Investors flee Carbonite after Limbaugh announcement (they dumped him)
TheDC ^ | March 6, 2012 | Jeff Poor

On Saturday, Carbonite CEO David Friend released a statement on his company’s website declaring that Carbonite had decided to “withdraw” advertising from Rush Limbaugh’s radio show in the wake of his controversial remarks involving Georgetown Law student Sandra Fluke because it will “ultimately contribute to a more civilized public discourse”:

Even though Mr. Limbaugh has now issued an apology, we have nonetheless decided to withdraw our advertising from his show. We hope that our action, along with the other advertisers who have already withdrawn their ads, will ultimately contribute to a more civilized public discourse.

However, it hasn’t done much to contribute to his company’s stock price. Since the market opened on Monday through its close today, Carbonite stock (NASDAQ:CARB) has plummeted nearly 12 percent, outpacing the drop of the NASDAQ index in that same time period by nine-and-a-half points. It was also one of the biggest decliners on the NASDAQ on Tuesday.

Well they’ve had other problems since the IPO but if you look at their filings, they admit they spend nearly as much to attract a customer as they earn from them in the first year, so the secret lies in retaining the customer 2, 3, or more years when it all turns to profit. Now what will the leftie CEOs knee-jerk reaction have on their ability to retain customers, one wonders....?

Or to attract new ones, given that 40% of the population identifies as conservative vs. something less than 20% that say they are liberal.

You don’t need to pay a CEO millions of dollars a year to piss off nearly half of your potential customer base...I’ll do it for far less, and do a better job of it ;-)

Carbonite now just projects the image of being a “politically correct”, spineless, milk-toast; rather than a conservative company with a little backbone. You should have stuck with one who tells the truth - no matter how painful. I hope your demise is rapid.

Excellent!! I posted an article yesterday and posted erroneous research that all seven companies were private. Obviously and fortunately, I was wrong! I hope they all sink! There’s no way ProFlowers can survive. There are too many alternatives. Also, I’ve ordered their product twice—only as an implicit statement that I support Rush—and had a bad experience both times. The first time, the flowers were delivered WITHOUT being arranged. Apparently, that’s a given with long-distance orders. This year, I ordered tulips, as were pictured on their site. They sent me a bulb. in a little pot. Happy Valentines Day...here’s a pot, honey!!

I called..they are the same group as SHari’s berries...and even though they were delicious, I will not get them again. I never would have heard of them if they hadn’t been on Rush. Too bad. I told them I vote with my wallet.

I mean, really, they wanted to what, cave to the will of communist, leftist punks who have no understanding of the free market!?!?

That's the point, do these companies want to deal only with people who hate the free market? They don't pay their bills, they are demanding, etc. and these are going to be your core customer base. It's kind of like Alec Baldwin (the face of Capital Bank) going down to the Occupy Group and claiming to support the Occupiers against Evil Banks! Really, Capital Bank are these the customers you want?

I have four external drives on my computer now, and they all have original work on them. That won’t work.

Here's the list of the spineless companies who pulled their advertising from the Limbaugh program. And yes, I have supported some of these with my business... but no more.

Sleep Train
Sleep Number
Legal Zoom
Citrix
Quicken Loans
Carbonite
Pro Flowers

Here’s another:

BACKBLAZE

Isn’t capitalism great? You don’t have to patronize one company if you don’t like their values.

Get an external hard drive. Faster, more reliable and you pay for it only once.

Mozy is a similiar solution which is based on cloud. An external hard drive is an option but you have to remember to put your files on it. An external drive can also fail, which happened to me.

They actually sell something not worth much and can be replaced.
