"Uncommitted" Dick Morris - a deadlocked convention makes the case to back Mitt Romney
Live Dash Transcript ^ | March 1, 2012 | Dick Morris on Greta Van Susteren

Posted on 03/02/2012 1:00:48 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

March 1, 2012 Livedash transcript [only place I could find it]: Dick Morris followed Greta Van Susteren's interview with Newt Gingrich -- Morris transcript begins at 00:12:28 (it's rough and Greta chimes in but it's mostly Morris). Emphasis mine.

[snip]

00:13:24 The thing that I am focused on in michigan, though, and I am very serious about it and grossly upset by it is that romney won michigan by a huge margin among the republicans and the independents.

00:13:37 It was only that 1 voter out of 10 was a democrat and the democrats voted for santorum 3-1.

00:13:45 There were 100,000 democrats who came out to the polls in michigan who backed santorum.

00:13:52 That doesn't happen just by accident that.

00:13:54 Happens because they were pulled out by the uaw and the democratic party.

00:13:58 I will tell you, greta i am not for romney and I am not for santorum and I am not for gingrich.

00:14:05 I am uncommitted.

00:14:06 But I will be darned with barack obama is going to tell me who the republican candidate ought to be.

00:14:11 If he says that he is for santorum, which is effectively what he did because he's easy to beat, I think we should all take account of that.

00:14:20 the only thing I will say in senator santorum's defense is that he got cheated in iowa.

00:14:28 He got iowa, but he didn't get to do the victory speech.

00:14:32 I guess, you know, while there may have been mischief as you suggest, democrats voting for santorum, I think it's disheartening to sort of, not a big deal, one delegate.

00:14:43 But when you work your heart out and you think you got cheated and even mike cox, a romney supporter, said he thought it wasn't fair to santorum.

00:14:53 One delegate, but it's -- you know, it's not fun.

00:14:56 >> It's a more important issue here.

00:14:59 These proportional representation primary, 54% of the delegates are chosen by proportional representation.

00:15:08 46 Are winner take all.

00:15:09 If santorum loses almost every single primary in the north, midwest and the west and gingrich and he divide up the south, which I think will probably happen, I think gingrich will win georgia and santorum will win tennessee and oklahoma and romney will win all the other states.

00:15:26 But if that happens and romney loses one or two of those northern states, this thing becomes deadlocked.

00:15:33 And we go to the convention with romney with 100 votes short, 1100 delegates and santorum 400, gingrich, 4 hundred and ron paul, 2 hundred and we have to wait for september 1 for a nominee.

00:15:47 That would be a catastrophe if he felt the best argument I have ever seen for voting for romney -- and I am because I like santorum's issue positions -- it is clear that barack obama and the democratic party are dying to run against santorum and scared to death against running against romney.

00:16:05 That's very persuasive to me.

00:16:08 is there any way that we have said the speaker of the house, newt gingrich if he wins georgia, does he have wind in his sail?

00:16:18 Is he back in the game?

00:16:20 He hasn't won since south carolina.

00:16:22 >> He is back in the game because there is a real chance of this whole thing deadlocking and becoming destructive to the republican party.

00:16:28 If he wins georgia, I think he will probably win mississippi.

00:16:32 He will probably win alabama.

00:16:34 He has a decent shot in louisiana.

00:16:36 He has south carolina.

00:16:38 He might do very well in north carolina.

00:16:41 And that might give him 300 delegates, not enough to win.

00:16:45 You need 1144.

00:16:46 But if he gets 3 hundred and paul gets 2 hundred and santorum gets 400, they could block romney from a scmairjt that could kill our chances because we will be fighting over this darn thing until september 1.

00:17:00 The convention is late this year.

00:17:03 It's august 27.

00:17:04 And if we don't get a nominee by may or june, we can kiss our chances against obama goodbye. .....

I will write in Sarah Palin if mitt is the nominee... ON MY SACRED HONOR! Even Rush will not be able to sway me... and if mitt gets the nod... Rush will try. Sorry El Rushbo... many of us will vote... but we will write in our choice for president if mitt the commie is our choice.

I SLAM the phone down when toe sucker’s people call for $$$$$$

They haven't called me for quite some time :).

Now the GOP is calling. I tell them what I think about how they've handled things and that I will not give them money (I give my opinion immediately upon hearing who's calling) that I will give to the Republican Governor's Association and to candidates of my choosing but NOT to them.

The GOP thinks they can isolate the base in that frog pot; keep hitting the conservatives running and take them out one by one with their cycle of praise to divide and conquer, attack and then ignore or dismiss with contempt and then describe as flailing, employ news blackouts and eventually decry them as spoilers who will get Obama reelected.

But we don’t have to buy their line of bs, follow their lead or listen to their lies.

You sure convinced me. Mitt, Mitt, Mitt! Go Mitt! Mitt may be flip-flopping, anti-conservative scum, but at least he’s our scum!

(Now I’m going to crawl away and be sick...)

Why? If we have a late selection for a candidate, it narrows down the rats time to destroy them.

I'd rather give them a moving target they can't lock on to until it's too late.

They are going to have billions in their war chest to destroy opponents. Why even give them a target?

The fact is, people will vote on gas prices, groceries, home values and the perceived economy, not the one the leftist failures try to sell them.

Obama's a goner when this happens.

This is why we defeat snippymcmittcare now. The winner of the primary is the next president.

I am not a fan of Romney. (Cain was my man). But, I will tell you what I say to other cranky freepers and the trolls that populate the site, “If you cannot make a distinction between Romney and Obama, you should face the distinct possiblity that you are either intellectually incapable or volitionally unwilling to make distinctions”.

Vote out the Kenyan Communist!

Under no conditions will I vote for Romney, none.

DITTO. If 0bama wins re-election, America will continue to have that bottle labeled 'socialism' poured down it's throat, if Romney wins, we still get socialism, but served up in exquisite crystal goblets (with complimentary golden underwear).

Give your head a shake. The only true “distinction” between 0bama and 0Romney is that one has a slightly darker tan than the other.

If you need further qualification, I submit to you the wise words of our Founder:

"Free Republic is a pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun, pro-small government, pro-constitution, pro-liberty site. Governor Romney is none of the above. His record is that of an abortionist, gay rights pushing, gun grabbing, global warming advocating, big government, mandate loving, constitution trampling, flip-flopping liberal progressive with no core values. That and the fact that he is the chief architect and advocate for ObamaCare disqualifies him for any consideration whatsoever on Free Republic as a potential nominee for the presidency."
~ Jim Robinson / 1 November 2011

Happy to be of help in getting your mind right there FRiend.

The time to make that assertion (with which I disagree) is AFTER the primary. Our job is to get rid of Romney, or the Republican party will shove Romneys down our throat in saecula saeculorum.

AFTER the convention, Freepers will split among those who believe that the republic cannot survive another four years of Obama, but can survive four years of Romney; those who believe that there will be a collapse under either, and may as well have the blame where it belongs; and those who believe a collapse may or may not happen under either, but want a true two party system, not a bi-partite one party system based on who's getting the goodies and spending the money alone.

THAT is the time to make the case for Romney as a lesser evil (but still evil), and not a moment before.

You are exactley right if you can’t tell the difference between Romney and Obama you need serious help.

Romney is a good man. So is Rick.Newt well, is the smartest of the bunch.
Any one of these guys I am voting for over Obama without any hesitation.
People are going to find out Mitt is a hell of a lot better than McCain and will side a hell of lot more closer to conservative principals than McCain ever will/would.
Mitt would also be twice the President the last republican president was intellectually and buisness wise.

HUH? What are you smoking? Dole = McCain = Romney.

George W. owned successful oil businesses and a pro baseball team.

Romney destroyed companies for enormous profit and managed the Olympics. The Olympics? I laugh every time this is mentioned. Mr. president, we just moved a tank battalion into Poland. So? Can you do a triple Lutz?

I LOVE Dick Morris, I HATE Dick Morris. I love him when I agree with him, I hate him when I don’t. If you don’t like what he says, just wait .... and he will say what you do like.

Morris is so full of shite I don’t know why I listen to him. His predictions are very often, WRONG. President Hillary?

He is entertaining and convincing. He is also WRONG 50% of the time.
FUDM.

That was hysterical on Greta last night with Morris’ having to keep denying he supported Romney because he kept pushing Romney’s talking points.

I’m convinced the guy is a democrat. For that matter, Morris and Romney both.
