Note....this is a PDF file abstract of a talk to be presented at "NETS 2012" (Nuclear and Emerging Technologies for Space), which is to be held on March 21-23.

nunthin` new-
Germans used heavy water in Norway in 1940-41(?)-
Any schoolboy knows that using heavy water with concentrated naturally radioactive minerals cause more fission = more heat
duhhhhhh.

Germans used heavy water in Norway I read a good book about this some time ago. "Eleven against the A-Bomb", I think.
Was about the group of Norweigan Resistance who worked to destroy the Nazi stocks of Heavy Water. Good Stuff, would make a good movie, if Hollywood would just tell the story and not "improve" on it.

In other news, a cure for cancer appears to be “just around the corner”.

"Any schoolboy knows that using heavy water with concentrated naturally radioactive minerals cause more fission = more heat" Ah, but this isn't "fission".
To: Nifster
"heat is interesting but it is not work ....." LOL. "Heat" is the precursor to pretty much every source of energy man uses.

Will Lenny Lenr visit my house this year? No. New patents to be obtained, new technology to be developed and tested, says Rossi. And new time tables no doubt. 2012? 2013? 14???
What isn't new is the hype and hot air. So far not one usable model produced, not one.

Ah, but this isn't "fission".
Quote from another article at the conference Cryogenic Ignition of Deuteron Fusion in Micro/Nano-Scale Metal Particles :
At ambient temperatures or low energies (≤ 10 eV), deuterium fusion in metal proceeds dominantly via the following reactions:
{4} D(m) + D(m) → 4He(m) + 23.8 MeV (m), where m represents a host metal lattice or metal particle.
Over twenty years wasted. Thank goodness some people continued investigating the phenomenon unfunded. Gives one an insight into the politics of science.

"What isn't new is the hype and hot air. So far not one usable model produced, not one." In case you failed to notice, this posting is NOT about Rossi's e-cat. This is referring to a completely different researcher, different fuel type, different fuel feed, and VERY significant power out. The only similarity is that it is a "gas-loaded" reactor instead of an "electrolysis-loaded" one.
Note that Miley also says that his research HAS BEEN VERIFIED, though the abstract doesn't reference by whom. That will probably come out in the actual proceedings of the conference.

"Thank goodness some people continued investigating the phenomenon unfunded. And in the face of constant opposition and ridicule.
"Gives one an insight into the politics of science."
Very unfortunately true. The persecution of those who dared to continue research into LANR has not been pretty.

From the article:
"... producing 1479J heat ..." Pretty impressive precision on this measurement. That's 0.07% below 1480 and 1.4% below 1500.
To: Wonder Warthog
Oft times heat is the waste or by product or work already done....eg after a quantized level relaxes back to a transitional or ground state you almost always get heat....occassionally you get light-—light being the end goal not the heat.
that is just one example... and you can laugh all you want but accomplishing cold fusion is not going to happen so keep chasing

"that is just one example... and you can laugh all you want but accomplishing cold fusion is not going to happen so keep chasing" Ah, a skeptopath, and a noob, at that. I suggest you go read the peer reviewed papers at LENR/CANR.org and get back to me.
To: William Tell
"Pretty impressive precision on this measurement." Actually, it is. Miley has published his work on the calorimetry, and LOD and precision "are" impressive.
To: Wonder Warthog
I think his point is that it is about fission if it is the source of the heat.
