Liberty Groups Under Attack by the IRS (this is very big)
Kentucky 9/12 Project ^ | February 14, 2012 | Eric Wilson

Posted on 02/27/2012 4:41:56 PM PST by ChildOfThe60s

Kentucky – On February 14, 2012 the Kentucky 9/12 Project joined close to 80 liberty groups from around the country the IRS has targeted and is attempting to regulate out of existence. Even though many of these groups have filed for Not-for-Profit status at various times (over the past three years) all have received IRS inquiries and responses in just the last three months.

“This is nothing more than a governmental witch hunt on freedom speaking Americans” Said Eric Wilson director of Kentucky 9/12 Project. “It is their attempt to either drown groups like ours in unnecessary paper work and time or you survive and give them everything they want only to be hung.”

The Kentucky 9/12 Project filed for a 501(c)(4) status in December of 2010. They received their first correspondence almost immediately back from their application saying there would be a determination within 90 days. Since then all of their activities, relations, and dealings have falling well within the bonds of that which defines this status. Despite this and with no reference to any issues with its original application or specific concerns almost 14 months later they received a letter (dated February 14) requesting detailed documentation to answer 30 questions with sub-bullets (88 total separate inquiries) and only a two-week period to comply. Even more alarming to directors of the group were the personal information the IRS were requesting and overreaching questions.

Various Tea Parties, 9/12 Project, and Liberty groups around the country are coming forward with very similar oppressive demands being sent to them from the IRS as well.

I urge every FReeper to read this.

The following is excerpted from the email I received from Kentucky 9/12. IMO this is no less than a call to arms:

Over and above the burdensome nature of this inquiry were the intrusive details that they were asking including schedule and content of every event, speakers names and details, and every communication.

Most alarming was their request to provide names and personal information of our volunteers and membership.

When the IRS get the membership lists it is going to destroy all of us, one at a time.

I called my spineless congressman here in KY and told his representative that unless congress steps up and stops this now, he can pack up and go home because he is worthless.

No Tea Party I know of verifies ID of its members. So who is say 50 million John Galts are not the names of the members of the Tea Party.

The Gestapo has finally arrived. The 2nd Amendment wasn’t put into the Constitution for squirrel hunting.

Tell them to suck a lemon and if they take any action on you sue their butts off for violating the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment, since both Eric Holder and Obama can ignore subpoenas at will without consequence.

Or tell them you’ve done a “reasonable search” for the records they requested, looking in your records from the 1970’s - and if they don’t think that’s good enough then they should talk to Judge Land about it - the one who ruled that the Passport Office had done a “reasonable search” when they looked in the 1978-and-later records for a 1965 passport application...

Or heck, just make some stuff up with Mickey Mouse and Daisy Duck as your volunteers and membership, post it on the internet, and tell them to ask Judge Malihi in Georgia whether that’s good enough... and if not, again - sue them for violating the Equal Protection Clause.

What goes around comes around. The measure they give will be the measure they get.

It’s a structural trap. These tax free non profits remain so only by the whim of the tax administrators. Things are somewhat easier today as there are tax courts which are binding on even the IRS. But it would not be beyond a Ratly IRS to attempt to force every single one to go to court separately.

Is CAIR the same kind of organization for tax purposes? ACORN? Any other groups?

We need to all make a FOIA request for the letters that the IRS sent out to those groups when they requested tax-exempt status.

If we got about 1,000 Freepers to do this they might get the hint...

And some say it doesn’t matter if ogoonion and his thugs are ruling or Romney. By the time ogoonion’s 2nd term is over there won’t be an America left for a chance to elect a conservative to our liking EVER AGAIN.

No matter WHO is running against ogoonion, he will have to be the *it* guy to stand between irreversible obama thugocracy and the Constitution — and NO 3RD parties which is a 100% vote for the ogoonion communist agitator.

Best thing is if the R-e doesn’t play chicken with us. No matter what, they’re gonna need us pulling for whoever is put up there and their continuously flipping us off is not winning them lots of friends or goodwill.

Stuff like changing the requirement for VA petition signatures to include addresses, without telling anybody they were changing the rules in mid-stream.... all to keep Gingrich and Santorum off the ballot. Or the crappy games they played with the ballot counting in both IA and MD... Or doing winner-takes-all in FL, against the law...

Right now I’d vote for maggots from the trash before I’d vote for Obama, but voting for Mitt (who set the pattern for even Obama on how to trash Constitutional religious liberty while setting the stage for anti-Constitutional sharia) would be a very, very bitter pill to swallow. At this point he’s about the same height in my estimation as the maggots in the trash dumpster. And the R-e folks who are trying to force him onto us are even lower than that.

What I’ve wondered is, why does any organization need to be tax exempt and non profit?

Why not organize without it and let each member be responsible for their own activities?

That’s the catch in the system as it exists now. Any group wanting to be a tax exempt non profit has to (at least in principle) get Uncle Sam’s blessing. This looks like an open door to near-infinite abuses.

almost 14 months later

This is overblown. The IRS is very far behind on applications for nonprofit status. They are currently assigning apps received in July 2011. I have done many applications and they always ask for additional information. It hardly matters how complete the application is originally.

The IRS has been used for political intimidation at least since the FDR administration. Anyone who works for the IRS should be ashamed.

Except this may be more of a BiPartisan DC witch hunt against Constitutional Government proponents

taking into account this, _and_ some of the other things happening this year - like the Catholics being told that they have to pay for contraceptives — what interests me is that these things are happening in an election year. .... they are very bold and they think that Obama will be re-elected? It really doesn’t bode well. I don’t mean to sound depressing! ....maybe a “conspiracy”! ... In other words he thinks he’ll be re-elected because they think they can get the votes they need through various kinds of fraud etc.——??

Interesting, too, that they apparently don’t like things that have the word “freedom” in them! Reminds me of a James Thurber story.
