Miami valedictorian could be deported [Obama deports kid, media never mentions administration]

A high school valedictorian with big dreams says her future could be ruined by an immigration nightmare.

And with all her awards, metals and accolades Daniela Pelaez is well on her way.

"I love school. I love education. I'm the valedictorian of my high school," said Pelaez.

Daniela is a senior at North Miami Senior High School where she's in the international baccalaureate program and has a 6.7 grade point average.

"I applied to Yale. I applied to Dartmouth, Duke University, Trinity and Wesley," she said.

But just days before she'll find out if she's been accepted to any of those colleges she may be forced to leave the country.

On March 28th, Daniela and her sister are scheduled be deported back to Columbia.

"I've been here since I was 4, I'm American," she said.

Daniela and her siblings came to America with her parents back in 1991.

Her parents divorced and in 2006 when her mother had to go back to Columbia for medical reasons she was denied access back into the country.

Daniela now lives with her father---who's a resident---but on Monday a judge deciding she and her sister can no longer live here.

More than 3,000 people already signing an online petition to stop Pelaez from being deported.

Daniela's attorney is appealing the court's decision.

Her classmates at North Miami senior High School are rallying in support and plan to walk out of class Friday morning in protest.

“I’ve been here since I was 4, I’m American,” she said.

Absolutely.

A SOUTH American.

"6.7 grade point average?"

“I love school. I love education. I’m the valedictorian of my high school,” said Pelaez.””

Valedictorian of the HIGH SCHOOL? Since when have valedictorians been chosen this early before graduation? Then she’d only be valedictorian of the graduating class anyway.

“”Came here in 1991 at age 4. Graduated high school at age 25! That’s how you get a 6.7.””

You’re faster than the rest of us. Very good.

Well maybe she should apply for citizenship before she applies to Yale. Besides, illegal is illegal. The cost of her education is far more than what other illegal aliens will even cost. I doubt her family is paying out of pocket for this education and will apply for loans. Is it right for other hard working Americans to have to pay for her in any readonable fashion? The answer is clearly no. Besides, I am sure she is American insomuch that she wants an American education that will be highly subsidized. So everyone who seems to point to her as an example as a “good” illegal should open their eyes because they are suckers.

Is she illegal, if a minor while her father’s a legal resident? Not challenging, just asking. Immigration status can get complicated (so they can find a way to rule however they want).

Another thing I don’t get is how she’s already valedictorian when the school year’s not over, but anything’s possible in Miami :)

Importing smart people is hardly a long term solution. The reason we needs these people in the firs place is because our school system sucks. If kids learnt math and science and a more unbiased rendition of history instead of leftist BS we wouldn’t be in this situation. The sooner we start cracking down on schools and firing the people that make up a useless panty waste ciriculum the sooner we don’t have to import talent.

True; and either the student or reporter seems ignorant concerning the list of colleges - “Wesley” probably refers to “Wesleyan”...just saying

Came here in 1991 at age 4. Graduated high school at age 25!

I noticed that too, but a journalist who can't spell "medal" may be expected to garble facts.

I agree with what you are saying but this country has a long history of importing talent.

Einstein and the German rocket scientist for starters.

She should be deported.

She could then attend a US University as a foreign student. After all, that’s the way OBAMBA attended school. She could end up as our second non natural born citizen president.

She couldn't be deported if she wasn't here illegally. The article makes clear she is here illegally.

Another thing I don’t get is how she’s already valedictorian when the school year’s not over, but anything’s possible in Miami :)

LOl! I don't understand how she has a 6.7 GPA or why she is still in HS at age 25 (article says she came here at age 4in 1991).

Weighted GPA

Some high schools, to reflect the varying skill required for different level courses and to discourage students from selecting easy ‘A’s, will give higher numerical grades for difficult courses, often referred to as a weighted GPA. For example, two common conversion systems used in honors and advanced placement courses are:

A = 5 or 4.6
B = 4 or 3.5
C = 3 or 2.1
D = 1
E/F = 0[5]

Some schools use an 8 point scale, although it is uncommon. A: 100-93% B: 92-85% C: 84-76% D: 75-68% F: 67% and below

“I love school. I love education. I’m the valedictorian of my high school,”

But not a word about loving this country.

Deport her.
