AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Democratic state Rep. J. M. Lozano will switch parties and become a Republican, further padding the GOP super-majority in the Texas House.

A spokesman said Monday that Lozano plans to announce his decision Thursday in Austin and in his Gulf Coast home district, which includes Kingsville.

The move gives the Republicans 102 seats of the House's 150, but that will only matter if a special session is called.

I never ever trust a Democrat that switches to Republican. There is no way in hell that a person can change his ideology from that of a liberal to a conservative.

Once a person develops liberal mindset they are beyond help. I can only figure this is a ploy by the liberals to plant a socialist in the Republican party

-- and I'm sure you have something else ignorant to say.
Look it over before you judge. Check the history and the young man's bio. This is not some South Texas ploy. Farenthold is making massive headway in the 'Rat hold on South Texas.

Look I wouldn’t run thus guy for Governor but a pro-life Hispanic rat jumping ship, embarrassing for the rats. Not a bad thing.

Lozano is from Kleberg County? I think that’s in the new Hispanic-majority CD they drew centered in Cameron County (the southern half of Farenthold’s TX-27 was stripped off to reduce the TX-27’s Hispanic percentage to 50% and thus make it safe for Farenthold). Maybe not governor, sure, but I’d certainly take Lozano as a GOP congressman in a 70%-Hispanic CD.

Lozano’s new Texas House District 43, went from being Democratic-leaning to Republican-leaning. It’s comprised of Kleberg, Jim Wells, San Patricio and Bee counties. Of these, only Jim Wells reliably votes Democratic. In the 2010 election, the four counties combined went with Republican John McCain with 51.1 percent of the vote.

That's right you don't know anything about Texas and South Texas in particular. Kleberg county is about to become the 2nd Hispanic majority Republican county in Texas, and it neighbors Nueces county which is the 1st.

There had to be a new CD in the Rio Grande Valley due to population growth down there. The reason TX-27 was expanded to Brownsville in the 2001 redistricting was due to the fact that Nueces county's population was stagnant and more area had to be added to it to the CD to make up the population shortfall. The irony is that Ortiz lost his home county in 2010. He was depending on Hispanics in the RGV to turn out, but they weren't enthusiastic about turning out for Ortiz who is from the other end of the old 27th district.

That would be the 34th?

We have a surprising 6 candidates running there to 3 rats (Salomon Torres being the guy who’s gonna win).

2 of the Republicans are Hispanic, one, Adela Garza is a least a Trustee at a minor college and a former school board member. The other Jessica Puente Bradshaw, is better looking, but she’s just a realtor (spellcheck wants me to capitalize realtor, apparently it’s correct but I ain’t gonna, it also disapproves of me writing spellcheck as one word).

And then there’s former State Rep. Paul Haring who has 4 failed bids for Congress under his belt, one of them in a rat primary in 1970. He was in the State House 1961-67 ( Jeez!). Ran as a Republican for Congress in 2004, 2006, and 2010. Winning the nomination to face Ruben Hinojosa in 2006 and losing badly in November. He lost the primary runoff to a Hispanic Republican in 2010.

I bet he’s the only non-incumbent to have run for Congress in 1970 and 2010.

“The other Jessica Puente Bradshaw, is better looking, but she’s just a realtor”

Again with the anti-realtor bias? Now you won’t be able to purchase a house in Toledo *or* Brownsville.

BTW, there is NO WAY that “realtor” should be capitalized, unless it begins a sentence. It’s not just that you did not use the word as a title, it is *impossible* to use the word as a title, because it is a profession, not an honorific. It would be like capitalizing “lawyer.”
