Clear Channel elevates John Hogan to chairman and CEO

Clear Channel Media and Entertainment, the nation's largest radio operator, has upped John Hogan to chairman and chief executive. The promotion of Hogan, who had been president and CEO, comes as the company continues to try to make itself over as a general entertainment company. It recently changed its name to Clear Channel Media and Entertainment from Clear Channel Radio and is planning an expansion into television and live entertainment. Hogan has been with Clear Channel since 1999 and has managed to survive a few ownership changes during that time. The company is now part of CC Media Holdings Inc., whose chief executive is former AOL boss Bob Pittman and whose majority owners are private equity firms Bain Capital and Thomas H. Lee Partners. Earlier this month, the companies deepened their relationship with Ryan Seacrest, whose morning show is carried by the radio giant. Bain Capital and Thomas H. Lee Partners committed up to $300 million to acquire and develop properties with Ryan Seacrest Media. Last month, Clear Channel hired veteran cable and radio executive John Sykes as president of its newly created entertainment enterprise unit.

John Hogan is CEO of Clear Channel Radio[1] (a subdivision of Clear Channel Communications) in San Antonio, Texas. A 25 year radio veteran, he is responsible for the operations of nearly 1200 U.S. radio stations and nationally syndicated radio shows; including those of Rush Limbaugh, Ryan Seacrest, Casey Kasem, and Donald Trump.

In 2007, Hogan was named Group Executive of the Year by Radio & Records magazine.[2][not in citation given] Hogan was named second in the "40 Most Powerful People In Radio" list made by Radio Ink for 2009

I am hoping this means a return to better news and reporting by Clear Channel.

I recently read that C2C am, which used to be Art Bell’s show and was turned over to George Noori after he retired, is being dropped from many stations across the country.

Noori is all for Obama and I’m not sure but I think injects his political ideas on his show from time to time. He’s biased. I’m wondering if that has anything to do with the big drop, or maybe it is just ratings.

At any rate any CEO that gave us Limbaugh is a step in the right direction.

What if he fires all the libs? That wouldn’t be bad news:) But if what you say is true, then I do really feel for the honest workers in radio, but that I hear is also the way of radio, new guy comes on and everyone gets the axe.

Well, you can’t fire more than one person at a time in radio without firing liberals. Conservative talk sells, but that doesn’t mean everyone connected with it is conservative. Heck, even some of those conservative talk hosts are actually libs trying to earn a living!
