Researchers from the University of East Anglia found that flavonoid-rich foods, like oranges and grapefruit, can help protect against strokes in women. This study was published in the journal, Stroke: Journal of the American Heart Association.

In this study, the researchers followed 69,622 women for 14 years. The researchers monitored the protective nature of flavonoids, an antioxidant found in fruits, vegetables, dark chocolate and red wine. During the study, every four years, the women reported their fruit and vegetable intake.

As a result, the researchers were able to look for relationships between flavonoid intake and the risk of ischemic, hemorrhagic and total stroke in these women. In conclusion, women who consumed high amounts of flavanones found in citrus, were observed to have a 19 percent lower risk of ischemic stroke than women who consumed low amounts of flavanones. In addition, total flavonoid intake did not appear to influence the risk of ischemic stroke risk.

While the study focused specifically on women, I can't imagine why it wouldn't have the same positive effect on men as well.

It is interesting to note that the flavanoids specifically found in citrus had the real impact, the article said that the total flavanoid intake wasn't a factor.

So -- eat your oranges and drink your orange juice. -- To your health!

Grapefruit

Grapefruits reduce bad cholesterol, keeping arteries clean, and lower insulin in the body which helps prevent weight gain. Many diet gurus tout grapefruits as a super diet food for weight loss. These properties are twice as strong in the red and pink varieties as opposed to the white fleshed grapefruit.

Lemons and Limes

These luscious, tangy citrus fruits are the king and queen of all detox fruits. Powerfully antiseptic and antimicrobial, they will destroy putrefactive bacteria in your mouth and intestines while clearing mucous build up. They will support your liver, improve your absorption of minerals, promote weight loss, cleanse your blood, and alleviate indigestion

Since this study comes from the University of East Anglia — the same gaggle of liars and obfuscators that perpetrated the global warming hoax — I wouldn’t trust any of their findings. In fact, citrus probably causes cancer, high blood pressure, and hemorrhoids.
