Astros Remove Colt .45 from Colt Throwback Jersey
The Astros are marking their 50th anniversary this season, so theyll be wearing an assortment of throwback uniforms for Friday home games, espn.go.com reports. That includes the uniform of the Houston Colt .45s, which was the teams name for the first three years of the franchises existence.
With a slight modification. Astros authentication manager Mike Acosta told a fan that During our discussion with Major League Baseball, it was expressed to us that we could wear the uniform as long as the pistol was removed. We realize this changes the original design, but we still want to honor the Colt .45s. We are also under an obligation to follow Major League Baseballs requests.
ESPNs Paul Lukas reckons Its nice that MLB doesnt want kids exposed to handgun imagery, but putting the kibosh on the original Colts jersey feels like a bit much. Outrage much? Apparently not.
What a bunch of groveling politically correct pussies.
What’s happening to Texas?
I hate this planet.
My ancestors fought for liberty at Bunker Hill, Saratoga etc. with GUNS.
That is why I am a Rangers fan. Nolan Ryan would never do something so stupid.
Looks like it came down from the dweebs at MLB and they didn’t want to fight city hall.
When I was in high school in the 70s, I had a t-shirt with an open pack of Winchesters (the little cigars) on it. Instead of the cigs, a bunch of Winchester rifles stuck up out of the opening. I thought it was a funny play on words, both being Winchesters.
I wore it to school a few times. Nobody said a word.
Wasn’t aware they are growing PC pansies in Houston these days. Have at it, ladies.

The fans in Houston are not pleased either. Whether MLB made the Astro’s make the change or not, it is an isult to one’s intelligence. As an aside, I don’t really care one way or the other. I live in Houston but grew up in the OC. I am an Angels fan, and can’t wait until the 2013 season.
I know it’s impossible, but I hope you Pussies lose every game.
....And today, the Dallas Cowboys changed their name to the Dallas, Muffins as 'Cowboys' was deemed a rough, outdated word...Native Americans and little girls cheered the change.
BTW, I still say 'the personnel' office...not, the 'human resources' office. Tell me why that was even changed, eh?
And the modification
They replaced it with a Red X? No wonder they’re upset.
Absolutely no one should show up at the stadium that day.
Thousands of fans should show up wearing T-shirts with a picture of a Colt .45 on them.............
yeah...um...original logo is from wiki, the modification is from the source article
“Amerika: Your Changing Past”
You can blame BS Bud Selig for this. The man is destroying baseball. He forced the new Astros owner to move to the American League before approving the deal. Now this.
Exactly! We can't have that happening again, can we, comrade?
Previous article on this:
“Guns Not Welcome At Minute Maid”
That’s a pretty good representation of an M-1873 single action Army. I’m surprised that Colt FA didn’t have proprietary issues with it - even the script is a little reminiscent of the COLT logo.
They probably considered it good free advertizing though - and it probably was.
The current team could probably put a dildo on their jersey’s and it would be fine... but not a GUN!!
GUNS = B-a-a-a-aa-ddd!!!
Notice in the original the C is shown as smoke from the gun barrel. With the removal of the gun the C is alone and unchanged and makes no sense like the whole affair.
