Voters say Santorum can't beat Obama
The Morning Call ^ | February 26, 2012

Many Pennsylvanians think the former senator's beliefs are too extreme for the presidency.

WASHINGTON — Rick Santorum may be a mystery, a bit of an anomaly, to most American voters, but Pennsylvanians have known him a long time. And six years ago they overwhelmingly chose to sever ties.

Now Santorum has re-emerged as a serious contender in the Republican presidential primary, and Pennsylvania voters have mixed feelings about his return. At best, most find him honest about his beliefs. At worst, half say those beliefs are too extreme for the presidency.

Just 13 percent feel strongly that Santorum could beat President Barack Obama in the general election, compared with 45 percent who feel strongly that he cannot, according to a new Morning Call/Muhlenberg College poll of Pennsylvania voters.

The poll surveyed 625 registered Pennsylvania voters from Feb. 15 to Feb. 21 and has a 4 point margin of error.

One respondent, Mary Ellen Brimmer, 73, of New Holland, Lancaster County, said she's hoping Santorum does not win the nomination. Not because she has any vivid memories of his time as senator or because she doesn't share his views, but because he couldn't win the grand prize.

"I know Obama will just run away with him and I hope Obama will be finished," Brimmer, a Republican, said. "They'll clean up the floor with him. I just don't think he's capable."

It’s not obama we need to beat; anyone can beat obama. It’s the fool people that support him that the candidate needs to beat.

That will all change when they are paying six or seven bucks for a gallon of gasoline and they can’t afford one of Barry’s Government Motors VOLTswagens. What the clowns in the MSM are telling us about their beloved messiah won’t mean squat when you have to see a loan officer before filling your tank.

“I remember he always evoked such strong feelings and I couldn’t remember for the life of me, why,” Rooney said. “The thing that came back to me most vividly, the senator is like the kid who puts his thumbs in his ears and calls you names and then runs into his house.”

When Pennsylvanians were asked to describe Santorum in one word, the responses were equally negative, positive and neutral. They praised him with terms like “honest” and “decent” and “real.” The more hostile epithets included “arrogant,” “crazy” and “extreme.” One woman called him, “the devil.”

Ellen Cassidy, 24, from Downington, Chester County, said she hates him.

Plenty of doubts in PA Fish. High negatives for Santo in his old state. Maybe it’s time to switch to Newt.

I read earlier today that as late as October of 1980, President Jimmy Carter was polling ahead of Gov. Ronald Reagan.

We all know how that turned out, don’t we.

There are 8 months and some odd days left until the election this November.

Anything could, and probably will, happen.

That's because those many are D-E-M-O-C-R-A-T-S.

Santorum might still not get elected in Pennsylvania if their taker/maker ratio is greater than 1.0. But that doesn't mean he can't get elected at the NATIONAL level.

Even better if Newt switches to Santorum before being forced to.

If you want to tie your wagon to a S#!tty poll, Muhlenberg/Morning Snooze is it. That is my home town paper and it is a three page circular now and the polls they commission always are wildly inaccurate and wrong because it is a Leftist rag looking to sell their unpopular views. That is why their circulation is almost zero. Last real poll I saw had Rick winning the state by 30% and Obummer is wildly unpopular here. We are a shale gas state now and have no mind for the Federales telling us how to conduct our business.

Kudos - to a really good line!

I don’t think that will happen, because Santorum has made it well known he despises Gingrich. He has verbally attacked Gingrich in this race while Gingrich has held his fire.

What think you? Would you support someone who crapped all over you?

For sure, for sure.

We will see polls and editorials DAILY that proclaim Santorum or Gingrich can't beat OBozo, or that ONLY OBomney can beat OBozo.

Please, don't be disheartened by this lamestream BS...cause the OBozo will be beaten - IF he's allowed to run in the end.

Gingrich and Santorum are family friends.

That's what I've heard. Gingrich's kids with Calista go to school with Santorum's.
