Gingrich must endorse Santorum
http://www.freerepublic.com ^ | 6 March 2012 | impimp

I have advocated Gingrich staying in until sometime in March. I felt the vote splitting would help prevent Romney from locking up a sufficient number of bound delegates to take the nomination. The plan did a good job so far, but not a great job.

I think now the mathematics is shifting such that Gingrich needs to bow out. The reasons for the shift are:

1. winner-take-alls coming up soon - vote splitting begins to really hurt us in these primaries 2. we need money consolidating behind Santorum. 3. Santorum made the Indiana ballot after all

But now Gingrich needs to bow out.

Newt Gingrich gives us Mitt Romney which gives us Barack Obama.

Newt should only drop out if Santorum agrees in writing to make him his running mate. Look how many of you people support Newt. I like him too, but about a year ago 90% of you threw him under the bus for supporting Scuzzzy Fava up in NY.

“What do you mean he cannot win? “

Am I missing something, or is Newt in 3rd place in the Republican Primary?

He cannot win the general when he has been soundly repudiated in the primaries. Newt will be watching the election from the sidelines. Republican voters have spoken. They don’t want Newt.

Newt needs to do something dramatic like say Paul Ryan is his top pick for VP if he’s the nominee. As we see with the results, his solutions and intellect are being ignored. I really don’t get it. I guess you actually have to pay attention to understand why Newt is best and too many people are too busy to care. Look at the past. Bob Dole? Snoozefest! John McCain? Was afraid to fight Obama in the debates. Now we have Santorum. I might agree with Santorum on the social issues, but the country is so morally bankrupt, they’ll be too many “scared” of him as the mainstream media distorts his social positions. Is Santorum really going to debate Obama and win decisively. I just don’t see Santorum winning because he’s not provocative enough. If you want to cut through the media and realy take apart Obama truly educating America once and for all why conservative ideas are better than liberals ideas, why capitalism is better than socialism, you must unleash Newt. It’s that simple. Why so many people don’t see this makes me sick. But if this country was stupid enough to make Obama a President, I can’t expect them to be smart enough to make Newt one. Pretty sad state of affairs.

No. Then I’ll have no one to vote for. I’m NOT into compromise anymore.

Come on, Imp- not gonna happen.

FLASHBACK- JANUARY 31, 2012–

BACKGROUND: NEWT Lost FLA- but still leading nationally: Rick loses in NH, SC, FLA, and soon, nev- . Did he bow out with honor?

No, just the opposite. Instead, of competing with Newt in the arena of ideas, Rick went “romney”- he back-stabbed his mentor and fellow conservative. From FR:

***************

“Rick Santorum’s presidential campaign announced a new television ad that will begin airing Tuesday in Colorado and Nevada.

The ad attacks Newt Gingrich as being too liberal for the GOP nomination by arguing that he shares many policy positions with President Obama and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). “All three supported radical cap and trade legislation that would destroy American jobs and drive up energy costs. All three supported giving illegal aliens some form of amnesty. All three sported the government health mandates which take away our freedom and is the core of ObamaCare. And all three of these politician’s supported the Wall Street bailouts that was a slap in the face to the Tea Party,” the narrator says.

It goes on to refer to the trio as “cap and trade loving, bailout supporting, soft on immigration, big-government mandating politicians.” The commercial is a sharp indictment of Gingrich, with whom Santorum has split more conservative voters in early primary contests.

***************

Rick set the rules on how one deals with fellow conservatives– now he has to play by them. You reap what you sow— Rick understands that.

Nope, not on another site - its just that people want to throw darts at Santorum’s past votes, and ignore what Romeny has done. Maybe I should have said Gingrich instead. Same difference - they are all flawed candidates.

I am really surprised that there are so many FReepers who are supporting Newt vs. Rick Santorum.

This is the same Newt who sat on a couch with Nancy Pelosi and declared that global warming is caused by manmade activities and then he was to come out with a book about his BIG, BOLD IDEAS concerning MAN CAUSED GLOBAL WARMING errrr “Climate Change”. (conveniently you cannot find that book being peddled by old Newt yet...Hmmm, I wonder why?)

Then we find out that he also supports the “individual mandate” or also known as ROMNEYCARE and Version II which we all affectionately call OBAMACARE. So let me get this straight, Newt is on the side of OBAMA and MITTENS, and yet “he is our man” ?????

Now Rick Santorum isn’t perfect, I’ll grant you that. No one is. But I’ll take someone who understands those two basic issues and stands on the side of freedom vs Government Tyranny!

Newt needs to drop out and endorse Rick yesterday. He is done, and all he will do by continuing on is to split the vote and allow Romney to waltz into the nomination. Those calling for a brokered convention are delusional.

What happened to you FRiends? Has FR gone insane?

Here we have the most Conservative Electable candidate possible in Rick and you guys are cheering on a Super-RINO?

So in the primaries we should go with a sweater-vest panty-waist social conservative (a la Huckabee) or a heretic? (If he’s that wrong about the Bible what else is he missing?)

Churchill was a similar anti-choice, but he proved worthy when the test came...

You may be on to something. I am concerned about the 12 amendment to the constitution. Can someone please comment on the 12th amendment and what can be done so that we comply with the constitution AND maximize the probability of winning the VP and the Presidency. We don’t want just one !

Newt might still win Alabama and Mississippi, which would set up a win in winner take all Texas. Whole new game if that happens.

Now, not sure I would predict all of that, but all of that is possible. With all of that possible, he should and will stay in.

Because Santorum cannot win the general election.

If Newt were to drop, that might be helpful to Santorum. Let’s say it gets him nominated..... we win nothing because there is no way that he can win against Obama.

I can’t stand Romney, but even if he wins the nomination, we still lose to Obama. If I am wrong and either of those two beat Obama, we still lose because they are not up for the job.

At this point, it’s Newt or a convention for me. LOL... but even then, anything could happen.

Unlike you, I could not vote for Santorum.

A crazy year for sure, but I do not want Newt to give up.

Thank you. These are all things I played over in my mind when I went to vote today. I saw Newt sitting with Pelosi on that couch, and it irked me to no end. So, I ended up voting for Rick -

I have done enough research on Rick. He like Mitt would do nothing to slay big government. Neither one would turn our Republic towards Liberty.

I will not support Rick. The only possible way I see to defeat Obama is if Newt wins. Mitt and Rick would only delay the inevitable.

It would be funny to watch Rick and Myth get slaughtered. Between the three Statists (rick, mitt and obama) the one honest enough to run in the Statist party will win.
