A Hemet High School teacher was arrested Thursday on suspicion of having sex with a student on campus.
Hemet Unified School District officials notified Riverside County sheriff’s deputies at 9 p.m. Wednesday that a teacher may have been involved in a sexual relationship with a minor at the school, Sgt. Wally Clear said in a report.
Sheriff’s detectives said Janel Ramirez, 31, and a male student were involved in sexual acts at the school during the month of December. The district would not disclose the student’s age.
Ramirez was arrested Thursday on suspicion of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, continued sexual abuse of a minor and two counts of oral copulation. No charges have been filed.
Ramirez was released from the Southwest Detention Center Thursday night on $100,000 bail.
A Hemet High School graduate, Ramirez was a ninth grade English teacher with the district since 2007, according to district records. She worked in a program with incoming ninth graders to become acclimated into high school, Deputy Superintendent LaFaye Platter said.
District officials would not say if Ramirez was placed on leave. She was not at school Thursday, Platter said.
School district officials also notified Child Protective Services of the allegations Wednesday night.
The school district issued messages to parents Thursday afternoon.
“We’re always deeply concerned when allegations like these surfaces,” Platter said. “We’ve assured every family at Hemet Unified about their student’s safety. We’re a close-knit, conscientious community with an obligation to report any suspicious activity or child abuse.”

Sorry people, but I have to vote NOT GUILTY, in this case. What people often fail to remember in these cases that people generally cannot put on their best face for a mug shot. I am open to changing my vote, but only after seeing a photo of her in a more typical setting.
Instead she has sex with a minor at her place of employment. High school kid would brag about it, heck, he probably, twittered, facebooked and my spaced it.
Is she that desperate? Lonely? Horny?
Now that she's been arrested, what decent sort of chap would want anything to do with her? Any future job interview would be awkward to say the least.
Reason for leaving last job? Uh, shagging a teenager at the job site.

I have a feeling this stuff has always been going on. Its just that those who get caught are getting a lot more exposure in the media.

One could try to attibute this to a lack of eligible men. However, a good number of these women are actually married. Back in the Eighties, I had a girl friend whose roommate was a [separated] teacher’s assistant & having a very public affair with a student.
No doubt part of it is immaturity mixed with nostalga. These women are reliving their High School days. This also happens to a lesser extent when mothers liver vicariously through the sex lives of their teenage daughters—not as “parents”, but as co-conspirators. The ladies will no doubt flame me, but I’ve seen this happen a number of times.

The past times when sex between female teachers and male students occurred, were both rare and generally unspoken to others.
The teacher was embarrassed and the young guy was both afraid and grateful about it.
Totally different moral times and methods of communication as well as types of punishments.
If a male was actually caught abusing a young boy {age dependent} he was more likely to be beaten to death than to walk away, and the folks that beat him were never prosecuted.
This was when being a queer was a sinful choice, not a genetic trait.
If only teachers were allowed to marry ...

They got a better basic education in those days too. Have you ever seen the 8th grade test from the 1800s that went around the internet?
Some 60 + years ago I was in the 3rd and 4th grade. We had two single teachers that were beautiful.
The 3rd grade teacher was a true blond, 5' 6" or 5' 7", 115 - 120 lbs, with blue eyes, a knock out. The 4th grade teacher was black headed, 5' 6" 120 lbs with deep brown eyes, she was beautiful. Both made a lasting impression as to their appearance.
As a boy of age 8 and age 9 I was deeply in love with them, I just didn't know why. It must have been some of those terrible male hormones that were starting to kick in.
The remaining female teachers grades 1 - 12 were not comely or were married or both as I recall these many years later.
Looking back I think both students and teachers were definitely more restrained in those days so many years ago.

Concur that those who stuck around got a pretty good education. Back then it was relatively rare to have a HS diploma—or maybe even an 8th grade diploma. And we don’t know how many students passed those tests. The literacy rates were relatively low compared to today.
I’ve learned (sometimes the hard way) that there is very little that is new under the sun. The vices that we bemoan today have always been with the human race. Back then we just didn’t have the technology to communicate and amplify them so effectively.
I wonder how many public school sex abuse cases there are compared to the Catholic Church. Has anyone compiled that data?
