Support for same-sex marriage in New Jersey climbs to a new high, 57 - 37 percent, but voters split 48 - 47 percent on whether Gov. Christopher Christie did the right thing in vetoing same- sex marriage legislation, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.
Voters support 67 - 28 percent Gov. Christie's proposal to let them decide the same-sex marriage issue by placing it on the ballot for a November referendum, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University poll finds.
Support for same-sex marriage is 61 - 32 percent among women and 51 - 44 percent among men. White Catholics support the move 52 - 43 percent while white Protestants are opposed 50 - 42 percent. Voters who attend religious services weekly oppose same-sex marriage 54 - 39 percent while those who attend services less frequently support the measure 66 - 29 percent.
Given three options for same-sex couples:
47 percent support same-sex marriage;
34 percent support same-sex civil unions;
13 percent say there should be no legal recognition.
"So the New Jersey State Legislature passed same-sex marriage and Gov. Christopher Christie vetoed it. What's left, for now anyway, is a political issue," said Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.
"The numbers are all over the lot. Voter support for same-sex marriage goes up every time we ask, but about half of them think Christie was right to veto it. By better than 2-1, they like the governor's proposal for a referendum."
"Only a small percentage thinks there should be no legal recognition of same-sex relationships, but a fair number prefer the state's current legalization of civil unions. And they approve Christie's conditional-veto proposal to ensure that civil unions provide enough protection," Carroll added.

The Governors veto must stand and the gay marriage item should not go to a state of voters that think this way.
Yes, it's the left's incremental assault on Western Civilization.
15 years ago, the idea of "Same Sex Marriage" wasn't even on the radar. Now, if you oppose it, you're called a bigot, and standing in the way of "progress".
15 years from now, they'll be using the courts to shut down Churches that don't preform gay marriages.
The people are now confused and worn down.
“15 years from now, they’ll be using the courts to shut down Churches that don’t preform gay marriages.”
For some reason, I think they’ll leave the mosques alone.
Why the sudden spate of articles from the freaks & perverts in the MSM concerning the country’s sudden enthusiasm for homosexual unions?
Muslims are 50% homosexuals—sodomy is not condemned in the Koran—in fact, it is the main recreation of these women haters. That is why homosexuals ignore Muslim infiltration into this country-—they are for the same thing-—free access to boys.
Probably not (liars). The fact is MSM/Hollywood is doing a better job swaying peoples minds than conservative media/religious institutions. Younger people don't care and the older generation who does is dying off.
Obviously, they struggle to keep it off the ballot because they know that the voters would shoot it down. And if it can't win in Massachusetts,it can't win ANYWHERE.
This is just typical leftist agitprop.
In the privacy of the voting booth however, one is able to be honest and that is why no pro-homosexual law has ever been approved by plebiscite—and never will.
The mental image of homosex—especially between men causes a natural biological wave of revulsion in normal people—all the indoctrination and PC terrorist tactics cannot make a bull a cow.
You’re right. The tax exemption of churches make them vulnerable to all kinds of federal attack.
Because they believe any propaganda they think will help their cause is “news fit to print”. If a news story is not turning out the way they want it, it simply doesn’t get written in the first place.
The Catholic Church stands strong and courageous on the marriage issue. But there are an awful lot of lapsed CINOs in New Jersey.
Religious liberty in America was sure great while it lasted. We Christians will be returning to the catacombs soon.
Hope both of you are right.
RE: Muslims are 50% homosexualssodomy is not condemned in the Koran
SODOMY IS A SIN PUNISHABLE BY DEATH IN MUSLIM COUNTRIES. CHECK IT OUT.
Even in a supposedly moderate Muslim country like Malaysia, sodomy is CONDEMNED.
When the powers that be wanted to destroy the life of a rising star in the Malaysian Politics , they accused him of -— SODOMY.
In many Moslem countries pederasty is regularly practiced sort of under the radar. Military who have been to Afghanistan all know this. One of the reasons (there were many, many more) the Hindus hated the Moslem conquerors was the Moslems’ habit of pederasty. Not all of them certainly, but it was prevalent. Still is in many Moslem countries.

I'm with skeeter on this one. But we shall see. Of course Dems mess with all kinds of elections and voting, more and more all the time.
They’ve waged an effective campaign via the youth, media, and demonization of Christians. They’ve made it a civil rights issue, and if you are opposed, you are called an intolerant bigot. People cower at that in today’s PC world. The only solution is a federal marriage amendment.
Most of the churches above ground are pretty worthless, that’s for sure. They just don’t care that much about the fraying of the moral fabric.
Bogus poll. If you doubt this, just suggest to the Gaystapo that they put it to a vote of the citizens of New Jersey and you'll see how much they believe their fake "polls."
It’s probably a faulty / fixed poll.
In any event, I’m certain the “Bradley effect” is in full force.
People simply get beaten down by the Democrat “mainstream” newsrooms into submission to political correctness.
>> The people are now confused and worn down.
Why so many people wish to grant the govt the authority to regulate marriage is beyond me.
This is not your grandmother’s govt, people.
That's an excellent point.
It's like what the lying Democrats do with the census - - "We just know this district has 5,000 homeless and illegal people in the shadows so why bother counting? Just add 5,000 to the total."
"Why count votes? We know what people want."
The purpose of fake polls like this one is: 1) to continue beating down people until they submit to political correctness, and 2) to con the more naive politicians into liberal votes. It's ths Democrat "mainstream" newsrooms' high tech spinoff of the Diamond Tactic.
I agree; the lying is completely out of control. They aren’t even trying to hide that fact anymore. The congressional “contraception” hearings were proof enough of that.
