GALLUP: Romney Advances Lead Over Santorum (8% point lead among conservatives)
gallup.com ^ | March 5, 2012

PRINCETON, NJ -- Mitt Romney leads Rick Santorum by 16 percentage points in Feb. 29-March 4 Gallup Daily tracking of national Republican registered voters' preferences for their party's nomination. Romney is at 38%, Santorum 22%, Newt Gingrich 15%, and Ron Paul 12%. Santorum led Romney by 10 points as recently as Feb. 20.

Romney's current 38% of the vote is the highest percentage any candidate has obtained since Gallup Daily tracking of the race began on Dec. 1, and comes in the wake of Romney's wins in the Feb. 28 Michigan and Arizona primaries. Romney won the Washington state GOP nonbinding caucuses on Saturday, but that victory would have had only a limited impact on the latest five-day rolling national average, which extends back through last Wednesday.

The March 6 slate of 10 primaries and caucuses in the so-called Super Tuesday states has the potential to once more alter the national standings of the candidates. Romney is widely expected to lose in Gingrich's home state of Georgia, and faces a tough challenge in Tennessee and Oklahoma. Romney is likely to win in his home state of Massachusetts and the contiguous state of Vermont. The critical state will be Ohio, partly because pre-election polling shows the race there to be very close and partly because it is considered to be a bellwether state that will be important in this fall's election.

Romney's strong momentum nationally in recent days suggests that he may do better than expected in the 10 Super Tuesday states.

Even more depressing is voter turnout.

what utter B’S

one can call themselves a conservative but if they have no problem with homo’s marrying, Govt health care, cross dressing and then using the other sex bathrooms, closing down religion, and big Govt then it does not make you a conservative.

Anyone who supports Romney is no where near a conservative but what they are is ignorant to a MA Gov from a liberal state in the most liberal region who has done nothing republican let alone conservative.

Shame we have so many idiots on our side which have no clue what they vote for but listen or watch the MSM and think they are being told the truth.

These numbers sure changed abruptly in the last week. My guess is the Michigan and Arizona wins just created the aura of inevitability for the first time. Michigan did turn out to be the last stand in this cycle, and even though from a delegate perspective mitt got nicked up in his birthstate with a draw, the overall vote percentages gave him enough of a win for the right wing and MSM media to both declare him a big victor.

That is Romney strategy .
Conduct a firestorm ad campaign to destroy all the options and hope his 25-30 mods show up and at the same time wipe out the GOP base
Motivation to vote and drive down primary voting overall .
The creep is pure evil and has destroyed the GOP in the process which he hates anyways .
His Charlie Crist managers are too stupid to realize that mittens action will keep the GOP base home in November .
Romney has killed the GOP with his reckless destructive negative campaign .
Outside of Mormons no one else will work for this evil creep .

That is Romney strategy

His strategy is to ramp up the "inevitability" of him winning shortly before a primary to drive down the number of people who go to the polls.

Let's see if it works in OH or not.

The biggest problem we have, is lazy voters, who are ignorant by personal choice. They get all of their information about political candidates from their coffee break pals, the MSM, and from what they read in the first paragraph, in News Papers and magazine clips.

They also vote by how the candidate dresses, sounds and looks

With all the huge swings in these polls, it's evident that voters aren't truly committed to anyone.

What strikes me is how the media and one certain (flush with cash) campaign are able to manipulate the vote.

As for this specific poll, I've watched in the recent past how the very definition of Conservatism has been altered (which would also alter these poll results). It's really funny to hear Gov. Romney explain that the implementation of an Individual Mandate is a Conservative position.

Even when he tries to look informal, he looks formal. Always a dress shirt, or a suit jacket when he wears a pair of jeans. He even makes stiff Al Gore look relaxed.

Romney runs against Barry Soreto and loses 40 or more states.
Mark it down.

We always have the option to pick up our ball and leave the GOP and go third-party in the fall.

Upside is that Mitt will come in a distant 3rd. and the GOP will go the way of the Whigs.

Downside is it will getcha 4 more years of Barry on a 42% plurality.

But after watching this debacle, I could honestly go either way.
