Newt Gingrich presented a stark contrast between Republicans and Democrats on gasoline prices Saturday at the California GOP convention in Burlingame. Gingrich promised, if elected, to bring gasoline prices below $2.50 per gallon.
A day earlier, in a signature speech on energy, President Obama told the University of Miami that there "are no silver bullets short term when it comes to gas prices." Indeed, the problem of gasoline price spikes "won't be solved in one year; it won't be solved in one term; it may not be completely solved in one decade." (Just what you wanted to hear: Even given two terms, Obama doesn't expect to do much about high gasoline prices.)
Obama scoffed at Republicans' "three-point plan for $2 gas:"
"Step one is to drill, step two is to drill, and then step three is to keep drilling."
That's how savvy this president is: Californians have paid more than $4 per gallon for gasoline this month, yet the president mocked the commonsense notion that more product will lower prices.
To Obama, more domestic oil production is a "gimmicky" fix.
Democrats have been arguing that gas-price spikes happen - and they have a point. But so did Gingrich when he charged that high gasoline prices are part of a "deliberate strategy of the left to punish the American people and get them to drive the kind of cars they want you to." Gingrich charged that Obama "believes in small cars" and "high prices" and "government control."

And of course, Volt cars that are way more expensive than they are worth, do not come in a pickup truck model, and even if you could fit a gun rack in one, you cannot fit the yeehaw.
and to Nana, cheap gas is good
Yeah, but the rest of us love expensive fuel. Idiots.
With all this from Newt why in the heck is Romney winning ANY state!? I’m just furious.
Didn’t you hear? Newt is 100% unelectable. That is why Santorum and Romney have stolen Newt’s talking points.
$2.50 is cheap gas?
Low cost energy could put the U.S. back in manufacturing competition worldwide.
NEWT = $2.50 gasoline.
It is cheap compared to $3.48 a gallon here is Central Mo.. If you listen to Newt’s complete energy plan gas would end up being less than $2.00 a gallon if this country implements it.
