Happens on my local FM station every day or two, but I think it's the station engineers’ fault or their computer.

A local AM station was the worst I've known for playing two or even three feeds at once. One time they had the satellites background channel for about five minutes which gave information on frequency and antenna polarization along with a countdown for the news broadcast. But they made up for it by having more dead air than any other station I've heard, so I guess it all averaged out.

If your handle wasn't Karl in Ohio, I'd say you just described WPIT-AM in Pittsburgh to a "t".

From time to time I hear the countdown (woman's voice or computer generated female voice).

Maybe you know this: Almost every day on Schnitt Show during breaks, they play some music that keeps repeating itself over and over. Always the same "song". I say 'song', but it's not like bumper music. Just a couple of chords and then starts over. Sometimes will go on for 3 or 4 minutes. Same thing happens on Bill Cunington's show on Sunday night, once every 2 or 3 weeks. I've thought since the music is short and repetitive that is was used to lock on to a satellite.
