(Georgetown,DC) - Am I the only one at Georgetown who is not upset with Rush right now?
His comments regarding Sandra Fluke, third year Law student at Georgetown University, are less outrageous when viewed in the real context of the debate on Obama’s mandate for religious institutions to include contraceptive coverage in their healthcare plans.
Fluke, in her own testimony before a Democratic panel, pointed out that the University covered birth control pills when used for the treatment of a medical condition. This is the key to understanding Limbaugh’s comments. When used for medicinal purposes and healthcare, Georgetown has no problem covering the expense of birth control under their insurance plan. Fluke’s complaint was based on the fact that it was not covered for the use as a contraceptive, which would violate the Catholic church’s beliefs.
Limbaugh’s statements were not that much of a stretch. He might have been a tad hyperbolic in making his point, but this is how he earns a living. Whether or not you agree with the way he phrased his argument, he may have a point.
Of course, no one wants to actually talk about that aspect of the issue. They would rather make this an unneeded debate about contraception rather than admit this is about religious liberty.
Limbaugh, in his attempt to focus the debate back on the actual issue at hand, has been demonized by...well, just about everybody.
President Obama went so far as to call Fluke and offer his support. Meanwhile, DC residents are paying almost $5 a gallon for gasoline. Good thing he has his priorities straight.
There have been calls from all levels of Democrats, including former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), for all Republicans to condemn Limbaugh’s comments. Congresswoman Louise Slaughter (D- NY) wrote a letter to Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) saying, “the Republicans have a special obligation to condemn the atrocious and hurtful words spoken by Mr. Limbaugh.”
Apparently, now everyone has to actively seek out and apologize for comments other people make, regardless of whether or not they agree with them, if the offender shares a similar ideology. Where does this line of reasoning take us? Should all Baptists have to make public statements that they do not agree with the actions of Westboro Baptist Church?
That would be ridiculous. Just like the outrage over Limbaugh’s criticism of Fluke. I might be in the minority on my campus, but I agree with Rush.

Are you aware that the word fluke also means parasite?
This is the first I’ve heard that Fluke’s testimony admitted that G-town would cover pills for medical reasons (ovarian cysts, etc). I heard that she claimed one of her friends lost an ovary because G-town refused to cover the pill even when her doctor told her she needed it.
Suppose I better go find the actual testimony.
Nancy Pelosi’s initiative to convince Sandra Fluke to testify to the principle of contraception as a health care necessity is simply wrong. Colleges and universities provide accidental injury/major medical and not traditional employee health insurance to students. Since students are generally young and not subject to the myriad diseases confronting older people or families with children, the coverage is limited. Not only contraceptives, but many medical procedures and drugs are not included. Since sexual intercourse is an optional, and not a required activity of law school students, contraceptives should not be among policy provisions.
Ms. Fluke testified that 40% of the women in law school considered sexual intercourse a compelling or preferred recreational activity. Therefore, the proper place to make her case is with the Georgetown University Student Association. The university encourages students to actively engage in more than 200 co-curricular clubs and activities. She testified to what would be more accurately described as a club sport or performing art, than as a health care necessity.
The analogy should not be considered facetious, but should awaken people to the limits of targeted, low cost insurance programs.

To the democrats and news media: Go straight to hell! The only reason to be upset with Rush is that he made any kind of apology. It’s time to stop making apologies when there is no reason. It’s time to go to same depths as the liberals in attacking our opposition.

The way this woman insists on the pronunciation of her last name sounds a lot like the German word ‘’flucht’ which I believe, now I could very well be wrong, but I think it means f**k’’. If it does it certainly fits.

When. Where? You've posted this more than once today and each time I ask the same question, because that liberal activist Fluke did not say that to the Democrats in her presentation. If she said this, then I want to know when and where so I can use it when I talk with liberals. If she didn't and you are either making this up or are clueless, then It does not help this situation.
Some women have to take BCPs for medical reasons, irregular periods being a common reason. The BCPs keep estrogen and progesterone levels moderated and; thereby, promote menstrual regularity. I haven’t really commented on this issue until now but I think it should be mentioned that BCPs aren’t just for sluts who don’t want to get pregnant. Perhaps we should enter battle a little more thoughtfully in the future.
I expect those condemnations will be "coming down the pike" right after the Democrats call for all Democrats to condemn the untold nasty slurs and pejorative comments aimed at Republicans and conservatives by Bill Maher, Barney Frank, Hairy Reid, Chuck Schumer, Obama, any number of Hollyweird lefties, etc., etc., etc.
