Cokie and Steve Roberts: Why tide has turned in favor of gay marriage [retread zot]
Erie Times-News ^ | 3/1/12 | Cokie & Steve Roberts

John Bohanan opposed a same-sex marriage law in the Maryland legislature last year, and the measure lost. But in February, the Democratic lawmaker decided to change his vote, and with his help, the bill narrowly passed.

"Once I began to look at this through the eyes of my own kids and other young people, it became pretty clear," the father of four sons, ages 17 to 21, told the Washington Post. "You want them to have love, and if that's how they want to express it, you want them to be able to do it openly."

Wade Kach, a conservative Republican, backed the marriage measure after a hearing at which gay couples talked poignantly about forming families of their own. "As a pro-life Republican, I believe it's my responsibility to make sure children are taken care of," he explained. "I left that hearing a changed person."

Bohanan and Kach reflect a national tide that is running swiftly in favor of gay marriage....

Last year, for the first time, national polls showed a majority of Americans favoring same-sex marriage. Statistician Nate Silver, writing in the New York Times, estimates that support for the concept is growing by 4 percentage points every year. By the November election, he forecasts, 56 percent will favor legalizing gay unions and only 40 percent will oppose them....

...."As more gays and lesbians come out of the closet, more parents, children, siblings, friends, neighbors and co-workers know or love someone who is gay. Because few people favor discrimination against those they know and love, every gay person coming out of the closet creates more supporters of gay equality."...

"same argument...pedophiles"

I've expressed those same sentiments. According to their logic, if a man wants to marry his daughter, and she's all for it, why should we stop it? If he wants to have 3, 10, 100 wives, why should we stop it if they all agree? If a man wants to marry his dog, the dog won't disagree. And since it would make the man happy (and happiness is the sole determinant), why should we stop it? Sheer lunacy.

“I’m proud to say in my state of West Virginia gay marriage is still opposed by nearly a 70/30 margin. So it will NEVER be the law here, unless it’s shoved down our throats by the Supreme Court like abortion was.”

It will be, eventually.

Here’s why:

It cost them more than $50,000 in fertility treatments and sperm donations before Tina became pregnant -- a very tangible commitment to family values.

This is a commitment to family values? You can't be serious, Cokie?

Wow. This is a man with no core values who can't tell the difference between an emotional appeal and reality. Someone should sit him down and let him hear the stories of ex-homosexuals. Perhaps he'd leave that hearing a changed person again.

Accepting the homosexual lie is all about emotional blackmail. Once you get beyond the tears, however, it's all ugliness.

Homosexuality is just partner-assisted masturbation with all the benefits that masturbation produces.

Glad to see someone else around here understands this. Most people think linearly so they think it only gets worse.

I wonder when the next phase of the cycle starts. . .

Why else would a “conservative” back the liberal dream?

That would be a good question to ask Mitt Romney. He was just about the first Republican to surrender on this issue. After jury-rigging the whole gay marriage fiasco in Massachusetts, he has flip-flopped back publicly to opposing it.

I strongly doubt that any sexually-embarrassing photos of Mitt Romney exist.

Sorry about the double post. I realized that I meant “jerry-rigged”, not “jury-rigged” and tried to stop the send. Apparently, I was too late.

Brainwashing is achieving its goal. How can lawmakers be so dense? They’re listening to their brain-washed childdren? A few tears from a group of people who, when no one is watching, would revile you, is enough to convince a conservative? BS!

Where are the stories of children being pressured to be gay? Of people being punished for disagreeing? People being fired? Churches facing hate campaigns? List of voters made public to expose them to harm? This is pure evil, people.

70/30 was the level of opposition in my state (Washington) as well. Look how that turned out.

According to another FR thread and Telegraph(UK), "CNN Founder Ted Turner 'Spends One Week Each Month With A Different Girlfriend'". I imagine the parent quoted in this article thinks it is more important to be happy in bed, even if it is as an elderly man with no real relationships like Ted Turner, than to achieve the peace that comes from following God's will and God's word. I find that incredibly sad for Ted Turner, for the father who sees life through such a shallow lens, and for the poor man's kids who grew up with no moral guidance and no deeper purpose than finding happiness through carnal sensation.

Because many have been conditioned to think that the institution comes from man and thus the state, 40% in a recent poll. This is wonderful for statists and homosexualists. Because if folks think marriage comes from the state, they will accept whatever impossibility the state puts forth as marriage that year, and society can then be manipulated through gubbermental rewards and punishments that already exist concerning gov’t recognition of the institution.

I guess they realize that no matter what the laws state marriage is for a man and a woman. You cannot fool your inner being.

The reason companies pay big money to newspapers, television networks and billboard groups - is because advertising works.

This country has had non-stop free ads run for gay marriage the last fifteen years. The MSM jumped on this one and never let go. Ethics aside, I doubt much human activity could hold out against that type of force.

My concern is - what will they push next?

Next up getting the age of consent lowered so they can prey on younger children.
