County News 9:08 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2012

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

A Cobb County middle school principal and counselor were arrested for allegedly failing to report a student's abuse claims to police.

Jerry Wright Dority, who was principal at Tapp Middle School in Powder Springs, and a counselor, Yatta Lynnette Collins, were both arrested Thursday morning and booked into the Cobb County jail, booking records show. The two have been placed on administrative leave, a school district spokesman said.

Dority, 50, and Collins, 40, are each charged with one count of failure to report child abuse, according to jail records. Both bonded out of jail later Thursday after posting $1,000 bond.

Wow. Atlanta sucks. Just checkin' in on who got canned after the criminal cheating scandal. Yahoo so-called news has scrubbed the subject.

“Atlanta Public Schools may be forced to renew the contracts of 90 tenured teachers implicated in one of the nation’s largest cheating scandals because of job protection rights.”

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the “other” articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

So are you saying that these folks worked in the Atlanta district and then moved to the Cobb system?

Surprised to see this. Cobb County Schools used to run a tight ship, unlike City of Atlanta. Might be an anomaly, might be a sign things have changed. I really am not sure, I don’t pay close attention.

Ping to AAM to see if she can shed any light, as she is more over that way.

i think dekalb is paying chuck burbridge, a cabinet member of former aps-superintendent beverly hall, to work a few days a week as dekalb looks for a cfo.

but that's not bad. aps rehired kathy augustine. she was one of beverly hall's aides. she was fired after one day on the job by the desoto, texas, school system because her role in the atlanta cheating. but atlanta hired her back. yeah. do you want me to repeat that?

i won't get into it, but have you ever looked at the statistical-improbability tests a school had to meet before it was even considered as a 'cheating' candidate?

and the statistical improbability of wrong-to-right erasure incidences in some of these classrooms?

No, but I’m interested. When I have some free time, I’ll check it out!
