We Petition the Obama Administration to: Call For The FCC To Remove Bill Maher

Bill Maher's derogatory statements have gone far enough and nobody is holding him accountable.

He called former Governor of Alaska Sarah Palin a C*** and there was not a peep from the mainstream media. There was no apology from HBO.

If those who oppose Rush Limbaugh are going to make a petition to pull him off the air for one derogatory thing he said. It only makes sense that we actually pull people off the air who add nothing to the national dialogue but derogatory and inflammatory language.

No one will disagree that Bill Maher is a scurrilous, liberal sc*mbag, who deserves to be censured for whole host of reasons. No one has to be reminded of his blackened left-wing, liberal soul, his infamous comments about the bravery of the 9/11 hijackers and his subsequent firing from his nightly show on ABC years back.

But as for any petition to pulling anyone off the air be it Rush Limbaugh or Bill Maher it really never involves a First Amendment issue. Whether or not Rush Limbaugh or Bill Maher continue to remain on the air is strictly a business decision, one born out of executive privilege, one in which the First Amendment has no power to enforce.

Not only that but I think there are different standards for cable programs such as HBO and public airwaves transmissions such as AM radio.

yes, do you really want Obama-appointed FCC commissioners having the power to decide what shows get pulled from the airwaves?

...it really never involves a First Amendment issue?

Well, except when you ask a government agency (FCC) to silence someone.

Even though the FCC has no authority to regulate the language on a paid-for channel like HBO.

I've always preferred my simple solution - if something comes on the TV or radio I dislike, I change the channel.

It's the free market in action.

Kudos for this petition.

And I demand that the media ask Obama what he thinks about Bill Maher, as they do the Republican presidential candidates, and WHY doesn’t Obama return the $1 million campaign donation from Bill Maher to his pact?????

There needs to be a more permanent solution. A petition is worthless and ineffective

Maher is a smarmy little punk ... but do we really want to give the FCC the authority to drop the axe on someone like that? Doesn’t sound like a good precedent.

I don’t think the FCC has jurisdiction over cable.

???

He was kicked off of ABC years ago. He works for paid subscription service HBO, which is premiering Game Change BTW. How's this the FCCs business?

We don’t want the government to have this kind of censorship power over ANYBODY. Just don’t watch his show and encourage everybody you know to do the same. What this petition proposes is central planning, aka SOCIALISM/FASCISM. We want the opposite; smaller, more constrained government that stays within the limits outlined in the Constitution.

Good point... Maybe Schultz would have been a better example than Maher. Didn’t schultz proudly call Laura Ingraham a “right-wing slut”?

Maher cannot be yanked off HBO because it is (in theory) not subject to FCC oversight. That's a good thing.

I still believe, though, that he and many of his leftist cohorts should have been silenced in the early phases of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The morale-killing drivel spewed by Maher/Moore/et.al. calling the C-in-C a 'war criminal' and the Iraq operation 'illegal' while our troops were in harm's way did, IMO, emboldened the enemy and directly contributed to a greater number casualties than would otherwise have occurred.

The FCC doesn’t control cable channels like HBO. You’d have to threaten HBO with a boycott if anything.

We conservatives have some difficult choices to make. Signing this petition may be symbolic, but it has no actual affect and everyone knows it. This might as well be Dennis Kucinich and his monthly bill to impeach George Bush.

Here is where things stand:
1) Currently, it appears as though Romney will garner enough delegates tomorrow to capture the nomination. If that actually happens, a lot of us will stay home November because we just can’t bring ourselves to vote for him.
2) The Rush kerfuffal has allowed the left to divert attention from other things and, IMO, it will give them a cause and a reason to go after conservatives, conservatism and talk radio in a way we have never seen before.
3) We know that the left is not concerned about the future of America, only about increasing or adding to their power. To that end, they have reduced education to propaganda, driven God out of the schools and are working on driving God out of America, and are now desperately trying to maintain their hold on our healthcare as well as turning sex into a public sport; starting with the likes of Ms. Fluke!
4) As we watch our country descend into a third world abyss from which it is unlikely we will ever return, is hoping for victory at the ballot box in November or signing pointless petitions REALLY the best we can do? In the late 1950s, Rosa Parks objected to the fact that black Americans were required to occupy the back of the bus and took action. In the 1960s, black Americans objected to being treated like second class citizens and took to the streets as well as becoming Freedom Riders; a cause that led to the death of many of them. Meanwhile, we conservatives sit around assuring ourselves that things will change in November. If Romney ends up as our candidate, we know how November is going to turn out - Obama will get his second term and America will breath its last gasp as a free nation.

So, I ask you - is this the best we can do? Are we so apathetic that we are unwilling or afraid to take the necessary action to regain control of our country?? At best, we can hope to divide America into two countries - one America for conservatives and one America for those whose sole goal in life is to suckle the teat of big government. At worst, we lose our country and our freedom and become Greece or Europe.

WE can choose what tomorrow looks like. But, if tomorrow is going to be bright and shiney, the time for choosing is growing very short. What’s it going to be - fish, or cut bait?

Better to have mass cancellations of HBO service than to pull Maher off the airwaves.
