Act of Valor Trumps Hollywood’s Asinine Squalor
Townhall.com ^ | February 26, 2012 | Doug Giles

Finally, a 21st century movie that doesn’t portray our military as corrupt, stupid, confused torturers who murder innocent babies.

Act of Valor, which opened this weekend, features active (and anonymous) Navy SEALs in the re-creation of real events that showcase our crème de la crème rescuing our operatives and crushing our enemies in an OMG type of way.

I’ve got two words for the manner in which our boys were depicted in this flick … Sa-lute!

If I were a wannabe enemy of the U.S.A. (foreign or domestic) I’d be crapping my cargo pants (or tunic) after viewing Act of Valor—chiefly because our special forces are some bad mamajambas who have the tools and the tenacity to jack you up.

Yep, be afraid, villains, as our troops are effective ministers of God poised, ready and willing with stealth and style to inflict the wrath of God on those who do evil. I’m talkin’ Romans 13:1-5 style. Look it up if you don’t know what I’m talking about.

Another thing that I truly enjoyed about this film was the unambiguous patriotism of the soldiers and their families. Yep, no whining about their missions from their families or the SEALs who sacrificed their lives and limbs for God and country. It almost felt like I was in America again as I watched this movie. It was weird—but a good weird.

Even though it’s shocking to see our troops displayed in a magnificent manner within this Occuculture that loathes them, it was not a shocker to me; I have had the good fortune to spend time with many of our special ops and other soldiers in hunting camps from Alaska to Texas and have found them just as the movie displayed them: consummate class acts without a hint of the BS Hollyweird has smeared them with over the last decade.

I can’t say enough good things about this movie. In the theater in which my wife and I watched it we spotted several older gents and couples who sat in their seats and silently wept as the credits rolled. It was sacred.

I’m sure all the scabs and the venomous wood lice of the Left are going to crawl out from under the rocks where they dwell and bash this war pic, but that’s alright. Our SEALs and others have afforded you the right to be stupid and bray your insanity by keeping bad guys at bay, both at home and abroad, and thereby giving you the wherewithal to play your silly and ungrateful games against our fair land.

Lastly, parents, take your teenagers to see Act of Valor. Maybe, just maybe, some of the courage, patriotism and dignity depicted in this film will erase the film this crappy culture has slimed your kid with.

God bless America, our warriors who protect her, and those involved with this movie. Amen.

There are some clear scenes of the result of torture (aftermath, not during) which underscore the brutality of the enemy.
They are not throughout the movie, just in a few spots and they are consistent with the story line at that time.
You can see far more brutality, blood and gore in any number of R rated movies with less relevance IMHO.
I would suggest if someone was squeamish (and I don’t knock that) that someone else they trust see the movie and give them a review.
I do suggest that parents see the movie before pre-teens or young teens.
The movie portrays the military in an honest light and I do think it is valuable for teens who have been exposed to Avatar to see this movie.
There is bravery, compassion and humanity in this movie, just like real people are (and of course there are non-actor real people in it, being like themselves).
I will see it again and buy the blu-ray when it comes out.
The movie is 2 and 1/2 hours long and I was surprised when it was at the end. It kept my unwavering interest.

Why? ‘Birth of a Nation’ is a staggeringly important film that everyone should see.

Debbie Schlussel has called it ‘Goebbels style’ anti-semitic propaganda! Amazing.

So is “Triumph of the Will” what matters is the message of the Film, and if its message is Racist or Anti-Semitic, than at least it is well shot Racism and Antisemitism.

I haven’t paid too much attention to ticket receipts in the past but I wanted to look at this movie. The stories I dug up today at 2:00PM on Sunday afternoon says they took $9.1MM in in Friday and for the entire weekend the total is $24.7MM.

Now I can’t say I’m an expert but these numbers don’t add up and also how do the numbers come out at 2 on Sunday afternoon? Friday’s numbers I would have thought would have led to a figure more like $30 plus million.

It’s not just a matter of it being well shot but of it pioneering a medium. It’s where the movies began and people interested in the medium need to see it. D.W. Griffith was a frontier scout of the cinema.

Don't come back with any crap about the acting was bad or the bad guys were not real enough.

Since that's almost word for word what I said in the thread about the movie yesterday, I'm going to assume that's what you are referring to. Can you honestly sit there and say that (looking the actors who played the bad guys up)Calderon, Cespedes, and Cottle turned in anything but sub-B grade performances?

If you like the movie for the message, that's fine, just say so. But please, let's not pretend that it's an artistic achievement because of politics.

I said Friday if you'll sit there and watch Stallone and Chuck Morris in a movie then these SEALS deserve Academy Awards for their performances.

Perhaps that's the difference between us. Outside of Rocky, I never could stand Stallone. Never cared for Chuck either. For that matter I never liked Arnold outside of his sci-fi movies. Segal was the only one I could watch, and that was only when he was showcasing real aikido, or working with Danial Inosanto on bringing real kali to the screen. I guess I'm not a fan of action movies.

Thanks for the tip on “The Thief”

I think you will feel as drawn in on Sophie Scholl: The Final Days, as well. Few movies draw you in like that, and stay with you for many days after.

I guess so, Hitler’s Munich Olympic Speech was the first Radio Broadcast powerful enough to be sent into space.

My husband and I got home a while ago from watching the movie. You know how the audience always talk during movies. In this one, there was total silence from the audience

That is not correct. In the movie, a Jew is not the head of an Islamist terrorist group.

""Act of Valor" should really be called Act of Goebbels for its having a slavic Jew (Christo) as head of a Islamic, fillipino terror group."

See the movie and then come back and apologize to the rest of the posters for your ridiculous comment.

They shot it using six Canon EOS5 digital SLRs...the kind you can buy for under $3 grand at PC Richards.

Looks like I’ll have to put The Thief on my wish list. The DVD or streaming does not seem to be available. I did see the trailer and it does look good.

We saw it yesterday. There was a guy a few seats away from us who stood and saluted at the end of the movie.

I wish they would have put the fallen in a still frame rather than a crawl.

Rarely does a movie engage me the way Acto fo Valor did. I was exhausted at the end. Only a truely great movie can do that. I wouldn’t be against seeing it again.

Everyone should see it. I think Lefties should so that they can see what the real monsters do to women and innocents. But they probably can’t be honest enough to say they were wrong.

Well, here’s your chance to send a message to Hollyweird. Your ticket supports a great pro-military, pro-America, pro-freedom movie. No doubt the Left will be bashing it soon, since it is doing so well. Take a stand for those that take a stand for us.
