executive order declaring the threat of Iran a National Emergency.
To expand your point.......
“On February 5, 2012, President Obama invoked the NDAA, which authorizes the use of military force, and issues an executive order declaring the threat of Iran a National Emergency. The video below shows this issuance of President Obama executive order which declares Irans threat to cut off oil supplies a national emergency.
The executive order directs all government agencies to respond immediately to the threat. It further invokes the authority of the 2012 NDAA (National Defense Authorization Act) which gives the President the power to launch military action against any nation without the approval of Congress. Ironically, the State of Emergency order also accuses the Iranian central bank of deceptive banking practices.”
Let’s not forget all the angry chimp noises they’ll make at anyone who does take the lead, right after they’ve done something effective. They did it to Bush. They’ll do it to Santorum or Gingrich, or even Romney.
I’m not convinced Obama won’t shoot down israeli jets instead of fight iran
Of course it will be an “accident” once again proving that “stupid is as stupid does!”
I agree Vern. I have no doubt that Obama would shoot down Israeli jets and on purpose prevent their reaching Iran.
Obama stands between Israel and Iran with the capacity to track and intercept an Israeli attack.
Who do I trust?
It is NOT Obama who has has attacked Israel in every other way possible.
“Liebermann needs to press a resolution refusing any shoot down order directed at Israeli planes by our Persian Gulf task force. (I believe we have a carrier group in the Gulf or nearby.)”
We had a carrier group in the Med on June 8, 1967 and the coward LBJ, McNamara, Rusk made sure it stood down too, when it damn well should have been defending and shooting down the attackers on our own USN ship the USS Liberty. The inaction remains a slap in the face to every USN seaman and to the memory of those 34 KIA and 170 wounded.
As a vet from 1967 I think about this crap every time our gutless leaders involve our US military in the ME. Will they defend our servicemen or does it all depend?
If it was up to me we’d stay out of that entire God forsaken area and let the residents there duke it out, and not one US serviceman would ever die for another country’s cause.
