Bob Barr: Libertarians should vote for Gingrich
The Daily Caller ^ | February 28, 2012 | Steven Nelson

Posted on 02/29/2012 12:31:27 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

Former Georgia Republican Rep. Bob Barr supports Newt Gingrich’s campaign for president, and told The Daily Caller other libertarians should consider joining him.

Barr was elected to Congress in 1994 and worked alongside Gingrich as he became Speaker of the House. Barr left office in 2003 and in 2008 ran as the Libertarian Party’s presidential candidate, receiving more than 500,000 votes nationwide.

Explaining his support for Gingrich, a politician not often considered a libertarian darling, Barr told The Daily Caller, “I’m very comfortable and happy supporting Newt,” adding, “it’s not to say that other candidates like Ron Paul don’t have very good ideas.”

The former congressman has served as a surrogate for Gingrich’s campaign, primarily reaching out to groups supportive of the Second Amendment. He said he has some policy differences with Gingrich, but finds his political track record reassuring.

“Of all of the Republican candidates, he is the one best equipped and with an actual track record of accomplishing important conservative and libertarian goals,” said Barr. “A track record to me is a much better indicator of where these candidates truly stand than what they may say.”……

->>The antagonism is no big deal. We’re all just trying to get our guy to the nomination.

It is ok to stand up for ones candidate though some of the insults and remarks are uncalled for.

Have you had anything positive to say about Newt since Rick’s been viable? Or are you just dropping by to shred Newt’s supporters?

The irony is in the timing. I was defending the FReeper’s right to express his point of view only to be smacked in the back of the head a few posts later. Typical primary crap.

I don't understand the anger, as a Newt supporter, that I am getting at times from a certain group; some of the people don't like it that you say your own thoughts(like a liberal attack). Very odd to read at a conservative forum. Thanks for listening, take care.

"Sarah Palin needs to help like Gov Perry, Fred Thompson and some others are doing."

I had a brief conversation with Callista Gingrich. I told her, "You are Newt's secret weapon and I'm glad that Newt is letting you speak at his rallies. I bet Newt's been talking to Sarah Palin." Callista replied, "Thank you for your good words and yes, Newt's has been speaking to Sarah a good deal."

The worldwide left, in all of its forms and practices, plus other non-leftists (moderates, RINOS, some Libertarians...), plus elitists of all political ideologies, plus establishment Republicans in the U.S., combined, have all done their best to block the truth on all issues from the entire worldwide general public. All worldwide conservatives, still, need successful ways of working together in order to achieve the common goal of healthy political clout for all things conservative on all of the issues, worldwide. The left, often, works with each other, worldwide (political correctness, the “dumbing down” of the worldwide general public, the MSM, the entertainment world, political indoctrination in schools, judicial activism throughout the world, trial lawyers, labor unions, social workers, psychologists, leftist religious leaders,...), while conservatives, worldwide, often work from within their own countries, only. Where’s the healthy, ongoing, worldwide connection for all conservatives, everywhere in the world?

Thank you so much for telling me and sharing your visit with

Callista. I am praying Sarah comes out to endorse or gets in as his running mate. I don't think she wants to see the country to end up with Romney.

You are so right. First objective should be to have the most experienced person to battle the left’s agenda vs. accommodating conditions or with people which allow these practices to spread in the fiber of our lives. Pretty soon, we are going to be a European style country as our own media is taking us there. Do you think people will become angry to say I want big changes.

This from the man who took just enough votes in NC for Obama to win.

Thanks Barr for helping elect Obama.

people have a habit ( especially here on FR ) of lumping all libertarians into one basket. There are small l libertarians, and capital L libertarians. The capital L libertarians are the ron paul nut jobs. The small l libertarians are actually more conservative than so called republican conservatives. Just tell these people that all republicans are conservatives.

The constitution, as written, applied as written, would piss off liberals and so called conservatives alike. Many sacred cows would be gored. Have a conversation with a so called social(ist) conservative, and what you will find is that both sides want to rule our behavior with laws. The laws just come from the opposite side of the political spectrum.

A better worldwide connection, long-term, with all conservatives, worldwide, would do much to: greatly decrease anti-Americanism; greatly decrease anti-capitalism; shrink governments, worldwide; balance budgets, worldwide; cut taxes, worldwide, and, even, eliminate the need for taxes, worldwide-especially outdated ways, unfair ways, unfriendly ways, and profoundly complex ways of collecting taxes; greatly decrease all forms of “government dependence”, worldwide, from the cradle to the grave; create a “conservative UN”, without all of the red tape and without all of the incompetencies, waste, fraud, and abuses of power that continue to exist within the actual UN; help to cause the end of all forms of leftist politics and end all forms of leftist practices that remain in existence, worldwide; and help to create many more worldwide media outlets and many worldwide entertainment industries that are: pro-conservative, pro-politically neutral all of the time, pro-Libertarian, and pro-political ideologies that are not leftist. All of these things should of been done by conservatives, worldwide, many decades ago, instead of, still, not being done today, by conservatives everywhere in the entire world!

I hope Newt can turn this around. Looks possible. Barr does have a following among social conservative, constitutional libertarians. That would also be known as classical liberals (liberals before they progressed to become Marxists). I hope he helps Newt.

I haven't tore in to Newt like his supporters are on Rick. I can show you a thread where one of them is calling for a ROMNEY/Newt ticket. How terrible is that to be comfortable with Milt on any ticket instead of Rick? I personally don't think Newt is in this to a real degree anymore so I don't have any comments either way on him. I don't care if he stays in this race or not and never called for him to drop out of this either like the Newt people did of Rick. If he is up in GA significantly Tues, I hope he wins there just to take delegates away from Milt.

My issue here on this thread is with Barr. He is not someone I think should be given any respect. He has a very untrustworthy past and should be called out as a phoney anytime he opens his mouth.

I think it’s important we all fight hard for our candidates.

And I want to extend an apology for responding with a disproportional remark.

FRegards.

Agreed.

I’d like to see greater emphasis on Life with Libertarians, primarily nascent life.
