MILLIONS of dollars in government research funding is being ploughed into studies of emotion in climate change messages, ancient economic life in Italy and the history of the moon.
Studies of sleeping snails and determining if Australian birds are getting smaller because of climate change have also been allocated funding in the latest round of grants totalling $300 million by the Australian Research Council.
Another project titled "Sending and responding to messages about climate change: the role of emotion and morality" by a Queensland university secured $197,302. The council said it was an important psychology project. The study to determine if birds are shrinking was awarded $314,000 and another of sleeping snails to determine "factors that aid life extension" was given $145,000. Studying the early history of the moon will cost taxpayers $210,000 and another study looking at "William Blake in the 21st century" comes with a $636,904 bill.
"At a time when every available dollar could be put to backing innovation and research and development to make us more competitive, we have seen a growth in support for some real eyebrow-raising activities," opposition finance spokesman Andrew Robb said.
"Australian Research Council criteria has been extended beyond the scientific, the innovative and the practical to include some real airy-fairy stuff.
"Which means less money for more worthwhile research."

However, as in other nations, the money will probably be squandered on fighting nature rather than using what it gives us. Fighting the climate is a battle we can never win, no matter how much we spend.
Almost every single one of the environmental fears/threats of the 60s and 70s was unraveled to be a scam by the late 90s. Likewise, now the scams of the 80s and 90s are beginning to unravel. But no worries, new names and new ideas will pop up, because these issues are the front to a social movement, that gives kids and secular types that are looking for cause a purpose. These are low threat issues where politicians can score easy capital without any disagreement and big business can make a buck all awhile everyone pretends that these causes are some underdog as government subsidies, give tax initiatives, purchasing preferences etc to large corporations which are always on board with every single one of these scams, i.e. GE and wind power, CFLs; DuPont new refrigerants...

Most of these green scams have cost more money, killed more people (DDT ban alone was responsible for tens of thousands of deaths from malaria) than any other scam scheme out there. In the US were are now experiencing a rise in traffic deaths, but watch- NO ONE neither in the media or government will associate this with the rise in compact cars, scooters and motorcycles; of course not, because these social fads/themes are Holly and that would be blasphemy.

Green = feel good nonsense for people with really strong feelings and no rational thought, socialists that want to ban or tax to death any productive economic activity. But of course politicians and business will exploit these “useful idiots.” (Lenin)

The do-gooder sector feeding at the public trough. That’s a huge bill for Australian taxpayers because I understand our Federales only squander 2 billion a year on global warming research (so less $$$$ blown per capita)
Ever wonder why you never stop hearing about studies finding GW responsible for everything from kidney stones to cannibalism? Explains Richard Lindzen (Sloan Professor of Meteorology at MIT): "It's become standard that whatever you're studying, include global warming's effects in your proposal and you'll get your (government) funding."
