Gas prices keep rising: $3.70 nationally, $4.29 in California
LA Times ^ | 2/27/2012 | Tiffany Hsu

Posted on 02/27/2012 12:55:30 PM PST by tobyhill

Going somewhere? It’ll cost you even more this week, with the national average price of a gallon of regular fuel now up to nearly $3.70 and rising 26 cents to $4.29 in California.

That’s up 14 cents a gallon from a week ago and a 29-cent increase from a month ago. A gallon is now more than 10% more expensive than the $3.35 it cost this time last year, according to the AAA Fuel Gauge Report.

But in California, drivers are wishing prices were still that low. The state’s average cost for a gallon is $4.29, compared to $4.03 a week ago. That’s nearly 15% more than the year-ago cost of $3.74 a gallon.

For more than a year, gas prices in California have hovered above the national average. Prices have already reached levels usually not seen until springtime, when refineries temporarily close for maintenance and more expensive summertime fuel blends are being swapped in at the pump.

It's okay: Americans LOVE high gas prices - that's why we keep voting for them.

So stop your whining and smile while at the pump. You worked hard for this. :)

It’s worth remembering that as recently as last summer, USA Today was describing $3.65/gal gas as ‘good news.’ They should be overjoyed in the coming months.

$3.79 in central PA this morning.

My basic grocery list is up an average of ~40% (conservatively) since this time last year.

it’s funny how you’ll know liberals that are always saying that it’d be better if gas prices should be higher, then in the same breath say Obama has nothing to do with the gas prices.

Didn’t California recently stop all oil drilling offshore?

If they did they deserve higher gas bills.

Surprising that the LA Times admits that higher gas prices is exactly what Obama said he wanted.

Obama should now be a happy man.

My old ‘89 Ford truck takes premium gas. Filled up the front tank last Friday 15.356 gallons @$4.51.9 per gallon. Total was $69.39.

I only run that truck to Home Depot, or Smart & Final for bulk. It sits up by the barn most of the time.

“Didn’t California recently stop all oil drilling offshore?”

There still are a few offshore rigs near Long Beach and Santa Barbara. If the state would allow it, they could slant drill from the existing rigs and pay tons of royalties to the state of California....but OH NO, we are going to put one million electric cars on the roads instead.

Its $3.95/ga here in CT but luckily I’m just 10 miles from the Massachusetts line where I paid $3.65/ga. I never thought I’d find paying $3.65/ga a good deal.

Thanks Obi, we really appreciate you pulling the plug on the pipeline. It’s every bit as good as when you summarily stopped drilling in the gulf.

8 months and one week to go, you worthless ba$tard.

Its not just Obama. I have to admit my own brother-in-law MA has stated before that gas should be 5 a gallon. I don’t know how many people actually believe this. I was going to say lemmings but I love my brother. They think among other things that it will help green energy become viable.

BTW. We need a state that will tell the feds hey we will pay what our citizens owe you in fed taxes you just leave it up to us to decide how we get the money. Now we ask that most of you feds leave our state and the rest we want registered and identified with gps devices.

We have NOT found a way to make so-called “green” energy viable and cost effective, so all higher gas prices are going to do is continue to hurt millions of struggling Americans financially. Meanwhile, we could be cutting our gas prices drastically by drilling for the MILLIONS OF GALLONS of oil that’s just sitting dormant under our soil ready for our usage!

MILLIONS OF GALLONS

Millions of gallons? Try 4 BILLION BARRELS in the Bakken formation in N. Dakota and Wyoming alone.

Odd as it is, the local grocery chain has been practically giving eggs away for about a $1.00/doz. for the last couple of months. Beef is $8/lb tho and the car won’t run on eggs.

No one in the MSM seems to remember Obama saying gas price increases were a good thing because it would dampen demand.

Jimmy Carter partly loat the 1980 election due to the Energy crisis of 1977. Has he learned anything from the past its going to backfire on him. If prices continue to go up(which may pass 110 dollars per barrel. A barrel of oil is 42 gallons for trivia buffs) he will lose the election.
