With his presidential aspirations riding on support in the Deep South, NewtGingrich opened his final one-week dash to the crucial Georgia primary on Wednesday with a states' rights plea laden with racial symbolism.
His setting was the chamber of Georgia’s House of Representatives. From the rostrum, Gingrich told lawmakers that he would fight for a “very strong” states'-rights platform at the RepublicanParty’s national convention this summer in Tampa,Fla.
“I want to return power back home to an extraordinary degree,” said Gingrich, a former U.S. House speaker who represented Georgia in Congress for 20 years.
For generations, politicians in the South used states' rights to justify racial segregation and, in the 19th century, slavery.
Gingrich, whose labeling of PresidentObama as a “food stamp president” was the centerpiece of his TV advertising last month in the South Carolina primary, steered clear of any overt discussion of race on Monday. But in public remarks, he often follows his “food stamp” line about the nation’s first black president by lamenting poverty and despair among African Americans.
In his speech on the Georgia House floor, Gingrich gave one example of why the U.S. government needs to shift power to the states: A bureaucratic tangle of 185 offices dealing with federal assistance to low-income Americans.
“I’d like to block-grant that into one office and send you the money and say you need to figure out how you’re going to cope with helping people in Georgia who need help,” Gingrich told the lawmakers, who reacted with a round of applause.
Gingrich has named Texas Gov.Rick Perry to lead a “Tenth Amendment project” to review state’s-rights issues in anticipation of drafting the party platform.
“Gov. Perry will be looking to you for lots of ideas that we can take both to the national convention and write into law,”....

I lived in Chicago years ago - had to hide my slight southern accent as the Chicago types were hateful and scornful toward all Southerners. These types never see their own bigotry. It's the first earmark of a liberal...
But Newt's going to have to win at least one state outside the south if he's going to be viewed as a serious contender.
Right now, he is campaigning to win his home state of Georgia and hoping for an upset victory in neighboring Tennessee.
I sincerely wish the prospects were better, but right now the realistic choices are Santorum or Romney.

Newt and Perry would make a superb President/VP ticket if there are any hopes to revive the Economic and Constitutional Rights of the United States.
Though I hold no thoughts that Newt would tap Perry.

Romney’s positions and that of Newt’s are pretty well known.
One has acted them out and the other has not.
One is opportunist for the purpose of advancement, the other is a serious intellect and strategist whose performance in the past I very much agreed with.
In fact, I had to educate our new local host his 2nd day on the air. He made the unfortunate mistake of Praising Bill Clinton for Welfare Reform, the Balanced Budget and lowered taxes through capital gains tax cut.
Brian Sussman made an unfortunate mistake of trying to give Clinton credit on the one hand while demonstrating his errors on the other.
I called in and thanked him for deciding to become a full time talk jock but I wanted to correct his view about Clintons legacy. Not to be contrarian or take away from him or Bill Clinton but they were just plain wrong and I asked I might quickly demonstrate why Clinton deserved zero Credit and when I am through who really should get the credit, without insulting anyone.
So I quickly went through them:
Contract with America, who wrote it? Newt Gingrich was his reply.
That is correct.
Now to clear the record I’ll go through them in the order I think is most powerful:
Capital Gains tax cut-
Was thought of as a response to Clintons raising of taxes and as a tool to keep the investment community well, inevesting and spurring additional investment. That was a Contract with America initiative and a well thought out position by Newt.
There was some horse trading and Newt gave away something no one really cared about to get it and the economy kept going with the result being unemployment dropping from 7% to 4% in a few short years.
The host immediately got the idea, said he would probably rephrase his thought at the end and asked me to continue.
Balanced Budget -
Again, Newt gave Clinton some bases that were already on the secondary list, devised by Dick Cheney, as alternatives for closure. Clinton got a win for his anti-military wing, we gave away something we didn’t care about and got what we wanted.
Welfare Reform -
this was the end goal all along and with a new Republican majority Congress it easily passed the House only to have Clinton veto it.
No problem. The President has the bully pulpit but was embroiled in a few distractions at the time which made it possible for Newt, Dole and few others to take their case directly to the American people who were sick of welfare queens.
Clinton was made aware the American people and the Houses were very much in the majority and very excited about reforming welfare. Still, he vetoed it again and then tried to make the argument he was going to co-opt the argument and reshape welfare reform as he saw fit.
It became very apparent the American taxpayer had, had enough and so had the houses. The pressure became to much and Clinton relented with nary a change to the original welfare reform act.
While he took credit for welfare reform it was never his idea, never became a priority until politically forced.
This was a Newt idea and part of the Contract with America which he shepherded.
Mitt has done nothing like this and I can trust Newt to follow through on his positions.
Welfare Reform, the Balanced Budget and lowered taxes through capital gains tax cut.
Who has a record of performance on imperatives important to all Americans?
Who can perform like that? Especially when they will have a super majority in Congress and a majority in the Senate?
Got Newt?
I don’t think Governor Perry wants VP but I bet he could have it were he to ask.
They scare people with lies and absurd claims. The Democratic Party wouldn't want their groomed voters garnering any hint of freedom and success -- they shut it down with "trigger" racism words to blind them and plug their ears from the truth that all Democratic controlled cities have rotted from "progressive" social justice politics.
I’d like to see Gingrich choose an outsider/anti establishment type.
The 1965 Civil Rights Act still controls redistricting and voting bills in Texas (S.C., etc) and why Texas is dealing with the U.S. Supreme Court on our state’s redistricting (got 4 new Congressional seats due to people fleeing to Texas from places like Chicago and L.A.) and why our primary date is in limbo (now thought to be scheduled for May 29 with 155 delegates at stake).
AND
Our Voter Photo I.D. Bill has been languishing on U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder’s desk for his approval.

I could actually see him asking Perry and I think they’d make a good team, although the only negative would probably be that they are both white males from Southern/Southwestern states and it seems to be all the rage now to require “diversity” on a ticket.
The only diversity I could see, however, would be Gingrich picking somebody like Susana Martinez or maybe Rubio (although Rubio has turned out to be more of a Romney person), rather than the geographical diversity of someone from a northeast state, because frankly I can’t think of a single serious conservative from up there. Somebody correct me if I’m wrong...maybe I’m just being biased!
My gut tells me that there is an increasing likelihood that Newt could very well pick Perry as his VP. That might work well and Perry would be a much better pick than any of the other candidates or dropouts.

I don't know if the regional thing will be as important -- gracious! look at Clinton-Gore (also both white males from the South -- though from the opposite political spectrum).
The issue of the Hispanic vote is considerable but mostly their vote will be based on the programs and platform Newt advances.
Dennis Michael Lynch on Fox and Friends this morning who has put together (got shot filming "They Coming to America") a documentary that proves the Adminstration is lying about the border. He said you would not believe the danger there -- who is getting across (Middle Easterners), the crime, etc. (as Perry worked so hard to get out -- "Seal the border, kill off the Cartels and no amnesty.")

The Dems want it this way. It means the only way a woman on welfare can be sure she is getting every dollar she can get, is to be on good terms with the Dem precinct captain (who will have complete info on each and every one of those 185 offices and the hundreds of forms), and being a Dem activist.

He says in the Fox and Friends interview they will be getting information out next month (March). Apparently he's been getting death threats from things he's posted about it on the web.

Susana Martinez is a competent, popular governor and wouldn’t be “pandering.” Why do we use this word only in reference to candidates with Spanish last names?
I live in Florida and I can tell you that Rubio has also been very good and is a fantastic speaker. I was puzzled by his support for Romney, except that Romney supported him when nobody else but the Tea Party did, and perhaps this was payback.
If we’re going for diversity on ethnic grounds, I’d say West or one of the Hispanic-descent governors, perhaps Fortuno - except that we’d have to add the enye - n with the swirly thing over it to indicate that the sound is n-ye - to our keyboards! I can’t think of any Asians who aren’t Dems, alas.
For geographical diversity, I can’t think of anybody in the Northeast. Maybe somebody from the West, such as California?
I believe the discussion was picking a candidate for diversity - which is political affirmative action. Both Rubio and Martinez are admirable but unseasoned in National politics. Allen West is superb - but a very new face in the arena.
Truly, any one of the above would be far superior to Biden and the freshman fiasco....but we really need an experienced VP pick to take on Biden’s bluster.
I’m starting to cozy right up to Gingrich/Perry 2012.

Biden is an idiot, which is why he has completely disappeared from the national scene. Anybody could win against him, and for that reason, I doubt that he would even be allowed to get out of Blair House. He was just picked because he was an older white guy and it was thought that this would encourage older white guys to vote for Bambi.
I don’t know who I’d like Gingrich to pick. I think Perry would be a safe choice; if Rubio were interested, he’d be a good choice; and among women, I don’t know. Brewer came out heavily in favor of Romney (who has NO immigration plan, which is supposedly the big deal in her state) so I don’t think she’d be the one.
I guess it’s up for grabs.
The A-Team

But the Hispanic vote was running heavily pro-Gingrich here in Florida until Rubio killed it with his quasi-endorsement of Romney. As I say, this may have been payback to Romney for having supported him, and maybe Rubio didn’t realize how important this would be, since he’s very new in the job.
The October surprise could be dumping Biden for Hillary. Stranger things have happened.
However, Hillary looks burned out. IMHO I believe she has decided that her First Lady gig was the most power she has ever had. Her stint as SOS has been less than stellar and thankless; having to kiss Muslim butt on behalf of BO. She’s due to resign and I think she will not welcome any more hard work.

Also, the 10th Amendment Division™ appeared to have just about reached the end of its rope. After roughly two years of steady discussion and occasionally intense debate re the 10th Amendment, the group seemed to want to hibernate. I realize it's difficult to maintain focus and sustain the energy necessary to keep a topic front and center. Human nature I suppose. Hopefully enough enthusiasm can be regenerated for what may be the single most viable option for resurrecting our republic. We'll see...

I’m a Southerner and I work in Chicago, but I live 30 miles west. Where I work and where I live are like two different planets. You are right about Chicagoans: They are some of the most intolerant bigots there are, and not just towards Southerners, though they do have a profound passion in their hatred of Southerners. But where I live, 30 miles west of Chicago, it’s quite different. Still Yankeeland, but nowhere near as bad as Chicago. I’m headed back to Dixie when I retire in four years.

Santorum is crashing and burning, and it’s no one’s fault but his own. I am all for Newt, but I’m a realist and I don’t see him seriously challenging Obomney during the primaries. Our only choice — and hope — is for a brokered convention.
I agree that Hillary has done badly as SOS (basically, Bambi has humiliated her time and again by simply leaving her out of the loop - and she didn’t have enough clout or chutzpah to stand up for herself). She gives the impression of being tired, and I find it hard to believe that she’d be much of a draw now.
The premise (I guess) is that people from the south are racist. This is silly on the face of it. But when you consider how many people originally from the north (where ever that may be) now live in the south (and remember only people FROM the South are racist), how well would Gingrich’s racist message actually play in the South (where ever that may be)?

I did notice that you were gone and thought we’d lost you. The 10th is an important enough issue, considering the way it’s being trampled by the Demwits, to be kept alive, discussed, and defended.
I don't think the Dims have acted alone in the trampling of the 10th and other inconvenient parts of our Constitution. Assorted RINO's and other miscreants are just as culpable. The one thing I feel very strongly about is that for Americans to regain anything resembling original intent of the Founders, We The People AND the states will have to TAKE BACK the powers originally bequeathed the people and the states to exercise. IMHO the states have a much bigger hammer to use against the federales in that effort. For things to get back to anything approaching the original design, DC will have to be pummelled into submission to the sovereigns - that's us. The states willing to flex that muscle on our behalf against leviathan will need all the support we can give them.
It seems simple to me. The states are in the best position to help us restore our freedoms and liberties stolen by the feral government.
Funny how I never see any mention of how the communists have used the unions and the civil rights movement to infiltrate every facet of our existence, and will not stop stealing money via the electoral process until they decide to take it all at gunpoint.
