For those out there loving the current Republican race but worrying that it has become somewhat orthodox in appearance and stable in candidates and support numbers, fear not: ABC News Jonathan Karl has the blind item for you. In the most mysterious and, for the GOP, worrisome dispatch on the Republican field in a while, Karl reports that a prominent Republican senator told him that the Party will not stand for a Mitt Romney loss in Michigan, and that he expects a result like that to lead the Senator to publicly call for the party to find a new candidate, likely former Florida Governor Jeb Bush.

So GOP primary voters turn down Romney because he's not a conservative and the GOP's plan to address their concerns involves trotting out yet another Bush - this one the least conservative of all?
I have trouble believing that even the GOP leadership could be this out of touch or this crazy.
To: Halfmanhalfamazing
Is this another story or the one from days ago? They don't want Newt at any costs.
People in Florida do not like Jeb as the people are made to believe. He was at one time a fighter against the libs here; then under pressure, he did like his brother and dad did/cave to the libs so they would like him more/tho, they about destroyed him.

RINO’s need to start their own party.
It is too late for anyone to get in the race and if the convention is split I certainly hope we don’t end up with some moderate who isn’t even running. I wouldn’t mind seeing DeMint or Palin get the nod, of course.

One could see this coming.....they are in panic mode, all due to Rick Santorum and to a lesster extent Newt Gingrich; their guy just cannot stand up to it; well, I say, to H*LL wit these bastardis with their "coronation from on high" business. Full REVOLT.

I’m truly considering putting one back on my vehicle.
To: sheikdetailfeather
I was thinking the SAME thing!
Get a clue elite. We HATE Romney. Stop pushing him on us.
To: Osage Orange
If the goal is to nominate a moderate, I do not see Romney dropping out as the optimal strategy for that end. It would be really easy for Santorum or Gingrich to get a majority then.
California’s filing deadline is March 10 or March 14 (for US Senate/US House candidates; I’m assuming it’s the same for President). It would be really hard for Jeb Bush or anyone to mount a campaign at this late stage.
Now if no one gets a majority then maybe Jeb would have a shot. However I would expect Santorum-Gingrich to coalesce before Romney and anyone else.
To: Ronin
They might get that with Ricky’s supporters but the Newt supporters are steadfast.

GWB did untold damage to the Republican Party! First, he began with the bogus premise of: “Compassionate Conservatism.” Conservatism is ALWAYS compassionate!
Secondly, he reached out to the Democrats time and time again, while completely ignoring his base!
Thirdly, he never defended himself or his positions...at least in a meaningful way. He in turn made the entire GOP look pathetic and weak!
Sorry, but I don't want to see another New World Order, weak-arse Bush occupying the Oval Office...EVER!

No. No to Jeb Bush. No to Mitt Romney. And No to the GOP if they insist on foisting off either of those onto us.
To: Halfmanhalfamazing; Travis McGee
The Republican establishment knows damned well that the only person Obama wants to run against more than Romney, is any other Bush.
It's becoming increasingly clear the Republican establishment genuinely wants to lose in 2012.
I have hunches as to why, such as the inevitability of a complete collapse in America, and the GOP-e doesn't want it on thier watch.

What the establishment is basically saying is:
The primaries are not really a contest. If our candidate “wins” you should rally behind him/her. If our candidate is going to lose we’ll get a new one. Screw you. You’re just votes to us.
To: Halfmanhalfamazing
This is why Romney isn’t going to let this happen. He will win Michigan even if it’s by chicanery. There will be two or three large precincts that won’t report for several hours if it looks like it will be close between him and Santorum, and then lo and behold, they’ll find just the right amount to put Romney over the top.
