Will Obama hand over Koran-burning soldiers to Islamic court?
The US Report ^ | Feb. 29, 2012 | Chris Carter

Posted on 02/29/2012 8:44:11 PM PST by FatMax

An Afghan government website has reported that NATO officials have promised to bring the American soldiers responsible for burning the Koran to justice in an open trial.

The website of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Government Media and Information Center (an official government site) states: "NATO officials promised to meet Afghan nation’s [sic] demand of bringing to justice, through an open trial, those responsible for the incident and it was agreed that the perpetrators of the crime be brought to justice as soon as possible."

If this is true, and we do not know yet if it is, handing over US servicemembers to a sharia court in Afghanistan could be one of the most unconscionable acts ever conducted by our government.

Obama reportedly sent a three-page letter to Afghan president Hamid Karzai, but the White House won't fully disclose the letter. A small portion of Obama's letter - suspiciously (and perhaps deliberately) ambiguous - is floating around stating "We will take the appropriate steps to avoid any recurrence, to include holding accountable those responsible."

What does the president mean, holding the soldiers accountable to military law? They didn't do anything wrong. If they did, show us what code they violated. Or does he mean sharia law? Desecrating the Koran, especially by non-Muslims could result in the death penalty. But American soldiers are held only to US law, not Islamic law. Besides, depending on what jurist you talk to, burning of Korans is entirely permissible if the books are damaged - which the Korans in question were, at the hands of Muslims.

Of course, the White House and Pentagon are not answering questions. But this is nothing new for the president who proclaims...

General Sir Charles James Napier, GCB (10 August 1782 – 29 August 1853), was a general of the British Empire and the British Army's Commander-in-Chief in India, notable for conquering the Sindh Province in what is now Pakistan.

General Charles Napier when dealing with sutte, the Indian custom of burning a widow on her husband’s funeral pyre: “You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours.”

"the human mind is never better disposed to gratitude and attachment than when softened by fear." - General Charles Napier

Perhaps we need some new customs of our own when dealing with a few hundred troublemakers who incite others into a murderous frenzy.

If he DARES to do this, the military should go into full mutiny. Period.

So very happy I did NOT serve under this pagan and anti-American President. Just considering turning these soldiers over suggests we ought NOT have a single Military man -woman -or ? serving in Trashcanistan. The 0— are you listening congressman Jim Moron? can go to He__ . The Democrat in the White House claims his apologies have saved lives— I prefer what Congressman Allen West has said as much more reasoned and TRUE.

Recall the dust-up a few months ago re: Status of Forces Agreement between Afghan government and NATO? AS I recall, these agreements cover exactly this status.

I don’t see the Islamo-Fascists apologizing for murdering thousands of Americans on 9/11. I don’t see the Islamo-Fascists apologizing for their collaboration with Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. I don’t see the Islamo-Fascists apologizing for the way they’ve slaughtered Jews, Coptic Christians, and Iraqi Catholics.

Puh-leeze.

Next time somebody gets the bright idea to “nation build” in a country committed to the 7th century, send 30,000 laptops with a good internet connection, instead of 30,000 troops.

Good one

The US Gov’t is the most sharia-compliant organization in the world. It does more to promote deference to Islam and compliance with Muslim sensibilities than Osama Bin Laden ever hoped to achieve.

Sad, but becoming true.

Nope. Because he isn’t that stupid.

I agree. He's a real box of rocks on some things, but he knows what would get him run out of town on a rail.

Excellent point. I have used that as a reference to Afghanistan in the past, but never knew the general's name.

Likely try them in a military court there but beyond an article 15, I can’t see anything reasonable.

We're going to criminalize an honest mistake?

If these soldiers are turned over to Afghan authority, then it's an impeachable offense IMO.

If I were POTUS, the CG in Afghanistan would have been relieved, and I would have repeated the response of Gen. McAuliffe to the Germans at the Battle of the Bulge:

Nuts!
