A local radio station has yanked the Rush Limbaugh Show from its airwaves in response to remarks in which the controversial talk-show host called a female law student a "slut" and "prostitute" over her support of health insurance coverage of birth control.
On Monday, AM 1420 WBEC , along with KPUA in Hilo Hawaii, dropped the weekday syndicated program because of Limbaugh’s offensive remarks last week toward Sandra Fluke.
"Certainly his comments were outrageous," said WBEC General Manager Peter Barry. "There’s no reason to resort to derogatory comments."
WBEC and KPUA are the first of the 645 stations that air Limbaugh to cancel the show. In addition, nine national sponsors have stopped advertising on the program. Limbaugh apologized over the weekend for his comments.
WBEC first announced the show’s cancellation just prior to its regular airing from noon to 3 p.m. The announcements continued throughout the three-hour time slot, temporarily being filled by a national sports talk program, according to Barry.
"We’re covering with Fox Sports News until we can find an alternative for Limbaugh," he said.
Reaction to WBEC silencing Limbaugh has been mixed.
Barry said he’s received dozens of emails from people around the country praising the station’s action, while several loyal listeners of Limbaugh called WBEC Monday afternoon to criticize the move.

Rush said no such thing.
This morning in Hilo I turned on KPUA to listen to Rush. Instead of Rush there was a sports talk show. I wondered why Rush was not on and now this article has explained it. This is really not surprising, as this state of Hawaii is the most liberal of all states....and that includes Taxatuchetts.
Me , too . If he went to Sierius XM , maybe I could pick him up in Jellystone or Lake Powell .

No, there’s no need to take another look at anything. He said what he said and he apologized for it. There’s no need to attack me for it either. I’m not your enemy. Blindly lashing out at everyone and anything is the only hysteria I see and i see a lot of it. Things aren’t looking good and folks are starting to realize it. That makes them angry and belligerent and that’s no way to improve anything. We should be focused on a dozen different issues but here we are.

He said (and I paraphrase) if she was spending $3,000 on birth control she must be a slut or a prostitute. He actually was questioning her claim to spending such an absurd amount on the pill and/or condoms.

Sorry 'guns' but losing a station just means Rush can will sign on with the competitor station in that marketplace. Rush can't walk to another unless he's dropped by the station he was on.

I have to agree with the Snake Doc. Your 'parsing' of what was actually said, and done, gives you the crown of idiocy so richly deserved.
BS RC one. You flat out lied about what Rush said and SnakeDoctor called you on it. You are the hysterical one and showing strong signs of being a liberal troll at this point. I don’t know if you lied about Coulter or not, but judging from the outrageous thing you said about Rush I would say the chances are very good you did lie in that instance also.
Stupid people! There is no alternative or replacement for Rush. Their stations will go under. Too bad, too sad! It was nice while it lasted libs!
Can I get the internet on my car radio?
On a serious note, I have NO trouble finding Rush on the radio as I drive around. I used to carry his 15-page list of radio stations, but it really was unnecessary. When his signal started to fade, I always could get another one.
