Skip to comments.Gingrich Camp: Romney a 'Pavlovian' Liar
Posted on 02/29/2012 11:13:55 AM PST by Red Steel
Mitt Romney resorts to lying every time he is cornered, two former congressmen who support his rival, Newt Gingrich, claim in a letter sent to influential newspapers in Super Tuesday states.
Former Reps. Bob Walker and J.C. Watts asked the papers to bear in mind 18 instances in which either Romney or his super PAC, Restore Our Future, have spouted what they call falsehoods.
Governor Romneys negative attack mentality, unfortunately, is a reflection of his own persona, Watts and Walker say in the letter sent to leading newspapers in Georgia, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Washington state. All have primaries next Tuesday except Washington, which holds caucuses on Saturday.
If you closely examine the record you will see that we are not discussing here lapses of memory. We are saying that the evidence is clear that Governor Romney has a near-Pavlovian reflex of lapsing into falsehoods in order to rearrange reality to his liking.
The record shows that when publicly challenged or at a loss for an answer, Governor Romney shows a deeply engrained habit of mendacity.
Walker, a 10-term congressman from Pennsylvania, is Gingrichs national campaign chairman. Watts, who served four terms from Oklahoma, is a senior adviser. Both were in the House while Gingrich was speaker.
Walker told Newsmax that voters should be wary of voting for Romney because how you campaign tends to be how you govern.
The public should be concerned about a candidate who is willing to engage in a sustained and systemic campaign of mendacity.
Walker said the amount of money spent and lies told by the Romney campaign undermines the entire electoral process.
But Walker said that bodes ill for the fall campaign against President Barack Obama if Romney is successful, because he feels Romney cannot sustain such negativity.

This is true, the man is a pathological liar, and a high ranking cult leader.
LOL! Islamic “Rage Boy” shows up at the most interesting moments!
Just as we’ve all said over and over, Romney is just like Obama. That means he’s a liar just like him too.
He and his buddies almost qualify as a Monte Python sketch material! (Think Spanish Inquisition)
Their books tell them how. You will notice that when one of the candidates gets to close to the truth, Romney craftly changes the subject or makes some sort of "well, we don't have to get mad" (funny,NOT) statement.
Their faiths train them to perfect that ability. Romney/Obama are past masters at it.
Wonder if Santorum will thank him?
Or continue with his own false ads against Newt?
Pavlovian Liar! What a great description of such a brainwashed man, conditioned to give the Marxist canned responses that he totally believes because of his warped upbringing.
Pavlov was a mentor of Lenin. For Lenin (and zero and Romney) it is all about the perceptions of the masses. The Big Lie is essential to repeat. Control the media and the images—you control what the masses “think”. Romney is a programmed robot.
I would suggest that Gingrich point out that Romney won Obama territory (Detroit) but not much else in Michigan yesterday. The congressional districts he won are 5, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 14. Romney stands virtually zero chance of winning most of those in the fall.
Romneys positions and that of Newts are pretty well known.
One has acted them out and the other has not.
One is opportunist for the purpose of advancement, the other is a serious intellect and strategist whose performance in the past I very much agreed with.
In fact, I had to educate our new local host his 2nd day on the air. He made the unfortunate mistake of Praising Bill Clinton for Welfare Reform, the Balanced Budget and lowered taxes through capital gains tax cut.
Brian Sussman made an unfortunate mistake of trying to give Clinton credit on the one hand while demonstrating his errors on the other.
I called in and thanked him for deciding to become a full time talk jock but I wanted to correct his view about Clintons legacy. Not to be contrarian or take away from him or Bill Clinton but they were just plain wrong and I asked I might quickly demonstrate why Clinton deserved zero Credit and when I am through who really should get the credit, without insulting anyone.
So I quickly went through them:
Contract with America, who wrote it? Newt Gingrich was his reply.
That is correct.
Now to clear the record Ill go through them in the order I think is most powerful:
Capital Gains tax cut-
Was thought of as a response to Clintons raising of taxes and as a tool to keep the investment community well, inevesting and spurring additional investment. That was a Contract with America initiative and a well thought out position by Newt.
There was some horse trading and Newt gave away something no one really cared about to get it and the economy kept going with the result being unemployment dropping from 7% to 4% in a few short years.
The host immediately got the idea, said he would probably rephrase his thought at the end and asked me to continue.
Balanced Budget -
Again, Newt gave Clinton some bases that were already on the secondary list, devised by Dick Cheney, as alternatives for closure. Clinton got a win for his anti-military wing, we gave away something we didnt care about and got what we wanted.
Welfare Reform -
this was the end goal all along and with a new Republican majority Congress it easily passed the House only to have Clinton veto it.
No problem. The President has the bully pulpit but was embroiled in a few distractions at the time which made it possible for Newt, Dole and few others to take their case directly to the American people who were sick of welfare queens.
Clinton was made aware the American people and the Houses were very much in the majority and very excited about reforming welfare. Still, he vetoed it again and then tried to make the argument he was going to co-opt the argument and reshape welfare reform as he saw fit.
It became very apparent the American taxpayer had, had enough and so had the houses. The pressure became to much and Clinton relented with nary a change to the original welfare reform act.
While he took credit for welfare reform it was never his idea, never became a priority until politically forced.
This was a Newt idea and part of the Contract with America which he shepherded.
Mitt has done nothing like this and I can trust Newt to follow through on his positions.
Welfare Reform, the Balanced Budget and lowered taxes through capital gains tax cut.
Who has a record of performance on imperatives important to all Americans?
Who can perform like that? Especially when they will have a super majority in Congress and a majority in the Senate?
He cannot win over people by his own ideas. Thanks for the article and the link.
Does that mean he salivates when stage lights go up, the debate begins and the lies start??
Yeah, that’s the way I understand it. Romney salivates when he’s about to lie.
I wonder if this wasn't not a cryptic allusion to the LDS and its cultic conditioning of its followers. Only Newt would be clever enough to pull it off.
The problem is the Santorum camp isn’t going to be able to understand words this big.
They should have said Romney is a snob that makes them want to throw up, like, y’know, totally gross, seriously, I mean gag me with a silver spoon.
Maybe they mentioned Pavlov to remind people of Pavlov’s dog to remind people that Romney locked his dog in an “airtight” trunk on the top of his car on a road trip to Canada. Newt works in mysterious ways...
Santorum did a great job of denying Romney delegates in Michigan last night.
“The problem is the Santorum camp isnt going to be able to understand words this big.”
Funniest line I’ve read in a quite a while!
I wish I had saved it or knew how to find it, but I recall several months back reading an article on Freerepublic where Romneys wife said something almost like that. Something to the effect that Mitt tells tales to the point where he believes them himself.
Does anyone else remember that article?
Read my post here at #24 and tell me if you recall having read that article?
Now I wish I read more Romney articles! DJ reads a lot and she has such an excellent memory for facts and references exactly like that. If she read it, she will definitely remember! trisham and hoosiermama, too.
OH my goodness!
That was my one and only state and night for Santorum. Short lived.
Let’s hope that Newt isn’t holding his breath.
It’s over. On to Super Newtsday!
I’ve been searching for the article, but I can’t find anything. I hope that DJ has a better outcome.
Yes they are.
The Romney Economy
Yes, the last few paragraphs are chilling. What does Romney care about? Money and power.
