Voters Back Away From Santorum In Ohio

In the days leading to Super Tuesday contests, Rick Santorum stepped away from social issues and bombastic speeches while barnstorming Ohio to recast himself as the underdog whose blue-collar roots would stay true to American values.

Yet the former senator from Pennsylvania lost ground, slipping to a near dead heat with former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney in Ohio, the key state among 10 in which voters will cast ballots today, pollsters said.

"I thought his message has become so unclear on who he is or what he stands for that I am losing confidence on his ability to win the election in November," Dana Kasel, 43, of Perrysburg, Ohio, a Czechoslovakia native who became a U.S. citizen, said of Santorum. "It was his talk about how his grandfather realized the American dream that attracted me."

In a weekend poll of 753 likely GOP primary voters, Romney pulled ahead of Santorum, 34 percent to 31 percent -- a 10-point shift in one week, said Peter A. Brown, assistant director of Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. The survey's 3.6-percentage-point margin of error "makes the Ohio race too close to call, but Romney is the one with the wind at his back," Brown said. (Snip)

" I want to say to the elite of this country—the elite news media, the liberal academic elite, the liberal political elite:

I accuse you in Littleton and I accuse you in Kosovo of being afraid to talk about the mess you have made, and being afraid to take responsibility for things you have done, and instead foisting upon the rest of us pathetic banalities because you don't have the courage to look at the world you have created. Dearest you, Yaelle,

Do you not realize that Santorum is not eleigle for several of the districts, including Dayton and Columbus? He didn't sign-up for those districts and there's more than I named.

Newt Gingrich is eligible for delegates in ALL Ohio districts!

Newt has ccampaigned in Ohio and has spent more money there than his rivals. What's with this two man race stuff?

The media has made it that way!

Yes, Newt is campaigning in other states right now, but he's sure entitled to try for as many votes as he can get!!!!

Oh I share your goals. I just don’t agree on how to achieve them. Your candidate has been slipping for weeks, and you have nobody to blame but yourself. Rick was never going to win Ohio. Wake up. He isn’t even on the ballot places in Ohio, and doesn’t even have a full slate of delegates.

Exactly right! Vote what’s in your heart. The reason we are not solidly defeating Romney right now is because Newt supporters went wobbly and jumped on the Santorum train to nowhere.

My family just got back from voting for Newt here in Tennessee. Took the inlaws with us for 6 votes.

It was an honor and a priviledge to vote for Newt Gingrich.

". . . but the capacity of some to delude themselves about who they see as a political opponent is seemingly bottomless."

I'm glad you're looking in the mirror and seeing the cause of your infatuation. Santorium has a voting record that varies very little from Barry and Romney has RomneyCare. Newt, on the other hand, has a balanced budgets, the first Republican majority in forty years, as well as a long, long, record of voting on the Conservative side of issues.

I realize you and others will dream on, though, it's how we got the piece of dung we now have as President in the first place. People "felt" good about someone rather than looking at their record.

Yes, I heard! I’m so sick of the Bush’s I could scream. They are so out of touch.....! They’re old, God bless them, but RLY.

Romney is the worst.

He’s ruined this entire primary for all of the candidates with his lowlife dirty politics.

Sorry onyx I have to leave this thread I’m so mad. We’ve been warning Santorum supporters for weeks he wasn’t viable. He flops. They call us names. Pathetic!

Even with the entire media world shilling for Romney, and all three of the other candidates attacking Santorum, Newt still doesn’t have a chance.

He’s just handing it to Romney, if Santorum doesn’t make it.
