Rising concern about killing of NATO troops by Afghan military

The gunman who shot two U.S. military officers on Saturday in the highly secured Afghan Ministry of Interior was a junior intelligence officer with ties to a Pakistani religious school, an Afghan counter-terrorism official said.

It's just the latest incident of "green on blue" attacks which have been a rising problem for the U.S. and NATO. A recent Congressional hearing looked at the issue and found that while some were influenced by Taliban ideology, some of the motives were more personal.

It adds another layer of difficulty to tamping down the anger and mistrust that has arisen from the admission by NATO that troops burned some religious documents seized from prisoners.

This whole series of events makes it pretty apparent that there is no such thing as a "moderate" muslim. Any one of them appears to be capable of cold-blooded murder the second their mental trigger gets pulled, and you never know for certain what will set them off. I'm sure there are a few, but who can tell which from which? And as a civilized man, I ask plainly, "Why should I be put in a position in my own to make that determination?".

As it is, I tend to view them as an EOD does unexploded ordinance -- maintain safe distance and when necessary, destroy in place.

Of course, the media can denounce Santorum for his satan remarks, yet give credibility to lunatics who value a book over human life. There is an Afghani middle and upper middle class who are, more or less, normal, rational human beings. Yet there’s this enormous lunatic fringe in almost all these middle eastern countries. It’s a no win situation for whoever is President. Obama is smart enough to realize his apology isn’t going to sway the nuts- but it might neutralize the so-called independents- those on the fringe. I don’t like the idea of apologizing, but if it saves the lives of the people protecting us in this Afghani hellhole, I gotta support it 100%.

There’s no real need to turn these places into parking lots. Left alone, they’ll kill each other off. They always do.

We need to get every American out. Out now. Let the engineers make a one-time highway to the nearest safe point with air cover.

Load the troops into anything that moves and drive it out. Load up every air platform and fly it out. Blow up anything that gets in the way.

We need to get out of the middle east completely and leave NOTHING. Let them go back to the 8th century. I do not now and never believed that we would/could win over the neanderthals. They do not have the mental capacity to handle progress for themselves. If they want to stay in the dark ages, let them but DO NOT support them.
