Warren Buffett's Greatest Fear: An Inevitable Nuclear, Chemical Or Biological Attack On The US

Simone Foxman
Febuary 27, 2012

In an hours-long interview with CNBC this morning, Warren Buffett admitted that his biggest fear for the U.S. economy is not growth, public debt, Europe, or any of the many threats that generally top economists' worry lists.

It's actually a nuclear, biological, or chemical attack. Even so, an American baby is probably the luckiest person in the world today.

From the interview:

CNBC's Becky Quick: Overall you are very optimistic about the future not only of this country but of the stock market. But if you have a list of worries, what's at the top of that list?

Warren Buffett: My biggest worry is nuclear, chemical, and biological attack of some sort, whether by a government or by a rogue. That will happen some day in our future and that will be a large tragedy to an unbelievable tragedy.

Quick: Right now it's not on the forefront of Americans' minds although a lot of things that are happening in the Middle East right now are creeping back up there.

Buffett: It'll happen sometime when it isn't on our minds just like it happened on 9-11. There are people that wish us ill and they wish us a lot of ill if they can pull it off. So nuclear, chemical, and biological knowledge is spent. There are plenty of people that wish us ill, so that is the biggest worry. But in terms of the economy and all that, the luckiest person in the history of the world is the baby being born today in the United States. I mean, in terms of the outlook for their lives they are going to live better than John D. Rockefeller

Sure, because if you wipe out a big blue city like New York or Los Angeles Obama can't win reelection. Obama won by 8 million votes. Vaporize the 90% blue city of New York and you have made up that margin in one flash.

Socialism, political unrest, government oppression, those hit red districts as hard or harder than blue districts. A NBC attack impacts the dems power base in the big blue cities almost exclusively. And power is all Buffet and Obama care about.

Buffet’s real fear is that a Republican may take office and make him pay his taxes under the current code.

Buffet would sell them the makings if there was a profit in it for him.

This is window dressing to get the heat off the lies he is spewing to keep his lying cronies in office.

His biggest worry is NBC attacks? It should be that 0bambi goes completely beserk and steals ALL his money. Greater liklihood of the latter than the former.

I thought Buffet’s biggest worry was that I might not be paying 50% of my income to the Feds.

Buffet’s biggest fear, like all elites and Commies throughout history, is a truly economically free citizenry.

I guess all his money and liberal posturing won’t save his ass from something like that.

This is what he gets for putting his faith in earthly things.

If we ever are attacked with N, B or C, then, provided w e don’t have a commie in office, within 48 hours the Middle East will cease to exist.

Buffett is just using this topic to keep his name in the news as a great “oracle”.

Plenty of knowlegable and thinking people out here have said this for years. In between my enlisted and officer military careers I completed a degree in microbiology and worked as a research assistant doing research on pathogenic microbes. At the same time (1973) I read a novel called “The 11th Plague” which detailed an islamic group developing a biological weapon that dispersed microbial spores using packages that had their surfaces infused by with the spores. The packages were then put into the mail handling system in large cities where every person who handled the packages would pick up and spread the organisms, thus creating an epidemic.

The premises and the mode of dispersion were very plausible and even at the time it gave you some pause. There are all kinds of threats like this that are possible and in one respect, Buffett is correct; we don’t pay enough attention to these possibilities.
