Three Percent
http://www.redstate.com ^ | February 29, 2012 | Erick Erickson

When you have a candidate few people really like, whose support is a mile wide and an inch deep, whose raison d’etre (a 4am fancy word) is fixing an economy that is fixing itself without him, and who only wins his actual, factual home state by three percentage points against a guy no one took seriously only two months ago, there really is little reason for independent voters in the general election to choose him if the economy keeps improving.

Seriously, putting it bluntly, conservatives may not like Barack Obama, but most other people do. And when faced with a guy you like and a guy you don’t like who says he can fix an economy that no longer needs fixing, you’re going to go with the guy you like.

Erick is absolutely right. Nominate Obama-light and no way in hell he beats the real deal in November.

I’m going to stand by my increasingly fervent idea that we won’t even make it to the elections. Something is in the works, I just know it.

If, by some grace of God, we make it to the elections, there will be so much fraud and corruption, ballot stuffing, vote buying, dead people, kids, dogs and cats voting that Obama will win by a landslide of fakery.

I have no hope left for this Republic. I’m only praying that I survive the coming onslaught against us long enough to see children to the age where they can be self-sufficient. War and pestilence are coming, I fear.

I have the same thoughts. Problem is that those ‘thoughts’ are really only a Hope. And as they say, “Hope aint’t a plan.”

Everyone keeps focusing on a political solution to solve a spiritual failing of the Christian church in the U.S.

The solution out of this mess is NOT by electing the next buffoon to the top spot, nor is it removing the current tyrant occupying the highest office. That is merely the symptom and consequence to the ROOT CAUSE of our nation’s problems.

Our ONLY HOPE, is that this nation has to go and pull a II Chronicles 7:14. This includes suffering the oppression of tyranny, upon which our Founders and patriarchs wisely understood was the result of national sins that required repentance.

The church had better get busy, because of not, and we don’t do II Chronicles 7:14 as a people, then like the period of evil Judges in ancient Israel, we will select worse and more evil until we are completely destroyed as there is no wisdom left in the land.

A people unwilling to be governed by God will be ruled by the tyranny of men. It’s that simple folks.

Whoa - Calm down.
There is now way 0bama will win the election with $4++ gasoline. Even the college students, who are fed a constant diet of liberal fantasy, have woken up to 40% increases to tuition and a doubling of gas prices under this jerk. Oh when asked publicly they all love the Demonic-rats and 0bama; but privately they say otherwise.
I believe that there will be a low turnout for 0bama; they plan to stay home and not vote at all. Which will lead to a GOP landslide all the way down the ticket.
So cheer up.

I hate to say it, but I believe the author is correct in his assessment that those outside the conservative “house” actually like Obama.

America is moving hard left, politically, and exacerbating this unfortunate condition is the fact 49.5% pay no federal income tax. They simply have no incentive to change. The system is rife with freebies from government-supplied food to housing, income to cell phones... all provided by the ever-dwindling ranks of taxpayers.

This doesn`t even address the rapidly growing demographic of hispanics, whose leanings are deep blue. The more political power they attain, the more our national “leaders” are to acquiesce to their demands to further open the borders and give amnesty and citizenship to illegals.

I do indeed pray about the future.. but my prayers are more directed toward boldly facing life in the “new” America... because it`s quite clear the old one isn`t coming back.

zzzzz

Yeah, I know, the political realm does not hold the answers to everything. Got it. I agree.

But it exists nonetheless. And it is important. The spiritual realm and the political realm are not mutually exclusive. Be wise as serpents and gentle as doves. You do not have the first part down.

zzzzzz

Erick got one thing very very wrong however. The economy is not fixing itself - it will certainly tank under these high gas prices coming. I am stunned he fell for that.

Otherwise, he’s correct about Mitt.

If you actually want to get married, get a license and go to the JP.

Trying to disguise really ugly language with cute little characters doesn't accomplish anything. We still know you talk like that.

When did he say that? Seems he's been criticizing him from the get-go which is music to my ears.

He did a pretty good job of it last night. He's taken incoming from the left and the right and in spite of splitting the vote four ways is still surviving. At what point do we stop discounting the actual voters? Santorum and Gingrich are going to split the conservative vote in the south. Who does that help? At this point I'm going with a reality check.

...EGGZACTLY, I think you’re correct, with the Soros funded Sec of State project (already got us Al Franken-Sat Night Live in the Senate)and the bloated voter lists, the Acorn alums will be voting early and often and the stuffed ballot boxes will appear in a fleet of trunks across the country and especially in swing states. Indian reservations will vote twice their populations and anyone questioning it will be shouted down as racists... should be an interesting election season!

ymmv

People underestimate the slap of reality that happens when you're filling up your gas tank at 5 zops a gallon....it's just you and the spiraling dollar-meter; no union goons or Chris Matthews to explain it all away.

$5 gas sends obama packing to Chicago.

I agree. Durable goods orders were down 4% last month. That's bad. I see the folks on CNBC talking about the Recession as if it's in the past, but I think that's very wrong. Soaring gas prices, European Union hanging on by a thread, our own out of control debt, virtually no domestic manufacturing - we've not seen anything yet.

I suspect the nondurable goods orders aren't faring so well either. My wife is a clearance rack shopper. She went out in January to buy next year's winter clothes for the grandkids. She's been doing this for years - she knows the system. She reports that it was slim pickins out there - worst selection she's ever seen. I fear the economy's heading into the toilet.

The problem with Romney is:

1) He is the Establishment GOP’s candidate
2) He is a moderate and everytime the GOP has run a moderate, the other guys won (Dole, McCain)
3) Despite the claim that he is “electable”, he’s not
4) He is out-of-touch with conservative America
5) a Romney America will not be much different than an Obama America
6) If Romney is the nominee, Obama gets a second term.

I fully concur. For over 200 years we have enjoyed the blessings of God because we were focused on religious freedom.

But, because we have turned our backs on God, we seem to be surprised that we are no longer God's favorite.
