McCain to call for air strikes on Syria
foreignpolicy.com ^ | March 5, 2012 | Josh Rogin

Later today, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), the ranking Republican on the Senate Armed Services, will become the first U.S. senator to publicly call for U.S. led air strikes to halt the violence and atrocities being committed by the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

"After a year of bloodshed, the crisis in Syria has reached a decisive moment," McCain will say Monday afternoon in a speech on the Senate floor, according to excerpts obtained in advance by The Cable.

"What opposition groups in Syria need most urgently is relief from Assad's tank and artillery sieges in many cities that are still contested. Homs is lost for now, but Idlib, and Hama, and Qusayr, and Deraa, and other cities in Syria could still be saved," McCain will say. "But time is running out. Assad's forces are on the march. Providing military assistance to the Free Syrian Army and other opposition groups is necessary, but at this late hour, that alone will not be sufficient to stop the slaughter and save innocent lives. The only realistic way to do so is with foreign airpower."

The Muslim Brotherhood isn’t the opposition in Syria. That’s why Obama is staying out of it like he did with the Iranian uprising.

"McCain to call for air strikes on Syria"

Hey McLame. If you really want to do or say something useful, how 'bout calling for air strikes on DC when the messiah is home and congress is in session!

The opposition is worse than Assad, hence McQueeg supports them.

The elimination of Syria is key to defeating Iran. The Islamophobia indicates gross failure of understanding of the players and how they are proceeding.

When Syria is overturned, Contact with Lebanon and thus the Hezbollah will be severed. It will no longer be able to support them via Syria. The elimination or reduction of the threat from Lebanon is a great boon to Israel and probably the best bang for the buck that is available..

He said US led. The air attacks will come from Qatar and probably Saudi Arabia air forces. They are collectively known as the Gulf Cooperation Council and will act on behalf of and at the consent of the Arab League.

Once again, McCain gets it wrong. We don’t have a dog in this fight. There is no significant chance that regime change in Syria will be good for America. We should stay out.

You really think that Syria will not become one more Muslim theocracy when Assad falls and that they won't eventually re-align themselves with Iran? You're dreaming.

Here's the plan: After Syria falls, Jordan is next on the list. Craven Kuwait is already bending the knee. Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States. The monarchies will be gone. The Muslim Ummah will be triumphant.

Then, they will turn toward Israel and no nation will aid her.

Who are we suppose to bomb? The “freedom fighters” or do we bomb the oppressive government that is killing its own people?

I don’t think this would be happening if he was elected the dynamics would be different. Obama and his supporters statred it.

The Muslim Brotherhood isn’t the opposition in Syria.

They were at one time, but Old Man Assad took care of them in a big way.

Starting fires in your tinderbox neighborhood is not wise, as you don’t know what the fire will consume. Israel has had relative peace with the Assads for the last 38 years.
