Breaking : Ex-Sen. Bob Kerrey to run for his former Nebraska seat
Boston Herald ^

OMAHA, Neb. — Former Sen. Bob Kerrey is reversing course and says he’ll seek the Democratic nomination for the Nebraska seat he once held.

Kerrey’s announcement Wednesday comes just weeks after he publicly rejected a run to replace retiring Democratic Sen. Ben Nelson. It’s also just two days before Nebraska’s candidate filing deadline.

The 1992 presidential candidate and former Nebraska governor previously said not running was in his family’s best interest.

Kerrey’s announcement gives new hope to national Democrats desperate to stop Republicans from netting four Senate seats this fall and regaining control of the chamber.

But it’s also sure to create state party friction. Fellow Democrat Chuck Hassebrook stepped into the race after Kerrey bowed out and gave up a University of Nebraska regent seat he’s held for nearly 18 years.

That thread was citing some “sources” that he was considering. He’s just made the announcement confirming.

Yesterday there was an article on FReeRepublic that indicated that Nebraska might be the tie-breaker for electoral college votes for 0bama to get re-elected. I suspect that getting Kerrey to run is one way to try to get the dems out to vote here, to give 0bama the best chance. It seems like that would be the only reason for Kerrey to run, because otherwise it will be a big waste of money for the dems.

LOL! This guy is back?
I remember when he was the laughingstock about whom they said in Nebraska:
“He talks like Ronald Reagan and votes like Teddy Kennedy.”

The RAT party bosses can be very "persuasive" behind closed doors. Shades of when he retired from this seat in the first place and the GOP rejoiced and figured they had it in the bag (open seat in strongly Republican Nebraska where very few Dems hold office), then former Governor Ben Nelson jumped in out of nowhere.

The Dems played similar games in NJ when Frank Lautenberg "unretired" so the GOP wouldn't pick a seat that otherwise would have gone to them.

The frustrating thing is the GOP party officials are never able to play this game. Look at all the times the IL GOP begged Jim Edgar to "unretire" and salvage their chances in a statewide race. The worst part is he claimed to be seriously "considering it" then turned them down at the 11th hour.

He hasn’t lived in NE for years. NE voters won’t vote for him.

Democrat Chuck, said he will not step for the senate run, because Kerrey just decided to run for the same seat. I bet obama will change his mind.

Kerry coming back from New York or wherever he is, might backfire like it did for Tom Osborne. We had our current governor Heineman running and Osborne came back to Nebraska saying he was going to run. He lost. I like Osborne and felt he was treated really badly. but for the most part, Heineman is a good governor. If we can stop people from cheating, Kerrey will lose.

I can see them doing New York Salsa commercials about Kerrey. Plus he has that Viet Nam issue.

dang he is not aging well..

does he plan to move to Nebraska?? or stay in NY and pretend to be in the state he will represent?

that was one of Rick’s problems here in PA. he lived in Virginia and said he lived in PA. and didn’t...

they are all crooks in Congress, can’t trust a one of them..

Well the GOP needs this seat after the obvious Dem led stunt pulled last night with Olympia Snowe, its no coincidence, Snowe’s first interview after her decision to stand down is with Andrea Mitchell of MSNBC....hmmmmm.

Knowing how chummy Senaturds can be, maybe Olympia Snowe tipped Kerrey off that she’s quitting and now he thinks the dems have a better chance of holding the Senate.

How does he even meet residency requirements ? He high-tailed it out of the state in NE in 2001 to go run a Stalinist “College” in NYC.

Following the Lautenberg practice - which, for all I know, is patterned after an even earlier louse.

Bob Kerrey will play the same game that worked for Rahm Emmanuel in Chicago, claim his Nebraska roots, while he has probably been bribed with another “Nebraska kickback,” as did Ben Nelson when he compromised his ethics and integrity voting for Obamacare. I hope the resolve of the folks in Nebraska with whom I once lived amongst and admired can stand by their independent and conservative principles!
