Educators accused of cheating in Atlanta Public Schools could be notified as soon as next week of the district's plans to fire them, Superintendent Erroll Davis said Friday.
Two have resigned since the district put educators on notice Thursday that terminations were imminent. A state investigation released in July accused 180 Atlanta educators of cheating; about 120 remain on the payroll at a cost of $600,000 a month to the city school district.

How do they cheat? Article doesn’t say.
I am really surprised these teachers are getting fired....I was sure somehow if would be swept under the rug by union thugs and political pressure....
Someone higher up in the Atlanta school system must have some serious cajones to actual hold people accountable

“How do they cheat? Article doesnt say.”
Earlier articles on the subject indicated that these teachers were “adjusting” test scores so that the district appeared to actually be educating the children in it when that was not the case. It went all the way up to the then superintendent.
Here is one article on the subject: http://articles.nydailynews.com/2011-07-06/news/29763007_1_cheating-on-standardized-tests-cheating-allegations-investigation
Oh, and in case you didn’t notice, Beverly Hall is Black.
You’ll have to take me at my word on this because I can’t remember the source but I believe I read that the teachers were allowed to grade the tests for their students. When the graded tests were reviewed, a number of the tests were flagged for having a large number of earasures and most of those changed incorrect to correct answers. When confronted, many teachers confessed.
I seem to recall that Beverly Hall is now retired on a million dollar pension. When are they going to cancel it or at least sue her?
Wow, and I’m not surprised, at the cheating that is. But I am surprised they are getting fired, good.
What’s the difference between what they were doing and current affirmative action college admissions policies?
“How do they cheat? Article doesnt say.”
I don’t know either, but I suspect that they were given the tests a week or two prior to the test date, and told not to open them until the test. Obviously, they then opened them and found people that could read them and answer the questions. With that information, they taught the kids the test problems. I’m sure they ‘helped’ during the tests also.
The OBVIOUS solution to the problem is to have the tests administered by people outside of the school district, people that would gain nothing if they helped the kids cheat. Obviously having multiple versions of the tests would also help...but still only if a stranger were handing them out.
Anyway, the days of testing and evaluating the effectiveness of public education is quickly ending. Very soon, we will simply call all kids ‘gifted’.
“How do they cheat? Article doesnt say.”
Whoops, I retract. If they actually taught the test questions (which I’m sure happens all over), the kids would actually have to learn something. In this case, as others mentioned, the ‘teachers’ simply changed the answers for the kid (I remember that too).
Sorry my friend but you have the wrong “black educator.” You are thinking of Arlene Ackerman. She’s the one that got the million dollar pay out from Philadelphia. Go here to read all about it:
