In the wake of the revelation that the Department of Defense has spend $750,000 on a soccer field for detainees at Guantanamo Bay, Kansas Republican Rep. Tim Huelskamp pressed Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta on his knowledge of the expenditure at a Budget Committee hearing on Wednesday.
Panetta denied knowledge of the project.
Did you know that apparently federal taxpayers are paying for a $750,000 soccer field at Gitmo? Is that something that the Department of Defense knew about? Huelskamp asked Panetta.
Im sorry, what was that? Panetta replied.
A $750,000 soccer field at Gitmo that was just announced by the Department of Defense is that something you were aware of? Huelskamp reiterated.
No, I wasnt, the defense secretary said.
On Tuesday, Fox News first reported that the military was just wrapping up construction on a $750,000 soccer field for detainees at Guantanamo Bay.

I’ll bet that if we knew the half of what goes on down there, we’d be looking for a lot of tall branches and plenty of short ropes.
I feel so safe with this numb nuts at the helm.
The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
Tar and feathers would also work well.
When will they learn 0bama and his crew do what THEY want. Idiot!
Here in California, we’ve studied the art of taring, and after doing so at the La Brea Tar Pits, we’ve come to the conclusion you don’t need feathers.
Fiscal Conservatives don’t Tar and Feather. We just tar. LOL
Not to give Panetta a pass, but if was just recently completed....it probably was approved before he took over as Sec of Defense
He probably still would have approved it since his job is basically to implement Obama tear down of our readiness and military power
He denies knowing about this, but if the guards made the detainees wear panties on their head he would have known about that for sure.
You are right! They kill our people and we build them a soccer field, how nice.
After the dumb reporter asked Panetta did he know about the soccer field, why didn’t the reporter follow up with ‘Mr. Panetta, can you tell us who DID know?”
Panetta...ever notice how Leon is always on the verge of crying...what a constipated nitwit!!!
And when did they know?
This wasn’t in the airline magazine so Frequent-Flyer-Leon couldn’t know about it.
I’m not letting him off the hook, he should know what is going on at Gitmo for sure.
Cut his budget 10%. That’d get him paying attention to crap like this.
$750,000 for a soccer field?
i’ve got an acre behind my house... mow it and you can use it for free
what costs $750,000?
Exactly. Whoever asked this question seemed more interested in getting Panetta off the hook, than actually getting the truth. Why would anyone not follow up with other questions?
The electronic fence, moat, and all those crocs...
The fence looks pretty expensive, but to get it done the Marines would have to ask the CBs to come over and do it, and the CBs aren’t cheap ...
Yep—using hussein and holders excuses and lies. “I didn’t know anything and it’s not my fault”.
Actually it wouldn’t. He’s a democrat and wants to cut the defense budget much more. He and Obama don’t give a sh-t about our defense and see the Defense Dept only as a source of funds for their socialist programs

Does the CEO of your company know when something is bought for under 500 dollars ? Doubt it....Panetto runs a multiple billion dollar agency....I am not surprised he was unaware about a soccer field being built
There are LOTS of other issues Panetto should have his feet held over the fire for.....way more important things
It does piss me off these vermin get to use our hard earned tax dollars for relaxation , but I guess would could drop them off in the middle of the Alantic from 10,ooo ft to play with the sharks!!!
