The 2012 presidential campaign has eight months to go, but former first lady Barbara Bush has already given it a bad review.

“I think it’s been the worst campaign I’ve ever seen in my life,” she said Monday at Southern Methodist University during a daylong conference on the influence of the nation’s first ladies. “I hate that people think compromise is a dirty word. It’s not a dirty word.”

The comment, which drew applause from the audience of about 300, came about midway through an hourlong discussion with daughter-in-law and fellow former first lady Laura Bush.

It was the only reference to the current presidential campaign in a panel devoted to the reminiscences of the wives of former Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush.

In her criticism, Barbara Bush did not single out a particular candidate. She has expressed her support, however, for Republican front-runner Mitt Romney and has recorded robo-calls for him in Vermont and Ohio, which have primaries on Tuesday.

Laura Bush tended to be more diplomatic. When asked about the loss of civility in Washington, she recalled viewing vicious political cartoons aimed at Abraham Lincoln and said, “You see that, and you realize it’s just a part of American politics.”

Palin “stayed home in Alaska” and milt is leading.
So I don’t understand why she’s in such a huff.

“I think it’s been the worst campaign I’ve ever seen in my life,”

It isn't, you old bat. The weak and pathetic race your "Thousand Points of Light" loser husband ran in '92 was the worst campaign ever. How he lost to a draft dodging, womanizing, pot smoking turnip from AR is outrageous. BTW, how did George's compromise on tax increases help in the long run?

At first I was worried her pontificating & supporting Romney would be a big plus for Romney....

...but then I remembered how she dissed Sarah Palin and folks didn't take to that...

..also, this support of hers aligns Romney with Bush and spells....Big Government

Except that RINO’s never compromise in the Right direction.

There can't be any compromise at this point, IMHO. The Leftists are pushing our country into a socialist/European/ united nations 3rd world country. Their ideology never has worked but they think that they are so intelligent they can make it happen. The Left doesn't really want compromise - they want THEIR agenda only and just play at compromise until the right result occurs. No more. The lines have been drawn. The moderates better wake up and realize who they are dealing with. It is compromise and apathy that got us where we are today. It is time to man up and take back from the left what we have so freely given them - our country.

The one thing that Nancy Pelosi said that WASN”T a lie is “It doesn’t matter who we elect” that they are basically the same. In the case of Mitt, she is dead on. That is why I am voting Santorum today (I’m in Ohio). I really like Santorum, but I have to admit that I LOVE Newt. However, a vote for Newt here is a vote for Romney. Newt just isn’t close enough here and I’ll be damned if I let a rino like Mitt take Ohio! I hope the people in the counties where Santorum did not get on the ballot go for Newt. I wouldn’t mind at all if the vote were split between the two.

Bush Sr is the quintessential Country-Club Republican. His wife is the same. They have no clue what’s at stake for the rest of us that live outside the secluded old-money paradise in Kennebunktport, Maine. He is tone-deaf to the travails of regular folks - and I’m being nice - I’m a life-long Republican.

Country-Club Republicans look down their noses at regular folks, but at they are mostly businessmen who provide good jobs. Democrats talk a good game, but shamefully use regular folks and steal wealth from rich & poor alike.

I realize I am painting with a broad brush here, but this is what I see from where I am sitting.

Barb’s right.

I, too, am discouraged by the tone of the discourse and by the quality of the candidates.

A healthy family has to compromise among its members daily in order to stay cohesive and accommodate each other’s needs.

Makes me sick to think the Socialist may get another term just because the good folks of this country can’t work together.

NOOOOO... I am in Wisconsin and I WISH we had an earlier primary. I'm sick to death of everyone else picking our candidate. By the time WE vote - it's always over. In 08 I voted for Fred even if he had dropped out. I did not want to cast a ballot for that Juan McLaim.

This time - PLEASE vote your conscience. Newt is better than little Ricky by a long shot. But Mittens is being shoved at us more and more. The elite RINOs can't stand that we are balking at their choice. So, are we going to let the RINOs and elite GOP dictate to us once again?

Don't let Newt down, please. I do see your point about Mittens winning. If you do vote Ricky - please let EVERYONE know why.

Very frustrating situation, isn't this?

Just got back from voting. According to poll workers the turnout as of 5:30 was rather lite. I think that is a good sign as usually our polling place is innundated with elderly folks. There weren’t any. I see this as a good sign as the elderly broke overwhelmingly for Romney!

I’m trying to stay optomistic. But I did notice the lack of older people (not counting the poll workers). Usually there are a lot of them at our polling place. My husband took a little poll at work and those who voted, voted for Santorum. Just keep your fingers crossed and I will do the same. I’ll even say a little prayer.

At least it was a moral victory for Santorum, he came awfully close. I expect a recount. As in most Mitt elections, there as always some uncounted votes (for his opponent) laying around somewhere.
