Utah - The San Juan County Sheriffs Office has launched an investigation into the unlawful closing of a county road on BLM public lands.
At the February 27 meeting of the County Commission, Commissioner Bruce Adams said the county claims the road and directed the county road department to destroy the berm that has been placed in the middle of our road and do whatever is required to make the road passable.
Adams also asked that the road department track all costs on the project, in the event a citation is issued, to determine the restitution that would need to be paid to the county.
The road in question is County Road #0570, located in the Creek Pasture area east of Canyonlands National Park. The road is a San Juan County D road claimed under the Federal RS 2477 Statute.
The San Juan County Sheriffs Office is investigating to see if Utah State statute was violated. Federal BLM investigators have been contacted, and have agreed to open an investigation and assist the Sheriffs office to determine possible violations of NEPA laws

Pinging the Agenda 21 folks!
If you want to be on or off the Agenda 21 ping list, please notify me by Freepmail. It is a relatively low volume list in which we have been exploring the UN Agenda21 and related topics. We have collected our studies with threads, links, and discussions on the Agenda 21 thread which can be found here:
RS 2477 is a simple and straightforward law. : “The right-of-way for the construction of highways across public lands not reserved for public purposes is hereby granted.”
2. Congress specifically and clearly reaffirmed the validity and intent of RS 2477 in 1976. Because RS 2477 became law in 1866, anti-access extremists argue that it is now somehow inconsistent with modern public land management policy. But just 22 years ago, when Congress repealed RS 2477 and replaced it and many other laws with the Federal Land Policy and Management Act, it specifically and explicitly reaffirmed all RS 2477 grants previously made.
Wish I could remember Rocky's screen name so I could ping him! He's been traveling all over the country and I finally lost track of him. Met him at Klamath Falls "Tea Party" event long before the current Tea Party got started. Does anybody remember his FR screen name?
When the feds close roads on public land, irrespective of RS 2477 or county land use plans, more roadless areas are formed, thus more wilderness designation. It is a back door attempt to take more land out of use.
I don’t know where this is, but lest anyone think this is not important, it only takes a couple of road closures in Utah to effectively block a large area of the state off from the public. Utah has several national parks, national monuments, BLM land, native American reservations, and natural geographical boundaries to contend with, including the huge Grand Canyon just to the south of Utah. So if this road is blocked, the next road may be a hundred miles off.
Good for Sheriff Rick Eldredge, the BLM got caught red handed and he’s holding their feet to the fire.
Utah has been in and out of court a dozen times the past twenty years over this, they have lost every case and have spent millions. This will go the same way.
BLM under criminal investigation by San Juan County.
The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office has launched a criminal investigation into whether the Bureau of Land Management illegally closed a county dirt road, the latest dust-up in a long-standing battle over federal-state jurisdiction involving rural Utah roadways.
South of Moab, and you are correct.
BLM investigators. Isn’t that kind of like the fox guarding the hen house?
Thanks for the ping!
Oh thank you. Someone just told me he had been to AK, then went to the other extreme... FL and was now in NV. Did you get acquainted with him at K falls?
Hey Rocky! You still out there in FReeper land???
“Whataya have here? Another Jarbidge, NV situation?? Another Dick Carver situation??? More Sagebrush REBELLION due to the “War on the West????
Wish I could remember Rocky’s screen name so I could ping him! “
Issaquah King. I haven’t heard from him in some time.
I wish the people in Nevada dealing with this well. When my land was taken, there was no one to stand with me, so I stood by the citizens of Jarbidge and Klamath falls when it happened to them.
I don’t get involved in these issues any more. I’ve had a hard lesson or two about helping people who don’t deserve it. Most of the farmers of K Falls have sold out. And Jarbidge? They bitched later that we cost them ‘tourist’ dollars! We got them more business than they had for 10 years! I remember watching films of Jews lining up, climbing on the cattle cars to be taken to their extermination. I asked my Dad, why didn’t they fight! Why did they just submit! Most of the people out ‘west’ are doing the same thing, if they even bother to notice what’s happening.
I lost most of my own family, who are just more ‘do nothings’, over standing up for those people.
And their heads are up the Sierra clubs butt.
The BLM likely gets ‘international permission’, just like Leon Panetta’s defense department.
Hello there AuntB!
It was great meeting you and the others at Klamath. We’ve lost some great patriots since that time.
Jeff is still here. Not sure how many others.
Jeff I thought you’d find this thread of interest.
Good to see you!! Be well, amom.
You too my dear.
