Gingrich rails against Obama at CA GOP conv - point-by-point attack on Obama's energy speech
Los Angeles Times ^ | February 26, 2012 | Maria L. La Ganga

...Although most of his address was a point-by-point attack on Obama's recent energy speech in Miami, Gingrich also took the president to task for his response to the inadvertent burning of Korans at a U.S. military base in Afghanistan.

Two American military officers were killed in a heavily secured compound by an unknown assailant Saturday, during nearly a week of angry anti-American protests. On Thursday, Obama had personally apologized for the burning of the holy books.

"I find it very offensive as commander in chief that he is apologizing to the Afghans when in fact he should be demanding an apology from [Afghan President Hamid] Karzai," Gingrich said to much applause.

...Noting that Obama said there "are no silver bullets" for the high price of gasoline in America, Gingrich said "there is a pen. Big difference.

"A presidential pen could today sign approval of the Keystone pipeline," he said. "That's 700,000 barrels a day. A presidential pen could today sign approval to go back to the Gulf of Mexico. That's about 400,000 barrels a day. A presidential pen could today approve areas of Alaska that we know have oil."

In three signatures, Gingrich said, "you would have 2.3 million barrels a day additional energy in the United States. So I would say, we're not looking for silver bullets. We're looking for presidential leadership."

Although many in the audience were still undecided about their presidential choice, his talk of cheap gas resonated with Judy Thompson of Vacaville, a retired associate warden who worked for the state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.....

Good speech. He didn’t “rail”. He didn’t “thunder”. He used facts a humor to take apart Obama’s speech and his policies on energy.

Good point.

The MSM characterizes common sense conservatism as “railing” or “attacking” or “slamming” because they can’t refute the truth.

There are answers to our energy p[roblems, but they are not to try to solve todays problems with an energy that MIGHT become useful in the future.

We are pouring millions into green energy while ignoring the present energy crisis.

All the better to continue the slide of the U.S. and her defenses. Newt lays it out clearly in his 30 minute video.

Here's a couple of notes that I wrote down from Newt's speech that I think are pertinent:

The high price of gas is the deliberate strategy of the left.

February 4, 2009, Obama Energy Secretary said, "somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels of Europe." (9 or 10 dollars a gallon)

“There’s one reason this (the Bakkan formation) was developed. It is on private land and the Obama Administration couldn’t stop it.”

The Obama U.S Attorney in North Dakota filed a lawsuit against the oil companies based on 8 migratory birds. There are 33,000 birds killed each year by wind turbines.

Obama systematically misleads the American people.

A Summary of Obama’s actions on energy policy since January 2009:

• February 4, 2009 – Just months after Obama’s Energy Secretary said, “Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe,” the Regime begins “scrapping leases for oil-shale development” and cancels 77 leases for oil and gas production in Utah.
Gas is $1.91 a gallon.

• March 7, 2009 – ABC News says the White House is “closely
monitoring” the expedited Solyndra loan project even as it was delaying new American energy production that would help make us less dependent on foreign energy.
Gas is $1.94 a gallon.

• June 27, 2009 - Obama urges the Senate to adopt House Democrats’ “cap and trade” national energy tax – the same plan O once admitted would cause electricity rates to “necessarily skyrocket.”
Gas is $2.50 a gallon.

• January 7, 2010 – The Regime announces new bureaucratic hurdles to American energy production that Secretary Salazar admitted “could add delays to the leasing and drilling process.”
Gas is $2.67 a gallon.

• March 31, 2010 – Instead of opening new areas to energy exploration and development, Obama blocks deep-ocean energy production on 60% of America’s Outer Continental Shelf.
Gas is $2.80 a gallon.

•December 1, 2010 – Obama re-imposes and expands the moratorium on offshore energy production.
Gas is $2.86 a gallon.

• January 2, 2011 – TIME
reports that the Obama Regime issued the first in a series of regulations designed to unilaterally impose a national energy tax.
Gas is $3.05 a gallon.

• May 5, 2011 – The Regime issues a formal statement opposing House-passed Restarting American Offshore Leasing Now Act (H.R. 1230), and Putting the Gulf of Mexico Back to Work Act (H.R. 1229) legislation designed to jumpstart American energy production, address rising gas prices, and help create new jobs.
Gas is $3.96 a gallon.

• June 21, 2011 - The Regime opposes the House-passed Jobs & Energy Permitting Act that would unlock an estimated 27 billion barrels of oil and 132 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.
Gas is $3.65 a gallon.

• November 8, 2011 – The Regime releases a plan for a five-year moratorium on offshore energy production, placing “some of the most promising energy resources in the world off-limits,” according to the House Natural Resources Committee.
Gas is $3.42 a gallon.

•January 18, 2012 – Obama rejects the bipartisan Keystone XL pipeline and the more than 20,000 jobs that would come with it.
Gas is $3.39 a gallon.

• February 24, 2012 – Average price of gas: $3.64

The ONLY place the democrats want to drill is the wallets of the American people.

The U.S. is hemorrhaging and the GOP wants a Romney bandaid. It’s unbelievable and we must stop this outrage.

“point-by-point attack” — note LAT bias.

How about “Newt refutes Obama’s false statements” — but of course such title would never be published in the LAT.

Thanks for posting the article and link to Newt’s speech.
