Skip to comments.Newt Gingrich's Sunday pitch: Don't count me out
Posted on 03/04/2012 12:09:30 PM PST by Cincinatus' Wife
...."This is going to go on for a good while," the former House speaker said on ABC's "This Week with George Stephanopoulos," one of several Washington talk shows Gingrich visited in the run-up to Super Tuesday.
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney may outspend the rest of the GOP field "by multiples," Gingrich said, but "he's not a very convincing front-runner and he's a long way from having closed out this race."
Gingrich said he expects to win Georgia, the largest of the states voting in Tuesday's nationwide sweepstakes, and to do so by more than Romney's narrow victory Tuesday in his native Michigan. From there, Gingrich said, he expects to win Alabama and Mississippi a week later and bulk up his delegate count in Texas and California at the end of the calendar.
.....Gingrich repeatedly refused to be drawn into the controversy surrounding Rush Limbaugh. The talk radio host apologized Saturday night for the slurs he used to refer to a Georgetown University law school student after she testified before congressional Democrats in favor of a rule requiring employers to offer health insurance covering birth control.
While Gingrich said the apology was appropriate, he accused the "elite media" of avoiding more pressing issues, such as rising gas prices, the death of Americans in Afghanistan and, not least, the Obama administration's alleged hostility to religious institutions.
"Nobody's blocking anyone from having access to contraception. No one," Gingrich said on NBC's "Meet The Press." The question, as he framed it, is whether Obama, through government fiat, can impose his views on religious institutions.
"Have we become a country where it's OK to go to church on Sunday morning for one hour, but let's not actually express those beliefs the rest of the week?" Gingrich demanded.

..."The Republican Party has four people running for president, none of whom is Rush Limbaugh," Gingrich said. "One of them will end up as the nominee, and that person will be the Republican spokesman. I don't think any of them were involved in this controversy at all."..... CNN
March 3rd - Bowling Green, OH ..."Asked by reporters here about Mr. Limbaughs comments, the former House speaker responded, I dont even know. I wasnt involved in the conversation. He continued, I will say that the news media seems far more eager to talk about Rush Limbaughs language than they are to talk about the Barack Obamas apology to the people who are killing Americans. That was a reference to President Obamas apology to Afghan President Hamid Karzai for U.S. troops who burned Qurans, sparking deadly protests in Afghanistan." WSJ
....."Newt Gingrich said President Obama acted opportunistically when he called law student Sandra Fluke to extend his support for the woman who had been called a slut and a prostitute by radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh.
I think the president will opportunistically do anything he can, Gingrich said after a rally in Hamilton, Ohio, according to ABC News.".... Newt Gingrich: Obama acted "opportunistically" in calling Fluke. LA Times
....."ROMNEY: No, absolutely not. Of course not.
There was no requirement in Massachusetts for the Catholic Church to provide morning-after pills to rape victims. That was entirely voluntary on their report. There was no such requirement.
Likewise, in Massachusetts health care bill, there's a provision in Massachusetts general laws that says people don't have to have coverage for contraceptives or other type of medical devices which are contrary to their religious teachings. Churches also don't have to provide that to entities which are either the church themselves or entities they control. So we have provisions that make sure that something of that nature does not occur.
That's why when I worked closely with the leaders of the Catholic Church, I met with the cardinal a number of times, and with his emissaries. We talked about the issues we were concerned about.
We battled, for instance, to help the Catholic Church stay in the adoption business. The amazing thing was that while the Catholic Church was responsible for half the adoptions in my state -- half the adoptions -- they had to get out of that business because the legislature wouldn't support me and give them an exemption from having to place children in homes where there was a mom and a dad on a preferential basis.
Absolutely extraordinary. We have to have individuals that will stand up for religious conscience, and I did and I will again as president.".....
"...GINGRICH: Well, the reports we got were quite clear that the public health department was prepared to give a waiver to Catholic hospitals about a morning-after abortion pill, and that the governor's office issued explicit instructions saying that they believed it wasn't possible under Massachusetts law to give them that waiver. Now, that was the newspaper reports that came out. That's something that both Senator Santorum and I have raised before. But I want to go a step further, because this makes a point that Ron Paul has been making for a generation and that people need to take very seriously.
When you have government as the central provider of services, you inevitably move towards tyranny, because the government has the power of force.
You inevitably -- and I think this is true whether it's Romneycare or Obamacare or any other government centralized system -- you inevitably move towards the coercion of the state and the state saying, "If you don't do what we, the politicians, have defined, you will be punished either financially or you will be punished in some other way like going to jail."
And that's why we are, I think, at an enormous crossroads in this country. And I think the fact is, for almost all of us who have been at this for any length of time, we're now looking at an abyss that forces you to change what you may once have thought -- and I suspect all four of us are much more worried today about the power of the state than we would have been -- with the possible exception of Congressman Paul -- than we would have been at any point in the last 25 years.".....
AND the TOP HEADLINE out of the Mesa Debate:
...."GINGRICH: But I just want to point out, you did not once in the 2008 campaign, not once did anybody in the elite media ask why Barack Obama voted in favor of legalizing infanticide. OK? So let's be clear here.
GINGRICH: If we're going to have a debate about who the extremist is on these issues, it is President Obama who, as a state senator, voted to protect doctors who killed babies who survived the abortion. It is not the Republicans."...
I’m in again for another donation.
might give again to Rick just to keep him play so Mutt can’t fix his sights on a single target.
Why are they asking Newt to explain Rush? Go Newt!
Meet the Press:....”A tense exchange erupted between Gingrich and Gregory when Gingrich was asked about on-air comments made by conservative radio talk-show host Rush Limbaugh. Recently, Limbaugh verbally attacked a female Georgetown student, Sandra Fluke, for endorsing mandatory health insurance coverage for contraception, calling Fluke “a slut”. Gingrich felt Limbaugh’s comment’s were being used to bash the Republican party.”........
Because they want to stir up trouble and bury his message before Tuesday [but I think you already knew that :)]
I will continue to stand with Newt until he either wins or tells me he no longer desires my support.
** President Newt Gingrich-”Our beloved republic deserves nothing less.”
...then it's four more of the brown Bolshevik.
Saw a headline that said: Obama calls fluke.....and I thought....What did HE call her?
Made me pause too.
Obama called Fluke.
Obama was kind.
The MSM loves Obama.
Great job, Cincinatus’ Wife!!
Thank you for the LINK!
Interview begins 4:00 into video. Newt is grilled on Rush and contraception for 6 minutes and then he gets 5 minutes to discuss other issues.
Listening now. Newt is brilliant.
Oh..lol. You’re fast! You linked to the one I had deleted which went to the start of the show and not directly to Newt’s interview.
He has been saying that since his ONE win in South Carolina. Getting fourth place every state since. Don’t count me out will be said from his mouth three months from now. He will get 9 3rd or 4th place wins on Tuesday and MAYBE either a first or second place in Georgia. He is a one hit wonder.
If Newt drops out he will not endorse and his supporters will sit it out until the general. Santo wizzed on Newt’s leg so he is going to be on his own. Good luck with that.
Wow. You really know Newt that much. He said this morning that he will support the Republican nominee and would hope it is Santorum is not himself. He does not hate a conservative like you do.
I did not hear anything about Newt hoping it would be Santorum. Got a link to that?
When will Republicans LEARN??? Learn from the past.
EVERY STINKING election year, they drag out a SEX issue..
The Republicans feel the need to get down in the pig pen and speak their minds. You will not win. SHUT UP already, in fact don't even approach the subject. Stupidity.
Newt hoping it would be Santorum.
I did not say that he was hoping it was Santorum exclusively. I said if Newt could NOT be the nominee he would want it to be Santorum. Newt wants to be the nominee.
I hope Rush will be able to use this in his defense. Fluke is exactly what he said she was, but at the time he didn’t know how true it was. Now he does.
So then likewise, Rick would want Newt to be the nominee over Mitt. [??]
Have you heard this or are you just trying to shine Rick up a tad by imagining a pre-convention endorsement of Rick by Newt?
He certainly spanked that pompous Gregory. Gregory did not go done easily, lol, kept coming back for another spanking by NEWT.
Here is what I would like to see done: Put a CONDOM on the head of every male media talking head. Put a contraceptive, (what ever they are called for short) in the mouth of every Liberal female talking heads.
This would should keep them from spreading their VILE liberal disease driven messages that do more harm to Americans than anything Rush has said. The whole Liberal media are an STD.
I am at the point ...where I will vote for anyone, ANYONE but Obama.
Not a Romney supporter, never will be. But if I can at least vote to send that Marxist POS and his digusting mooch of a wife out of the WH — and their absolutely EVIL administration out, along with all the czars???
I say GET HIM OUT, NOW. Whatever it takes. He is DISGUSTING. Another 4 years of THIS??? We’ll be fighting off the hoardes who will suddenly break in from everywhere ...we will have NO resources left ...it will be a fight for land and anything else we have left ...which won’t be much.
But I want it to be Newt ...and I think he IS the best man by far, for the job. Praying my fellow GOP members come to their senses and understand this very soon.
Great picture...but wko is the woman on the far right?
Thank you, onyx!
GO, NEWT, GO! KEEP ON KEEPING ON!
Thanks for the post onyx! This was a great interview...in one-on-one settings Newt is always able to reframe the questions and call his interviewers to task. He is the best at it. We need his communication skills against Obama.
