In the wake of the revelation that the Department of Defense has spend $750,000 on a soccer field for detainees at Guantanamo Bay, Kansas Republican Rep. Tim Huelskamp pressed Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta on his knowledge of the expenditure at a Budget Committee hearing on Wednesday.

Panetta denied knowledge of the project.

“Did you know that apparently federal taxpayers are paying for a $750,000 soccer field at Gitmo? Is that something that the Department of Defense knew about?” Huelskamp asked Panetta.

“I’m sorry, what was that?” Panetta replied.

“A $750,000 soccer field at Gitmo that was just announced by the Department of Defense — is that something you were aware of?” Huelskamp reiterated.

“No, I wasn’t,” the defense secretary said.

On Tuesday, Fox News first reported that the military was just wrapping up construction on a $750,000 soccer field for detainees at Guantanamo Bay.

Exactly. Whoever asked this question seemed more interested in getting Panetta off the hook, than actually getting the truth. Why would anyone not follow up with other questions?

The fence looks pretty expensive, but to get it done the Marines would have to ask the CBs to come over and do it, and the CBs aren’t cheap ...

Yep—using hussein and holders excuses and lies. “I didn’t know anything and it’s not my fault”.

Actually it wouldn’t. He’s a democrat and wants to cut the defense budget much more. He and Obama don’t give a sh-t about our defense and see the Defense Dept only as a source of funds for their socialist programs

-——I’m not letting him off the hook, he should know what is going on at Gitmo for sure.-——

Does the CEO of your company know when something is bought for under 500 dollars ? Doubt it....Panetto runs a multiple billion dollar agency....I am not surprised he was unaware about a soccer field being built

There are LOTS of other issues Panetto should have his feet held over the fire for.....way more important things

It does piss me off these vermin get to use our hard earned tax dollars for relaxation , but I guess would could drop them off in the middle of the Alantic from 10,ooo ft to play with the sharks!!!
