A Win In Georgia Heralds Ultimate Defeat for Newt Gingrich [Santorum "Can Take The Fight to Obama"]

A Win In Georgia Heralds Ultimate Defeat for Newt Gingrich Gingrich may win his home state, but Santorum has already beaten him for the role of conservative alternative to Romney

Newt Gingrich doesn't really have to try to make the sale in Georgia – though he has been barnstorming the state nonetheless, practicing the kind of retail politics that made him a representative of the state's sixth district for 20 years. In Savannah on Friday, Gingrich entertained the audience with an anecdote about having been a (honorary) Girl Scout, revealing yet another text – in addition to Alcoholic Anonymous' Big Book, Alvin Toeffler's Future Shock and Isaac Asimov's Foundation series – central to his thinking: the original Girl Scout handbook, How Girls Can Help Their Country.

Not surprisingly, given the gender politics of the GOP primary, that book was written in 1917; more striking is that much of its advice has yet to be taken to heart by the candidates. I'd like to bang the global-warming deniers around the head with this straightforward suggestion:

"However, we should keep our minds open, ready to accept new truths as they are brought to our attention. Science and knowledge are constantly advancing, and what we believe now, we may find, some years hence, to be only a part of the truth."

Still, the Girl Scout text is a rare foray into the past for Newt Gingrich, who favors "bold" ideas, "fundamental change" and "visionary solutions", relishing the skepticism that those marginal ideas bring.

It's ironic that Gingrich's appeal in Georgia stems almost entirely from how familiar he is.

If this is true, then Romney will be the nominee.

Santorum is a phony, big government 'conservative'.

Accchhhh. Newt is such a deeply flawed personality and needs adoration too badly to make good on what his mouth says.

I know I am a lone beat up salmon swimming upstream but our not Romney should be Santorum instead of Gingrich just in case we can actually beat the Rommachine. The human being most grounded, secure, and doesn’t deeply crave approval and adoration is Rick Santorum. Therefore he would be the best conservative President.

You all would regret a Newt presidency.

Neither guy is perfect. I will vote for either guy in June that has a chance. But I support Santorum and I understand that he says good conservative things, things that are very true and one is glad they are said, and they are twisted around by the media just as Rush’s statements are. I don’t see any of you dumping Rush today. It’s the same BS hitting Santorum.

ANyway, at this point we see it played out. Gingrich is a good man and absolutely brilliant. But he isn’t trustworthy as a clean conservative steward of the presidency based on his past emotional decision making. I know you don’t believe me, but a steady hand is extremely important in the White House.

I agree that a steady hand is needed in the White House. That is one of the multitude of reasons I support Newt Gingrich over Santorum.

Santorum is a very emotionally weak man. I say this from my own observation of him, but it is also the opinion of people who have known him personally for years. My best friend in PA was horrified that he took his dead baby home and slept with it overnight. That one act alone does not recommend him psychologically. As an OB-GYN nurse for over 30 years, she had never seen anyone do anything like that.

Others who have observed Rick and worked with him over the years have described him as petulant, whiny, stubborn as a Jackass, haughty, self righteous, with a flash temper that sends him into meltdown.

I think these observations can be bolstered by Rick’s own words. It says a lot about him that he didn’t realize how inappropriate it was to describe himeself with the word “courage”. (Arizona Debate)

Policy wise, Rick is the Republican equivalent of Jimmy Carter.

It saddens me that we currently have an Energy Secretary and President that have openly declared that their goal is $10.00 per gallon gasoline. We have a candidate with the most detailed and well thought out step by step Energy plan that has ever been proposed, a plan that would give us energy independence, millions of jobs, and pay off our national debt.

Instead of voting for Newt, voters seem determined to nominate a guy who will be destroyed immediately by the truth, that he is weird and believs that God lives on the planet Kolab. The other voters’ choice is a very smug Elmer Gantry, with no plan or vision, who wants to micromanage social issues.

I would be ecstatic to have a President Newt Gingrich. I hope everyone who votes for someone else will be ecstatic with $ 10.00 per gallon gasoline and a third world country.

Funny, how Santorum is trailing Obama by a mere two points, and Gingrich is so far behind that he falls out of view in the rear view mirror.

This is, simply, not credible!

What?!? A UK reporter who calls the GOP candidates global warming deniers isn't credible?

Funny how meaningless those polls are after the nomination.

I believe Reagan was trailing Carter by quite a bit also.

Newt ? that is not going to sit well with conservatives who balk at the idea that Global Warming is Man Made.
