STUDY: Ron Paul Never Attacked Romney Once During 20 Debates, But Attacked Romney’s Rivals 39 Times
Escape Tyranny ^ | 02/27/2012 | Judd Legum

Posted on 02/27/2012 9:29:46 AM PST by SeekAndFind

In recent days, attention has focused on the unusual relationship between Ron Paul and Mitt Romney, who are purportedly competing against each other for the Republican presidential nomination.

The New York Times reported recently that Romney has “worked to cultivate” a friendship with Paul. The candidates talk on the phone frequently. And when Paul’s “campaign jet broke down last year,” Romney “offered his jet to take them home to Texas.”

Rick Santorum has directly accused Paul and Romney of working together, noting “their commercials look a lot alike, and so do their attacks.” A review by ThinkProgress of the 20 GOP debates suggests Santorum might be onto something.

While Paul has freely attacked Romney’s top rivals, he has never once attacked Romney.

This is particularly striking given that Paul and Romney do not agree on virtually any policy positions. Paul has gone beyond merely refraining from attacks. He has actively defended Romney on some of his biggest vulnerabilities. For example, when Rick Perry attacked Romney for “Romneycare” during an October 18 debate, Paul interjected:

"First off, you know, the governor of Texas criticized the governor of Massachusetts for Romneycare, but he wrote a really fancy letter supporting Hillarycare. So we probably ought to ask him about that."

This has the republican party leaderships fingerprints all over it.

Since they have anointed Rommeny, they are probably behind this strategy.

Does anyone know why?

Funny part is, Romney has supported most if not all of what Ron Paul claims to oppose.

Very interesting. I had no idea. I guess Romney’s big treasure chest buys more than “organization”. If anything, Romney’s Big Government track record as Governor should have been the logical big target for supposed libertarian Paul. The fact that it wasn’t says a lot about the formerly unimpeachable Paul. It’s too bad because I actually like most of his libertarian positions.

I don’t think this strategy is as strange as many seem to think. Paul just figures that attacking Romney is a waste of time. Here is why.

Romney is the establishment candidate. Paul is anti-establishment. The act of attacking candidates is designed to weaken their support. For example, attacking Santorum as someone who is big government will cause his support from small government types to fade. Paul figures that his candidacy won’t ever get support from establishment Romney-type voters anyway.

He’s just trying to be as efficient as possible with his attacks, which is smart because he doesn’t have an unlimited amount of money to spend on ads.

Ron Paul and the Paulbots hate Reagan Conservatism, and Conservative-apparently more than the “establishment” (the very same crony-capitalism/banksters he purportedly is vehemently against)!!

I’ve been sending this to all my Paultard friends.

It makes their heads spin, seeing their idol revealed as a conniving sellout.

Their only tactic is #1 subject change, or #2 Paultard stump speech.

I’ve heard that little speech SO many times! My favorite reply: “Yes all that makes sense, but then RuPaul always announces Iran’s NOT seeking nukes, and that’s just clinically delusional.”

“It’s like you have cancer, so you go to the doctor. And the doctor explains in great detail how he’s gonna treat you with radiation and chemotherapy. And you feel confident he knows what he’s doing. Then you stand up and you’re about to leave the doctor’s office, when you overhear the doctor speaking to the “little green men” that live in his desk drawer about the mothership needing new fuel crystals for the voyage home.”

Efficient with his attacks? Then explain why their wive’s dine together and they both chat on the phone daily, why RuPaul is spending money on attack ads against Rick and Newt in states he isn’t even campaigning in and why Rand said that it would be a “honor” to be Milts VP? Come on. The truth is clear here. Paul and Romney have one big thing in common. They both hate conservatives. Paul is an absolute fraud and he has just been exposed as such.

The Only archer hitting the target is Newt Gingrich...
Most of the rats are guided away from Newt..

Newt is blowing on the house of cards.. Republicans seem to HATE THAT..
The more Newt blows, most republicans suck...

Paul is anti-establishment.

LOL, that's funny. Mr. Career Politician (longer than the rest of them) is somehow anti-establishment. Here is some inside baseball, Paul is as establishment as the rest playing a specific role- a political honeytrap. He is the type both parties always have to keep in their stable to keep the 'anti-establishment' voters believing they have someone on their side. They give lip service to anti-establishment rhetoric but they never actually pose a threat to the establishment. Take the Fed for example. Paul has given lip service for decades about ending it but has never done anything. At that, he has the role now in his chairmanship position to actually do something and he has done jack. He even voted against his own audit bill and sabotaged future bills. Yet, he still talks about ending it. To quote Shakespeare in Hamlet- "Words, Words, Words..."

This is becoming obvious and I think it’s interesting that neither Paul nor Romney will talk about it (at least not that I’m aware of).

Aren’t they being a bit disingenuous?

Why would you suggest it is either coincidence or something questionable, rather than completely rational. Santorum has openly shown disrespect for the Tenth Amendment; shown himself in favor of extending Federal interference into local functions. Romney, for all his past failings, has given a States Rights' explanation--he was accommodating his fellow citizens of Massachusetts.

Ron Paul has been one of the most stalwart defenders of the Jefferson/Madison States' Rights position in Congress, over the past generation.

Do not look for something ominous or covert, where only consistent principle is involved.

Ron Paul and the Paulbots hate Reagan Conservatism,

Paul's stands are closer to Reagan's than are those of any of the other candidates. Your statement is ridiculous.

Remember, Reagan was forced to go along with some of the Federal domestic programs that he had attacked before his election, in order to get cooperation on his defense budget--the one that broke the back of Soviet Communism. But philosophically, Reagan was to the right of Gingrich & Santorum, who now talk a more Conservative, smaller Government role, than they actually practiced in the past.

And remember that when Reagan realized that his attempt to stabalize Lebanon was proving a counter-productive policy, putting American lives at unjustifiable risk, he reversed the policy, and withdrew. This is basically what Dr. Paul has been advocating as to our forces in other parts of the region, where we have been drawing hostile fire, with no clear gain for American interests.

Then explain why their wive’s dine together and they both chat on the phone daily

People aren't allowed to be friends? I seem to recall Justices Ginsburg and Scalia being friends even though they are usually polar opposites. I don't see that as relevant. why RuPaul is spending money on attack ads against Rick and Newt in states he isn’t even campaigning in

I didn't know RuPaul the transvestite was running for President. But if you are just coming up with a juvenile name to call someone, then I'm not aware of any state that Paul isn't campaigning in. Perhaps he didn't spend so much money in Florida because it cost too much and the money is better used elsewhere. But he has several campaign stops in Michigan and he is running the ads here. As to the reason why, I think I gave a pretty decent one. Santorum voters are easier to get and more likely to come over than Romney voters.

Rand said that it would be a “honor” to be Milts VP?

Isn't this pretty much what anyone would say? As you would say, "Come on."

Paul and Romney have one big thing in common. They both hate conservatives. Paul is an absolute fraud and he has just been exposed as such.

Hate is a strong word. But if conservatives have given us the wasteful spending of the first six years of Bush, the big-government-can-spy-on-whomever-it-wants Patriot Act, and has helped Obama pass NDAA and other such Big Brother stuff, and has turned a blind eye while Obama kills whomever he wants with Predator drones, without so much as a hearing, who support the Fed's enabling of trillions of dollars of debt on the backs of future generations in the name of "stimulus," then sure, I guess then conservatives aren't Paul's cup of tea. If conservatives are small government supporters who want to shrink the debt, the federal budget, and to get its dead weight off the shoulders of the American people, then I guess that means Paul is the only actual conservative in the race.

As to your last point about fraud, I'd ask you to elaborate because you don't make it clear as to what you mean by "just been exposed," but somehow I'd imagine that the response would just be more of the same.

While it is true that Paul has more to spend than Gingrich or Santorum, I guess by "unlimited" I was comparing the amount he has to spend to the amount someone like, Obama, or Romney, has rolling in from Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, Citigroup, or Bank of America.

Obama
Romney
Paul
Santorum
Gingrich

It is interesting to see which company's employees give to which candidate. Romney has all the big Wall Street banks. Santorum has health insurance companies. Gingrich has an ethanol company (subsidies?), and Paul has the members of the U.S. military.

As a conservative who supports property rights, I would assume that you believe that Peter Thiel has the right to use his money however he wants to use it. He has chosen his candidate the same as you or I have, and he has chosen to support that candidate. I don't really see anything wrong with that.

Feel free to pimp this Israel hating, Stormfront supported, Conservative hating, Truther, Reagan hating, pro Iranian POS Paul all you like. He is a fraud. For example, he goes around complaining about Ricks earmarks, when he is the king of earmarks. He loads popular bills with them and then votes against them because he knows they will pass. He then can say he didn’t vote for them. Total sham.

The only reason this loser RuPaul is in this GOP Primary contest is because the Libertarians threw him out after his campaign stole money from the party in ‘88. They didn’t want him anymore so the only way to peddle is nonsense was to leach off the GOP party apparatus. He is not a Conservative and he has no business masquerading as one or even being in the GOP.

You are either a supporter of Ron Paul or by default a Romney supporter. Ron is clearly in bed with Romney. They are both despicable people and are bad for America. I have no intention if giving them one ounce of my time or interest. In summary, Ron Paul is a loser.
