Rush Limbaugh has posted a statement on his website this afternoon, forwarded by his brother David (one of my friends on line), apologizing for calling Sandra Fluke an insulting name while discussing her claims. It’s impossible to retain the context of his apology by excerpting it, so I hope Rush will not mind me posting it in its entirety:
For over 20 years, I have illustrated the absurd with absurdity, three hours a day, five days a week. In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke.
I think it is absolutely absurd that during these very serious political times, we are discussing personal sexual recreational activities before members of Congress. I personally do not agree that American citizens should pay for these social activities. What happened to personal responsibility and accountability? Where do we draw the line? If this is accepted as the norm, what will follow? Will we be debating if taxpayers should pay for new sneakers for all students that are interested in running to keep fit?In my monologue, I posited that it is not our business whatsoever to know what is going on in anyone’s bedroom nor do I think it is a topic that should reach a Presidential level.
My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir. I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices.
I think Rush did the right thing in apologizing to Fluke. However, let’s keep in mind that it was Fluke who made her sexual activity a matter of national political debate by insisting that the government pass laws and regulations forcing employers and insurers to provide her free contraception, and apparently as much as she and others demand. It’s Republicans who believe that contraception should remain a private affair, and that employers and insurers should be free to decide whether to cover contraception for their employees and customers or not. Democrats used Fluke to demand that those choices be stripped from private enterprises and instead be forced by the executive branch to entirely subsidize contraception.
That is the argument we should be making, as Republicans and conservatives. If you want your sexual choices to remain private, don’t use the government to force other people to subsidize them. Then we won’t have to turn the sex lives of Georgetown law school students into topics for political speculation.
Update: Along those same lines, does Donna Brazile also now oppose the government mandate to force employers and insurers to have a role in the decision to use contraception? She tweeted this message not too long ago (via Keder):
Agree! The government should have no role in contraception, and shouldn’t force employers or insurers to have a role in it, either. Keep it between the woman, her sexual partner, and her doctor. Well said.
Oh, wait, Brazile meant this in support of the mandate? She seems just as badly misinformed on the issue as her media colleagues … or as deliberately obtuse.
I just hope he doesn’t say “screw it,” and leave the golden microphone.
When a rat is caught in a crime, the Left circles the defensive wagons around him; when one of ours makes perhaps a misstep, the conservative circular firing squad immediately forms.
He did it because he was losing his cigar money. He could have framed the argument differently and instead of attacking one woman he should have trained his attacks on Obama who is using this to divide us as Christians and Americans and that Obama is destroying freedom, liberty and America. People need to get that in to their systems. Rush can either bow down to his sponsors or stand up for America and what’s right. He chose the former.
“Indeed, he should have doubled down.”
I don’t know . . . maybe he DID double down. . . by calling her that in the first place. Rush is smart. And he has called it what it is. If nothing else, it opens the door to the morality issue in a blatant way. Yeah he lost his sponsors, but does he care? Rush does not need to do anything he doesn’t want to do, including being a radio host.
She wants me to pay for her recreational sex....

I don’t know about you, Bunny, but in this part of the forest, sex has a top billing as recreation.
Sorry to hear that it is such a duty in Bunnville.
This just completely changes my perspective of the idea about sos-and-sos are copulating like bunnies. I thought that they were having fun.
Poor them.
Perhaps you are incorrect in your assumption of how others feel?
This too, shall pass.
Well said Mortrey.
What amazes me is that the sluts parents have come forth and gave praise to their daughters slutty lifestyle.
Slut, Slut...Slut....I like saying it. I’m sure some musically inclined minded FR could put the name to music. Frankie Vallie and Sherry Baby comes to mind.
Yep, Slut. Born and bred by the government and the democrats.
Todd Rundgren had a song titled ‘Slut’ back in the 70’s on his ‘Something/Anything’ album...
Rush, like a glamour model, will have any and all that he wishes. Rush does not beg for companies to promote his show. Quite the opposite. Companies beg for his endorsement.
Good Lord. Yours must be a miserable existence. Thank God you weren’t around in the dark days of World War II. We’d all be goosestepping and speaking German today.
While we sit around and grouse and complain, tonight’s latest is calls on Huffpo and Daily Kos to have Panetta yank Limbaugh from ARMED FORCES RADIO....
You and I BOTH know that this will be the lead on Mainstream Media on Monday.
Pull your head out of your -—, and MAKE SURE you take the time in the morning to call your Congressman and tell them enough of this bovine excrement!
I'm sure Pelosi and the crew would welcome you with hugs and kisses. Dang, talk about being a fake! Go 'fluke' yourself.
Yep! Slut.
RightON RightON RightON
Kit cat bar. Gotta love ‘em.
thanks for the links..I’ve already set this into motion with all the people I know to call, notify, etc. that we’ll dump their products because Rush Limbaugh is right on with his point..that no one is responsible for this woman or anyone elses use of birth control nor should ,I or anyone else have to pay for their contraceptives. Rush Limbaugh has explained himself enough for what his point was! I listen to Rush and I am grateful he’s there! So this is my way to show him my support ..hopefully others will too.

Well, let’s think this through. By apologizing for describing an individual perfectly willing to describe needing $3K a year for contraception (and that is quite a lot of pills considering they are generic and monthly)in graphic terms— he put front and center a distinction from someone who would normally get pills from any number of free public sources. This person wants the public to be mandated to pay for her personal choices... and calling her what she must be if she needs that much for birth control pills (and one must assume mandated abortion on demand coverage)points out to the public paying attention the complete idiocy of the position.
This person was NOT allowed to take part in a congressional hearing and was then trotted out by democrats to a “media event” hearing for Pelosi et al. And we then find out she is an “activist”... that is to say a bought dog for the democrat agenda.
This issue has as much impact on an indignant public, as mandating viagra or cialis for men, paid for by the public for them.
And now, Rush, by apologizing has maintained the pressure. He can make up his advertisers... it’s an opportunity that will taken up by others... much more than pro flowers or a mattress store chain. He sells more tea in one day than the ad revenues from these.
And now.. can we get back to something more important than a 3rd year law student’s sex life and her oh so personal needs? Like, $10 a gallon gasoline?
The armed forces that obama is drawing down... to come back to the 21% unemployment in the US?
This doesn’t have the legs vs. the utter screwups in energy, the middle east and a host of other incompetently managed issues by our so called president.
Sorry to say... this won’t last another day. There will be new sponsors... and if it does persist, the obamacare issues will be front and center... the MANDATE to have coverage so that they can MANDATE contraception (and abortion) for people like this. The press will turn on HER... mark it.. because she is a fraud and this is a distraction. Events will overtake this... people have had enough of obama... free birth control for illegals on national healthcare .. oh yeah THAT will get major support.
The media are idiots.
Rush might have gone too far but so did Maher.
Here's a breakdown on 'birth control' costs:
Birth control pills at Walmart sell for $9 a month - for three years of law school that's $324.
After the three years of birth control pills are paid for a law student is left with $2,676 to cover the costs of condoms....
A box of LifeStyles Ultra Sensitive 40ct Condoms at Walmart runs $11.46.
For the $2,676 left AFTER buying birth control pills, she ( random law student) can buy 233 boxes of condoms (the 40 count boxes) - for a total of 9320 condoms over a three year stint at law school... or 3,106 condoms per year. Or about 8 1/2 condoms PER DAY.
The question is: what do we call a female law student who uses - on average - 60 condoms a week?
Bill Maher of HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher referred to Sarah Palin as a 'twat' - to the laughter of his liberal (oh so sensitive) audience... We can't use that word - because it's NOT funny when a liberal is called a name. Only when a conservative women is called names is it funny.
I wonder what Maher and the other sensitive liberals would call Sarah Palin if she or her daughters were using 60 condoms a week - every week - week in - week out - for three years.
Many on FR have evolved into whining pantywaists. SMH...
Hello Big Shot, internet key board "tough guy".
My favorite is Somewhere in England 1915. Roads to Moscow is in my top 5 Al songs, surely. Can’t wait to hear Rush at 12:07 today!
One more time: Rush called her a slut ***IF*** she was telling the truth, and he made it painfully clear that she was a lying hack.
$3,000 for contraception over three years does seem a lot, but I don’t know what she based that figure on. She may well be a lying hack who inflated the cost - she is studying law after all.
Where Rush was out of line was calling her a slut. He tried to be funny and overstepped the line. Nothing in her prepared speech warranted that.
You don’t think it’s a little odd, for a grown adult to like saying slut a lot, and wanting to put it to music?
ROFL
What did Rush say about Tea if by Two in his opening statement today?
A role model for barry’s daughters.
I agree Their aint no reason to apologize, if this woman is haveing that much unweded sex to merit a 3000 dollar bill she is a slut in my book end of story.
Apparently this woman never heard of the concept abstance and as a result she actually has the audacity to insist that WE pay not only for her careless sex but for the killing that takes place so that she can avoid the Natural function of that sex.
Ms. Fluke is a truly discussing woman, much worse than a common slut. It is not her who deserves an abolish but sluts everywhere who deserve an apologize for scum like her being grouped among them.
Rush should NOT black down, nobody should back down. This woman is at the very least an irresponsible parasite that not only forces her unborn children to bare the consequence of HER choice but actually expects the rest of us to do so as well! Could she get more reprehensible?
It’s called satire. Just what Rush did.
Dang, Libs are so easy to expose.
Fluke it baby. Fluke it!
Yes, the fraudulent $3000 figure was the reason that Rush implied (with tongue in cheek) that she must be a “slut”, or a prostitute b/c she wants US to pay for her sex! Bob
The homo lobby got to him first. When was the last time you heard them criticized by Rush?
Ya never know here on FR.
Rush should've said: "I'll apologize to Fluke when Bill Maher apologizes for calling Ronald Reagan a f---ing a--hole and Sarah Palin a f---ing c---, and cracking crass sexual jokes about her underage daughters."
Carbonite’s stock dropped 12% the day after they dropped Rush. Better think again about who is getting hurt here.
So I have come friends who were just on Dancing With the Stars and they went to a new restaurant/venue called SoHo. They had a great time and I understand it’s a private club.
They are going to Red O this evening and since it’s Rick Bayless, who my chef friend adores, It has to be great.
Have you been to either place?
Sorry for the late reply, I was on a production thingy’. No, haven’t been to SoHo but I have been to Petit Ermitage which supposedly from the same guys who are involved in SoHo. I was at Red O many months ago and remembered they had a killer wine list. Pinot Noir Summerland, I believe was what I/we ordered. Heck, Melrose is just 5 minutes away from me :)
If you know of any good seafood cuisine in the Hollywood area, I’d like to know about it.
I am going to try your Petit tomorrow. I am going to LA in a couple of months. Hopefully we can meet.
“Hopefully we can meet.”
I thought you live here and work here too, like the rest of us ostracized right-wingers in a super blue city? ;) And if you do land at Petit, head to the rooftop. The view is killer. (Killer meaning the pool always has a lot of gorgeous women around it so do your best to appear single)
New. I’m up north in SFO Bay Area.
And I will look very single and be very interesting.
Luv let women think I love talking about myself and then turning it around learning more about them.
Unless it’s closing time, then we are talking breakfast....after sleeping in.
LOL
Look forward to meeting you.
